I've been lucky to hang around some old timer fly guys through the years because of my dad. Lee Wulff tied a Royal Wulff for me when I was a kid while on a trip to Livingston MT with my dad. He tied it in his hands without a vice. I spent 12 days up there fly fishing with my dad, Lee, his wife and Dan Bailey. Those guys were also nice enough to slip me a beer every now and again even though I was underage.

I live in the Burbs and some people a couple subdivisions over had a den under their front porch. I think they like the neighbors lap dogs. I’ve heard the same howling at keg parties. 😆

Oh yeah. Pull into the ramps at sunup and the parking lot has a bunch of cars but no trailers or anyone fishing. One time two women were having a couple beers at 6 AM on the ramp and they asked me if I would take them on a boat ride. They had spin cast rods so I told them no.

Most be a lot of fisherman at the ramps on the Meramec near St Louis....Just sayin.

From what I’ve seen it’s a trend towards DIY outdoors. I see them more and more at boat ramps like bicycler’s at the trail parking lot. The number of cyclist has gone through the roof in the past few years. Now on a nice weekend you’ll have a hard time even getting in the trail Parking lots. 3 years ago it was never a thought. BTW, there is only one boat ramp and a big parking lot. Use the parking lot to load your kayak.

We used to go to the opener every year, wouldn’t miss it. It’s a social deal, I get it. We would get there at 4 - 4:30 in the morning and get on the downstream side of the Mainbridge at Bennett Springs. About 15 minutes before the whistle was going to blow the place was packed and all lined up around that hole under the bridge. Two guys in suits walk down to us and asked if the great governor of Missouri could slide in between us. We all just stared at them then my buddy says, he shoulda got up earlier if he wanted this spot. Everyone burst out laughing and the fine governor slipped in above the bridge. Teasdale I think.
