I was kayak fishing today from about 330pm until 7pm. It was pretty windy and so I fished up the northern end away from the main lake. The water temp was in the upper 50's. 57 and higher is what I saw on my graph. I threw a spinnerbait, Wiggle Wart, Rock Crawler, and Little John MD. I also tried a Vission 110+ jerkbait. I ended up catching 9 fish. Only one keeper...but it was a good one! I caught all the fish on the spinnerbait and Little John crankbait.

I launched from Bolivar Landing...I worked the flat across from the boat launch where the hazard bouys are...then ran up the lake to find some cleaner water. I was in the water at about 230pm and off by 6pm. I fished flats, runout points and some transition banks. I threw jerkbaits, crankbaits, and chatterbait. I could not get bit. Cranking was a bit tough due to all the moss. I had to target further out from Bank so I wouldn't get "slimed" with every cast. I did manage to catch two white bass...one was tiny but the other was decent...just over 1lb. I should have spent more time on the flats targeting white bass...at least then, I probably would have put a few more in the boat. Caught them crankin'.

So I was out Saturday and Sunday morning. I pulled up Saturday just as it stopped raining. It was about 715am or so. As I was launching, I saw several waves of bass boats go by....I had forgotten about the BFL tourney. I started out the morning fishing on gravel runout points in an arm off the main lake. I was throwing red craw Rock Crawler, red craw squarebill, a chatterbait, and a jerkbait. I even tossed out a topwater spook a bit. I got bit on the squarebill in about 6-8ft of water by a good size smallie. I continued fishing the secondary points and ended up landing a spot before calling it a day. I only fished until about 1045am. Sunday morning, I was on the water by 645am and made it to Long Creek before it got swamped with BFL contestants. The bite started early. I caught my first fish after about 30 minutes. I again focused on points. The jerkbait bite was working for me and I was throwing a Megabas Vision 110+. I also caught some on red craw Rock Crawler. After hitting a 90-120 minute stretch without a bite...I decided to head it in. I don't think there were many spots back in Long Creek arm that had not already been fished multiple times before I could get to them. It seemed quite a few guys from BFL and several locals were back in that area where I was fishing.I ended up with 6 in the boat and 2 keepers...off the lake by 11:15am.

I am so glad he is doing well! Thanks be to God. I met Robert one day when I was at Lake Springfield getting ready to go kayak fishing. We talked for quite a while about fishing. He was very nice and I enjoyed talking with him. We always waved to one another after that as well. I was shocked when I learned he had been shot.

You use it to eat soup.

I fished Grand Lake last Saturday. I launched from Twin Bridges (north end). That was my first time on the lake. I won't launch from there again...water was muddy and a lot of debris and stickups.. I caught one largemouth across from Elk River arm. We were throwing crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Water temp was in mid to upper 40's. Saw low 50's later in the day. I would say that Elk River area would be as far north as I would put in....I intend to go again and launch further south near Grove, OK. Water should be clearer down there...should be a better bite with these temps. I didn't see any bass fishermen until we had gotten to that Elk River arm area. There were 3 tournaments on the lake that day.

I launched from State Park boat ramp and started off on a main lake point and pocket. I caught my fist bass that morning on a bone spook. I had a follower with that catch that was probably twice the size of the one I had hooked! I didn't get any other bites on the spook and so after working that bait and a Rock Crawler, I focused on using medium diving and deep diving, low profile crankbaits. I tried a couple of main lake points and a secondary point off the main lake...I then decided to head to Long Creek. That is when I started having some success. I focused on the usual...secondary points, pockets, and transition banks. I found the most success on gravel rock, runout secondary points. I caught 5 on one such point. I ended up with 15 in the boat. A couple of "football" spots, one brownie, and a few largemouth. My biggest was about 3.6lbs. I ended up throwing the rock crawler most of the time as it was producing. Water Temps started about 44-45 and wer up around 50-51 late in the afternoon. It was windy...not sure but I would guess 10-15mph with occasional stronger gusts. Here are a few of the better fish.

I fished Lake Springfield from about 2pm until about 4pm this past Saturday. Water temp was low 40's. There was a steady light wind with some gusts. I tried flat sided medium diving crankbait, spinnerbait, and deep diving crank bait (rock crawler). I caught one on the medium diver and one on the deep diver. I was targeting 4-16ft of water. I fished the southern of the lake along the western shoreline and then up the eastern shoreline.

Southwood ramp
Bassin4fun replied to aarchdale@coresleep.com's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I was out there on Tuesday. I opted to launch back near the boathouse due to the current at Southwoods. The ramp is already in bad shape with big washout gullies. I am assuming from the storms we had last weekend. A few more big storms and there won't be a ramp there. -
I was out on the lake by about 10am yesterday morning and fished until 4pm. I caught 5 fish and lost two hooked fish. I also missed a fish on the jerkbait. There was a steady light wind with heavier gusts. WT was 41 when I got out there, if I recall correctly but was up to 45 by the time I came off. I fished along a flat and then some main lake points. I did not have much success on the main lake apart from the missed jerkbait bite. When I went back into some pockets is where I found baitfish and started catching some. I tried A-rig, jerkbait, spinnerbait, jig, Rock Crawler, and Wiggle Wart. I caught the fish on secondary points and in the back of the pockets. Water depth was literally right up on the bank out to maybe 10 ft of water. I need up catching fish on the jerkbait and Rock Crawler.

Went to launch at State Park Ramp yesterday and the Ramp was closed. Not sure why...maybe ice. I went on to Diamond City to fish Bull Shoals instead.

Lake Springfield giants

I launch from the boathouse area. I typically run a couple of areas....from dam up to railroad bridge. I run different baits/patterns. Mostly, I focus on the grass beds and laydowns. I may start trying some patterns in deeper water to target fish that arent holding structure I can see. Will take some time to figure out. I have been catching them on a wide range of baits though...buzz baits, crankbaits, topwater walking baits, jigs, worms, and spinnerbaits. Depends on weather and water clarity and time of day. Been fishing Lake Springfield quite a bit...only 10 minutes from my house. Will hit Table Rock tomorrow and Pomme de Terre Sunday and Monday. I caught 5 bass this morning on Lake Springfield with one that measured 19.25". One was 15" and the others were smaller. -
I am consistently catching some quality fish at Lake Springfield. You can definitely catch numbers out there and there seem to be plenty in the 2-4lb range too. Some of these likely went 5lbs...maybe more. I have also caught several small spotted bass.
-
I caught my first white bass last weekend on Pomme de Terre using a crankbait. I was fishing for largemouths. I ended up catching three whites that day, a drum, and 7 or 8 largemouth. It was windy and I was in a kayak.

Tackle Warehouse Circuit. 7 graphs on some of these boats.

Yeah, there are so many options and it is tough to make the call. You start out with a game plan but you may have to switch strategies based on what is happening at that moment in time. But you need confidence in your knowledge and abilities. I made the mistake of listening to someone else right before an event and scrapped my whole gameplan. Never doing that again. -
Springfield Lake Monster
Bassin4fun replied to Bassin4fun's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
A wacky rigged worm. I usually catch them on the wacky worm, topwater walking bait, or spinnerbait. I have not had any bites on any type of crankbait. I have had them slap a topwater frog too in the mornings. -
Springfield Lake Monster

I caught this monster yesterday afternoon kayak fishing. Felt like I was reeling in the whole weed bed...lol. He tried to get me hung up in some. I was able to pull him through. I thought I was hung until he started pulling back. Almost 5lbs. I caught 9 bass from 1030am until almost 3pm. They were all up towards dam around structure. I caught most of them feeding on shad...I would just cast over where the activity was and was getting bit. -
There were a ton of shad down at Aldrich ramp yesterday. In fact, that whole stretch from the bridge up several hundred yards from shoreline to shoreline was full of shad. I thought is was current causing the "ripples"....nope. Shad.

I was out there at 5:45am this morning. Couldnt get a topwater bite going. Tried throwing a spinnerbait and wacky rigged worm. I ended up catching 6 bass and lost one. Pics are of the best 5. Missed a few strikes too. Weeds were key once again. That seems to be the trend. I tried the bank on the East side but didnt catch anything there...had a strike at my spinnerbait though when fishing a laydown along the bank. Water temp was in the 70's this morning. The rain really dropped the temp. The deprh was up some too.

6/27 & 6/28

I need to make a longer tether for my cell phone case. I am not getting a good pic of fish on measuring board. In tournament situations, those pics wont count. Once I get that down, I am going to start in sone kayak tournaments. -
I was out late morning on Sunday and again that evening before it started storming again. I caught a total of 9 largemouth bass and one rock bass. 7 of them were from 10:30am until 2:30pm. The others were caught from about 6:15-7pm. I am switching back and forth between a wacky-rigged worm and a football jig. If I miss a strike, I switch up and toss back in there. It has worked several times to get the bite. I basically work the grass/weed lines and any wood I see. This evening, I did the same thing and caught 5 bass. One was over 2lbs and one was over 3lbs. I am consistently catching bass in the 1.0-2.5lb range. I am fishing from my yak. I was out on Finley River after launching from the park there in Ozark on Saturday but was skunked.
-
I just signed up on MoYak, KFB, and Tourneyx to start fishing in kayak tourneys. May eventually enter one in my bass boat. Thought I would start with some yak events.
-
That sounds like a great day fishing! If I catch one or more per hour, I count that as a successful outing. 😁
-
I hit the water in my yak just before 6am. It was cooler out this morning. Perfect weather. I tried throwing a blue and silver Wiggle Wart in deeper water that was parralel to some weed lines but no luck. I ended up throwing a jig and a wacky-rigged worm all morning. I did also try tbe topwater but no bites. Same pattern worked again that had been working the other days. Pumpkin green straight worm with no weight tossed in and along the weed lines in shallow water. Largemouth bass would hit it. All of the bites were pretty subtle. I was using 8-10lb fluro line on a medium action spinning rod and reel. I am guessing a ned rig or flipping some other plastic creature bait would also work. It is nice to be able to do some bass fishing so close to home. I think I will hit Fellows tonight....or maybe Table Rock in the big boat. I was paddling across the lake and saw a baby turtle swimming around at the surfaces. I just scooped him up with my hand for a couple of quick pics.
