yeah, that guy made it clear that we were legally only allowed access on the stream by boat or by his permission, he tried to convince me that we can not legally wade or fish from the bank at all without his permission. Or the park's. Except on the part MDC owns. I didn't argue it, just left. One of the reasons I quit going up there years ago was the guy in the big house on the hill, l think he owned the pond and the mill at one time.

Our house guests went home early, so I might be there. When I fished there 15-20 years ago it never seemed any more windy than other places in this area. when I was up there last year I found no fish and found that they expect payment for park use which I understand includes the stream. I've been meaning to ask MDC about that. That creek is totally different after some floods, or maybe as a result of the new bridge .

I fished ponds in RI like that for ~15 years, that the lilies never seemed to get thicker or spread. That may a climate thing or species of pad thing or it could have been that the acid rain kept them in check. Since that time housing and development choked some of those streams dry or filled them with grass. I would cast onto the pad rather than the openings. Anything that shook the pad then fell off the edge would take large mouth and any bait fish type lure retrieved parallel to the edge would take bass and chain pickerel. In those ponds the crappie seemed to always be in the open water. Repeated wading through a patch seemed to keep a path open.

shouldn't that be 4mm? on my scale here 9mm looks like #16

Help With Fish Identification
tjm replied to yaknar's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I think maybe hope the cold will prevent tilapia from becoming carp like invasives but still sucks what pet owners will turn loose. Carp have been such a success that they come to mind any time I think invasive. -

Bifocals.

Not me. Not lost any over Texas or what the fishing regulations are in Eastern Europe either. I'm only slightly concerned about the bow fishing limits allowed in Honduras.

Bad weekend for me, would like to be there and let you show me how it's done.

It's not even fishing to take fish that are nesting, they will pick any thing that falls in the nest. I don't think it's possible to educate that out of them.
-
Far as I know TPWD has never done anything to improve my hunting or fishing, I owe them nothing. They'd be well off just to stay in Texas, land of non-native fish. Is there any water left in Texas that has native game fish?

I'm pretty sure the CA near me had been antlered deer only during firearms season for a few/several years. I don't hunt there so it is just 'I think I saw that notice' running through my head. One of the drawbacks of that sales tax is that it gives all the city/non-hunters/non-fishing people equal input to wildlife management. Bambi lovers pay those taxes. Bird watchers would rather we didn't hunt public land at all, like the wild undeveloped state parks land is managed. I'm told that horse backers and bird watchers are the primary users of the CA near me. I've never met an agent that was a biologist. All the enforcement types we get are cops. Don't think many of them hunt or fish either. Most of the time when you call an MDC office you talk to a phone receptionist that has no training in either wildlife, forestry or enforcement- They have stacks of information and know how to find things on the computer to answer general question. But if you want to talk to a knowledgeable person you will need to have a name of a biologist or forester and ask to speak to that named person. sorta like if you call the Ford dealership you don't talk to the design engineer or the CEO of Ford Motor Co. MDC has many more hourly labor types working than they have scientists or cops. The best/fastest way I have found to get accurate info on something that is unclear is to use the "contact us" email on the website' the question will be routed to the person in Jeff city that has real answers and usually takes one day- big deal here is I can print that answer off and carry it with me, it is official.

Beautiful trophy size fish.

Why would you want the chest to fit tight? I want my coat or vest inside the waders to keep it dry and make it easier to drop the waders. A few of the waders I tied on had no chest room and I don't understand that.
-
Definitely. Any shoe or boot has to be tried on. Even from the same manufacturer there will be different fits. I picked up a pair of Hodgeman Mackenzie at the Rogers Walmart about this time last year for ~$40. Nylon/PVC & cleated boots. I got these. only for winter bass wading and have only used them 20 times or so and so far so good- no insulation and to me the body is a snug fit and the legs are too long, but all the other brands are that way to some extent also. The brand Academy sells wouldn't let my high instep go through the ankle even when the boot was three sizes too big. I had that same problem with one at Cabela's also.

Do you mean to say this isn't the main website? Do ya got a link to the main, I want to see what I'm missing?

Three in Mo and one each in Ar and Ok. =5 (oh and just occasionally pop into Joplin that would count as six counties, I guess-just barely. since it's on the county line)

4 miles between park and lake, private land, is open to keep or release year round, not much access and as far as I know not really stocked. I used to fish a portion of that, but have been told recently that there is landowner resistance. It's like that part of Capp's Creek that isn't public-except I think they may still stock that. Bass are close to home and I need to work on Hickory Creek more, or get out of my five county area and see Crane again.

Smallmouth are there when it's dark, park closes, I'm more apt to stop half mile from home in winter months and do the hour drive to the park in the long summer days. It's all good though. I just wonder why the weekdays aren't open, C&R is C&R. It's a rare weekend that She hasn't got me scheduled.
-
Monday thru Thursday has always been good for crowd avoidance in the parks and on the rivers and I sorta have trouble thinking about fishing on weekends. I don't find weekday park users to be a problem as a rule, but I only use RRSP, other Parks may be different. I'll bet there are about as many there Saturday as on most summer Wednesdays.

Thousands and thousands, all sizes; do it monthly; when the average daily catch is in the dozens and fish average less than a pound it will be about as good as you can get. At that point you can tell they are running out of forage is why they are small. Derbys can just go by count to chose winner. Or you can stock just a few tagged fish and combine all the derbies with only the takers of a tagged fish the winner. No weigh in needed.
