  1. And kudos to you for helping out!
  2. Saw a guy years ago fishing Maramec Springs with minnow and he had a limit of trout and goggle eye. Mad for a nice mess of fish.
  3. A size #10 tan hopper worked this morning for Susie and I on little brother's pond. Think we totaled 55-60 bluegill and 5 bass before it started getting hot.
  4. Great tribute to Rick-putting one of his fly rods to use and catching fish.
  5. Nice looking fish and the water looks good too!
  6. Those will work.
  7. Memorial services for Rick Osborn with full military honors will be held on Tuesday ,May 31, at 1:00pm at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery, 5201 Southwood Road, Springfield, Missouri. You can read his obituary on the Hedges-Scott Funeral Homes website online.
  8. Wonder if rps bought the Redington or not?
  9. The same guy who broke the two Redington rods was also the same guy using the bad language!
  10. And possibly a video camera -we used to video some of the mayhem involved in our salmon trips up North but one in our group used too much foul language.
  11. Redington at one time had a really good warranty on their fly rods. Buddy broke 2 in Wisconsin and they had a lifetime no questions asked policy. That was years ago and it looks like the Crosswater has a one year warranty. Little brother has a Redington Behemoth that has a monster drag(more than he needs) but somehow broke the reel handle off. I'm thinking he or his wife stepped on it. He hasn't had much success getting the folks at Redington to see if it's repairable or not. Another buddy uses the Redington Crosswater in a 7'6" 4 wt. and loves it for fishing smaller trout park fish. Good buddy Laker 67 who recently passed would often use a $50 Dog wood Canyon in the park sight fishing! I'm like Ham, get it in your hands and give it a shot.
  12. I didn't weigh the rod but it was a 4 piece and was advertised at 3.2 ounces which is as light as a lot of 4-6 weight rods.
  13. We used to use 1/2 of a DT fly line on ultralight fly reels as some of the spool capacity wouldn't accommodate an 80 feet fly line and any amount of backing. That plus a lot of the fishing in the trout parks didn't require longer casts when we were sight fishing and Susie and I plus 2 kids who fly fished made it less expensive. Might have one DT fly line left on one of the ultralight reels and the rest are all WT.
  14. I look from time to time at Yellowstone Anglers "shootout" just to get a different perspective. They test a bunch of rods and you get 4-5 of their staff evaluating rods, reels, etc. Often a mid to lower price range will test out in their criteria better than some high end rods. I was looking for a lighter 8 wt. rod several years ago and they recommended a TFO "BVK" that was in the $250 range back then ahead of quite a few of the $700 plus rods. Took the rod to Michigan and handled king salmon well enough on the PM.
  15. As several of you members of the Ozark Anglers forum family know, Laker 67 (aka Rick Osborn) has been very ill. It was with much sadness that his wife ,Sandy sent out a group text yesterday informing us that Rick had passed away. Rick was a wonderful family man, husband, friend and fisherman. He was a frequent contributor to posts on this Forum and at one time held the Missouri state record for brown trout at somewhere in the neighborhood of 27# 10 oz. That's quite an achievement considering he caught it on a fly rod. Those of us lucky enough to call him "friend" truly will miss his goodness and generosity. Prayers for Sandy, their sons Kevin and Brad along with their spouses and grandson Quin.
  16. Excellent Marty and Pat. The smiles on everyone there makes it all worthwhile.
  17. Enjoyed the narrative-figured you only needed to throw a snake in the brush to make it more entertaining.
  18. That's a hog!
  19. I'd swear that every time Laker pulled that Sage rod out of the car ,I could hear the background music on "The Rifleman". The music when Lucas McCain is about to drop the hammer on a bad guy.
  20. Good looking fish!
  21. If only the Sage could talk-a wealth of information in the hands of Laker!
  22. Thanks for the offer Marty. He's he same friend whose oldest son died of Covid in late January. His plate is full with a 330 acre cattle farm and one remaining son who has his own farm to take care of. Got his son and another buddy who help me with him we he's in need.
  23. A little hunting on a fishing trip. Makes for a nice day.
  24. One of my wife's favorite places to fish because of the size of the fish and less crowds. It is expensive and not always a challenge unless they haven't stocked for a while. You can C&R for either a full or half day. One of the gang can't walk very good and we can get him in a hole with fish and he can fish until he gets tired , then set in a chair streamside and rest. Will really be a challenge for him tis year as his health problems took its toll and he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.
  25. Doesn't get much better than that. Those are some healthy fish.
