  1. I enjoyed the pictures and scenery but hate that it wasn't a great trip. A friend and I were fishing the Yellowstone area several years ago and stopped a conservation truck to see if they knew any good spots that were accessible that held fish. Gal told us the directions and we pulled into the parking area only to see a sign saying this section was closed due to bear activity. I figured I could outrun my buddy.
  2. It was only the second time for us this year at Roaring. I always like the campground area at Montauk as it seemed more natural too.
  3. They have a neon looking sign directly behind the counter where you buy tags. Little brother was talking to a campground host at Montauk that told him they were only stocking 1.5 fish per person. That may or may not be accurate. Probably load it up for the Labor Day weekend crowd. The boys made it more difficult at Bennett in zone 1 after dredging zone 1 .
  4. Lady selling tags told me "there's a lot of fish in the stream. I'd politely told her no, I've been coming here 50 years and this is the fewest fish we've ever seen. There were more fish by the big bridge going to the fly zone and the campground areas. I didn't make it to the fly zone so it may have some carryover fish from recent stockings. You are correct on the lack of size in their fish. 100 fish 2 days in a row won't allow for much carryover.
  5. Susie and I had a short getaway trip to Roaring River this week. Checked the stream Monday evening and the water was a little off but a good color for fishing. Got a late start Tuesday and noticed that the crowds weren't bad. We didn't see a lot of fish and the fishing itself was slower than I'd ever seen. No problem, we would check out the C&R. The last flood had moved a lot of gravel and their were stretches of water 100-200 yards long where the water was a foot deep. We did catch enough fish to make it interesting and lost a fish in the campground section in the 5-6# range. As we headed to the car that afternoon, the topic of low fish numbers was addressed. One gentleman told Susie that the board showed releasing a total of 100 fish. I thought that was a little hard to believe until I went to the park store to get our tags for Wednesday and saw the same totals for fish released . I wouldn't have bought a tag other than its a 5 hour drive from home and we were already there. Younger brother was seeing the same low numbers of fish at Montauk . Looks like a Michigan salmon trip might be on the lineup now.
  6. Guess I should have asked Rick to bring his ball glove and we could've played catch if the fishing slowed down!
  7. And the column on the side has a Ricci Osborn on the "Banker's Babe Ruth team?
  8. Mighty serious look on his face after catching that nice fish!
  9. Yes, but it's usually me giving Susie that look!
  10. Pat has that look of " it's time to go home Marty".
  11. Heard you had a bonafide ringer coming in to fish with, Mrs. Laker.
  12. the "X' factor-but don't tell fshnDoug.
  13. Great colors!
  14. Dad was playing ball in the old Pacific Coast League towards the end of his career and had an off date one day after a night game. Some of the players including Lou Pinella were on board for the trip so they began drinking beer. Evidently the amount they consumed was a little on the too much side. They ate saltine crackers and spent a good portion of their time hanging their heads over the side of the boat.
  15. I'd have to have a phone app or depend on a guide just to figure out some of the fish you were catching. Guess part of your pre-planning included studying the fish in that water.
  16. Needed the "Mission Impossible" theme in the background while Ham was hustling thru the airport.
  17. Went back to tying beetles and hoppers a couple years ago. Almost forgot how much fun it is to fish with them. Nice fish.
  18. Campground looked to be about 3/4 full but the stream wasn't overly crowded especially once it got past the lunch hour.
  19. Susie and I took a half day trip to Montauk after hearing older brother say he saw a few brown trout in the park. We did the usual of getting to the park around 09:30 and got in the water around 10:00. Over the years, warmer temps and lower water levels seemed to push the browns closer to cold water in the campground. We started off just below the bridge leading to the campground and immediately started seeing fish. As we worked our way downstream, Susie said "hey there's one here that'll will go 5#. She offered the first shot to me and while I had a couple follows and one strike, I didn't connect on it. As we continued downstream we saw browns in the 12-18" class throughout the park. I did catch an 17.5-18" brown on the old reliable red fox squirrel nymph for my best catch of the day. We did catch some good 15-16" rainbows. Figured we saw at least 25 brown trout and caught 10 between us. Susie was using one of Laker 67 favorite patterns and I used the RFSN to catch most of the browns. We quit the last section above the "Electric Hole" and called it a good day.
  20. Nice video-like the way you posted the materials used on the screen as you were tying.
  21. That's about as good as it gets when you're catching fish with your best friend. Way to go Marty and Pat!
  22. Bluegills with some shoulders!
  23. Awesome all the way!
  24. Looks like a nice morning workout- catching some good fish!
