Heading down tonight for a quick trip
Ryan Miloshewski replied to JestersHK's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
If you can't get your hands on the Ozark Trout Runners SS jerkbaits, McSticks, Megabass, and Provokes work well. Not much success on Cutters or RC STKs but I'm sure they'd work. -

Went down to Taney last Friday to do an afternoon of fishing and it was the first tip I've had in a while that was lights out. I think a fairly consistent generation pattern has a ton to do with it. Went with my friend Lauren Plunkett, who had never fished Taney before, and she landed a couple of 18 and 19-inch rainbows--her biggest trout ever. That was pretty neat! Went out of Lilley's around 2pm and fished until 6pm or so, with an hour delay due to a thunderstorm. Fishing was great before and after. We solely fished the Signature Series jerkbaits from the cable through the Narrows. Casting the 110+1 in french pearl and dragging the 606 in ghost shad was the ticket. Our best spot was Lookout to the top of the Narrows. I landed a 19-inch football brown by the tennis courts, and most of our fish came in that area. The Narrows was a bit slow, surprisingly. On our last drift we went clear down to River Point. Right in front of the dock in the middle of the lake near the seam I had a big fish hit. I felt two head shakes and said "oh, man!" I had caught three rocks (yes, three) prior and thought they were big fish. Don't knock it..they feel like giants! Lauren said "another rock?" Right then my drag SCREAMED. That fish took off and straight up ripped 100 feet of line from my reel. She yelled "oh s*^! not a rock!" and grabbed the net. Before I could switch to start back reeling the fish the line broke. I've caught a couple 10-pound trout before, and this felt way bigger than any of those. It was a sour way to end the day. I wish I would have at least seen the thing. But still a great day on Taney. We caught one fish under 17-inches in four hours.

Hey all! I am getting bored having to work and being stuck at home so I am starting a new series I've dubbed "Six Packs and Flies." The basic premise is I will have two guests a month to tie one of their signature flies, discuss fishing topics and how-to info. All while enjoying some adult beverages. I like an array of beers so I will be showcasing those a bit for those interested. Anyway, the link to the meeting this evening is below. Starting around 5:30 pm. Just going to introduce the series, tie a couple easy flies, and enjoy a couple cold ones. Will be doing it a couple times a month on Zoom. Would love to see some folks stop by, and join as guest tiers! Topic: Six Packs and Flies Time: Jun 25, 2020 05:30 PM Central Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting https://us04web.zoom.us/j/78555768227?pwd=OXVFSCtQUGhWYnlWUm1UbXZtb1dDZz09 Meeting ID: 785 5576 8227 Password: Milo

Told you those work! Lol. Congrats, Tyler.

Peach mega worm has been really good lately, too. Tried pink, chartreuse, light pink, and red. Only ones they wanted were white and peach.

My buddy's pond is full of bass and crappie. Need to take out hundreds each year to keep it healthy. I took out a small amount yesterday and decided to grill the bass ala Hank Shaw. Holy hell were they good! Salted the piss out of them and coated with neutral oil. Amazing.

That is a trout..misplaced as it may be lol

Smallies on the Fly Rod

He has FB and Instagram. Here is his email: osasmallmouth@gmail.com. He is actually getting a drift boat next week. We did kayaks, but he's only doing that until he gets his boat. Which will be a game changer. -

Yup. He guides on many of the Ozark streams/rivers with smallmouth. Used to guide for trout on Taney and in Alaska for 10 years. Good dude. Knows his stuff. -
Very Roman Empire-esque stuff going on in the Ol' US of A lately.

Smallies on the Fly Rod

Man if that isn't the truth! I am fully addicted now. The thump and fight is just adrenaline-filled madness. Better than any drug! And yea man, I had two take my fly that were absolute tanks. Couldn't believe it. Probably a little bit of panic led to them not being caught hah! -
Catching an Ozark smallmouth on a fly rod has been a goal of mine for a while. I went with Ryan Walker of Ozarks Smallmouth Alliance yesterday morning and boy was it fun. We caught a lot of fish and they were all healthy fighting machines. I landed two at 16-inches, and lost two that were probably 18-20-inches. The fact they get so big in the small Ozark streams is amazing to me. If you want to catch them on the fly, hit up Ryan Walker. He is the real deal. He ties all of his flies, a lot of which are his brainchildren, and just knows how to do it.

I've been a nomad since COVID hit and I've spent the 12 of 16 days in Branson...it's dangerous. Luckily still can work lol

Right after he texted me saying he wasn't catching he sent me these pics haha. Amazing how it can turn quickly. Great job, Tyler!

I will be heading back down tonight or tomorrow morning I believe. We should meet up and do some fishing if you're inclined

Fished for a week on Taney May 27-June 3rd and did great. Midges, scuds, egg flies, jerkbaits and the like worked well. But I know Chuck Gries well and hung around his fly shop for hours each day. Met two guys who wanted to night fish. Told them to meet me at Outlet One at 8:30 pm. They showed. We fished, drank beer, and chatted. Turns out one guy was one of the first Navy SEALs ever and the other trains other countries on underwater mine demolition. Super cool guys. The trainer has top government clearance and didn't give me any information on aliens, sadly. Just the magic of the great lake. Would not have fished with those guys ever if I wasn't around. We exchanged numbers and now they want to get together whenever they are in town. Both live on the east coast. I've met some of the best people of my life via the outdoors, and this one doesn't disappoint! Oh, and they both caught two 20-inchers at night. They're hooked!

Nice to meet you Tyler! We will have to meet up again. Gates are off and fishing is really good today between work meetings. We did ok last night..couple of solid 18-19" rainbows. No walleye..

Treat it like Table Rock or any other bass lake. As you get near Powersite there is a big weed bed on the south side of the lake. Hit it with frogs and jigs. Hit the docks with a spook or anything you'd normally pitch to a dock. There are some giant largemouth to be caught. Crappie--wouldn't waste your time unless you find a school.

I just think it's hilarious he wrote the check for $.69
