  1. I worked with a Mexican carpenter for a while that said his family could eat a whole cow in two weeks. That'd be about six deer a week. fwiw, I won't eat deer that was done by a processor, most don't do a full job of it and cut a deer like a cow. Game has to be treated with more care than barn yard animals. I can recommend deer, cottontail, beaver, muskrat, quail, pheasant, dove, grouse, partridge, skunk, woodchuck, raccoon, duck and goose; but I wouldn't eat them if prepped by a commercial processor either.
  2. You ever been in a bass pro or cabelas ? or any of ten dozen (thousand) restaurant that have dead heads hanging on the walls? Search the net for whitetail mounts, some over 3 grand.
  3. Had several kids to help eat it and a whole deer ain't that much after silver skinning, boning and taking out all the sinew and such, they dress out with less meat according to live weight than any animal I've butchered, and these huckleberry and acorn eaters don't get as big as corn fed. I only serve deer two ways steak and stew, but a few "I don't like deer meat" folks have changed their tune after eating mine.
  4. I found it interesting that both items are released the same day. yeah, not sure how you go about revoking or suspending a poacher either, it's like saying "it's against the law for you to break the again" ..
  5. You must know the guy! ^^ changed that big laugh on my last post ^^^ to a lovin heart, eh
  6. I've killed three does in one day before and took the whole night to bone and cut, and about three months til it was all eaten.
  7. I heard that Andy just got "Game Warden of the Year"
  8. Yes they were risking big so they had to be getting big bucks- I don't think it was $40+/lb for dog chews. But the multi year thing and the number of people involved makes me think of taxidermy, shoulder mounts can sell for hundreds or thousands. Just speculation on my part tho. If taking the antler for the China or dog market they would not "cut off the heads" and transport that mess, they would scalp them with an ax and get out. Under age is a possibility. 14 people charged with 230 charges, it's possible they are just naming the ones currently in court.
  9. This was on Missouri Whitetails by a guy that said he drew unit five.
  10. Only thing I know about it is the OP.
  11. current antler prices August 2018 Whitetail Grade A - $10 a pound* Whitetail Grade A- $11.50 a pound* Whitetail Grade B -$6 a pound* Whitetail Grade B- $6 a pound* Whitetail Grade C - $2 a pound* Whitetail Grade C- $2 a pound* Since they were targeting just trophy bucks and hauling into Canada, I suspect a taxidermy gig. One big market is in Chinese medicine. The lesser quality go into dog chews at $20 for a 6" piece, check Amazon. I know a guy from Ne. that buys antler in 6-10 states every year, He has told me they run about $6/lb average tailgate price.
  12. How many hunters to kill 199427 deer? Did it take 4.4 hunters per deer? 3x75=225 permits & 17 deer makes 13.2 tags per deer, how does that compare statewide? fishinwrench & NoLuck, the OP said 3 antlerless deer each- how do you get big racks from antlerless deer?
  13. Do hellgrammites normally get that big or is there another reason for the size? I think the largest hellgrammite I've ever seen was in the 3" bracket, but they have never been a part of my fishing either.
  14. Looking good. It's been 20 years +/- since we even had a hatch, 2-3 cold wet hatch cycles will eliminate the need to hunt them. Can't recall how long ago it was that I had birds like that.
  15. Residing in the RV? Did you find that lot you were looking for on the White?
  16. Yeppers I read it wrong. Twice actually.
  17. You just confused me. Why if it casts great, would only use it for leader? got it
  18. On the top right corner of this page- click your user name; then in the drop down click "Account Settings"- then in the next display, on the right under "Other Settings" click on "Notification Settings"- this opens a page where you can chose when and how to be notified (the right hand column is for Email) - after checking/unchecking all items click the "Save" button on the bottom and you should be good to go. disclaimer; I'm not a real computer mechanic and if this doesn't work, you get no refunds - but, similar tactics worked for me.
  19. It is an awesome deer, I would have passed on it also, although perhaps for different reasons. It's essentially catch and release hunting. People turn perfectly good fish loose for many reasons; the same things can apply to hunting. A matter of tastes after all.

    Beef tongue

60 years ago Momma fed us tongue, ox tail and brisket because they were cheap cuts and she made them taste wonderful, recent years I've thought of doing some of those things and am astonished at the prices, if they are even displayed for sale.
  21. I disagree, a crock pot can show the potential just as well as fry pan. But to use your tame deer example, do you know of a breeder that removes all his big antlered bucks from his breeding program? Carry on with that thought a bit farther, of course the doe contributes to the gene pool but only what she got from her parents. I laugh at buck hunters, but different strokes and etc. Antler stew!

    Beef tongue

It's boneless, that always costs extra.
  23. Mo. does a great job with deer but they should sell more tags and cheaper tags, deer here can't grow to farm land sizes simply because they are overstocked for the habitat. Witness any highway. As to the buck, it's OK but I'd have taken the big doe and ate her. Kill off the good bucks and kill off a big portion of the gene pool, leaving that one is a good; leaving the one sided or big deer-little rack type maybe not so good. I can picture a herd of all two pointers resulting from the point count hunts.
  24. yeah but you ain't running up and down the roads, so you have more time available for accidents than most.
  25. Do you suppose that might be in case the plane had to land elsewhere for some weather or emergency? 52% in the home where only 20% of time is spent and 1/2 of that we are asleep?
