  1. Harbor freight bulk gel. Dozen at a time.... fwiw, dropping a superglued bait in the water sets up the glue immediately. Just make sure it’s tied on before you toss it over the rail 😁
  2. I was skeptical about the eagle claws. Read several positive reviews figured at $.05 each I’d let my kid use them up. He is a die hard ned fan and frequently gets bit by rocks so economical was a factor for sure. Whatever I set him up with needs to be sticky as he frequently has too much slack. I’ve never poured the matzuo to compare. The version I ordered was the “black pearl” FWIW this was a couple weeks back on the 1/0 sickle hook on the Niangua. It was stuck pretty well in the jaw bone. Used pliers to free it. Between 9 and 10lbs. yrmv for sure
  3. 5313 owner is good. So is the 32746 NPBN Mustad. recently bought the new 500 BP from eagle claw. Sickle type. all 3 work really well. I’m curious to see how the sickle works for jumping fish. They work extremely well for crappie flopping on the surface. Just now getting to surfacing fish to test them out. If they stink, they are still really economical and very sticky. size wise, I’ve poured #2 up to 2/0. Depends on the day and the bait which we use. save your $ on the keepers and 100% super glue. Baits lay better.

    Favorite fish fry

Well, I tried it. I did a sample of mustard a sample of sour cream and the baseline egg wash. All 3 were good. Wife really liked the sour cream. I think a blend of sour cream and a Dijon mustard could be lethal, certainly against cardiologist recommendations or any dietician. suggestions.

Anyone tried mustard on the fish before breading? Heard of it, curious if there is a first hand report. if not, I’ll report when I try it.

    Favorite fish fry

With all the extra cooking at home, frying some fish is on repeat at our house. Last several batches have been a routine saltwater soak then egg and milk bath for a bit before breading in zatarans. friend of mine trued some sour cream (lightly) then breading and swears it was best ever. Mentioned a variation using light mustard then breading. so, lay out your favorites. I’m looking to try a few new ones.
  7. Mill Creek was over full. My son and I launched at sunrise. Appeared there was an impromptu tournament happening. This based off 15-20 guys standing around with boats still on the trailer. All of them ignoring social distancing and group size orders. it’s things like that which will lead to lake or ramp closure. I’m somewhere between disappointment and PO’d. thankfully marina gas shouldn’t be an option for the freshwater plows.
  8. It’s certainly not free may be nothing paid out of pocket in the right scenario
  9. That sucks. Feel for you on all 3 counts. Reducing a work force is gut wrenching. If it’s not, the wrong people are in charge.
  10. The shallow bite at l of o inspired me to shoot a couple “red wart” square bills. I’ll exercise one Sunday. With fish sub 2’ this one should still dig
  11. Bledsoe ferry is at the dam. drakes harbor is just down stream in warsaw
  12. Essential or not, business should not be proceeding “as usual”. Continuing business is fine with mods to help the whole. Anything less is contributing to extension and worsening. Same as spring break.... For the sicknesses running (flu, strep, COVID-19) the social distance thing along with better hygiene is a legit detriment to spreading either. Do it for everyone else.
  13. Spent the morning between Larry gale and hurricane deck. We caught a dozen, none deeper than 2’. Wiggle wart pulled the load. They seemed to like gravel. sorry for the on carpet pic...
  14. Grand from bucksaw to sparrowfoot is great for sure and popular.
  15. Bill, it’s been a minute since I spent a ton of time on Truman. That said, talley bend cuts down a little driving and fits your away from main with creeks criteria. It has a high water ramp with the changing levels. Pretty easy navigation down stream from there compared to tebo or upper grand. All 3 are excellent areas
  16. This is “social distancing” combined with hygiene. Exactly what we’ve been asked to do. It’s really pretty easy. unfortunately waaaay too many don’t. Look at spring break....
  17. Well said. This isn’t a “me” thing. This is about others and the community as a whole.
  18. Looking at what went down in Italy, we should be restricted. “The right thing” is too subjective and often not done by the masses here. Look at the store shelves and fools thinking Chinese food is a cause.
  19. Exercised social distancing at Stockton. Hoped to snag a walleye. Stockton sucks. Drain it and start over.
  20. Any time you can use the same casting across pn’s it saves a ton of $. Often allows same machining fixtures, shared tools and such. At the scale of evinrude, easy to imagine the cash savings being in excess of $1m on a single share starting at the foundry thru inventory.
  21. I’m no boat mechanic.... HP or KW are two ways of measuring power. Nowadays outboard power is typically at the prop shaft. Many power classes share parts, especially as computers control so much. The allowed ratings are expected to be within a percentage of label. For example +/- 10%. some are indeed “stronger” but within a range. Yes, the prop along with the power band and gear ratio of said engine create the feel of more or less “umph”. so, KW and gear ratio are your comparative points combined with operating range.
  22. I guess I don’t understand what the spots hurt without regard to their length in the lakes. Rivers are a different story. TR has some tank spots, not everywhere but there for sure. Stockton has keeper spots, catch several when I take the kids to mess with suspended fish. LM, SM and kentuckies don’t seem to overlap much at size. Little guys integrate more in my experience.
  23. I assume this is about STRIPERS.
  24. I reel lefty.... that said I own a couple of Lew’s and probably 18 of the pro qualifiers. I don’t use the Lew’s. I take a reel out of the box in the store, turn the handle and listen for any noise. If none, I check where the spool is set, loosen to just contact the shaft and give it a spin. If it spins for a 5 count, it’s a keeper. (The high end shimano spins a little longer fwiw). For the LH reels I’d say 4 of 5 pass the test. Neither of my Lew’s will cast as far as easily as the pro qualifiers. Never mind the $ difference
