Before drones guys would kayak out and drop their baits. Saw it all the time in Destin. I've seen guys use RC boats on youtube but that was at a dam tail water. He would run his bait right up to the base of the dam and drop it. It was an asian guy on the Mississippi I think.

I don't doubt you "could learn" a lot online but getting hired without the degree certainly isn't possible.
When you say "learn it on your own" do you mean just casual interest or the details to actually "do" the job?
Because if you mean to "do" the job at a professional level there are countless in the civil engineering field alone.
