What's your first fish of 2022?
Linhardt replied to Johnsfolly's topic in General Angling Discussion
Hybrids are one of my favorite to fish for. My biggest was 14 lbs one spring below Truman at Spillway up next to fence on west side, back in early 2000's. Was fishing lead spoon and switched rods to fish a white topwater spook when they surface for feeding frenzy within casting range. I have Caught several below Bagnall dam in the 5 - 8 lb range from back as well. I know there are good spots on the lower Osage and upstream near the lock and dam where I live in Jeff City, but I do not have a boat to go after them. -
Good Job! I like it when we duck hunters can all get along to teach, share hunts, and experiences. I am sure it put a smile on both your faces.

Took the new boat build a little TOO skinny
Linhardt replied to gotmuddy's topic in General Angling Discussion
I never had a jet boat or got stuck with one. But I have thought about getting a jet a few times and thought if I got stuck I would make sure I had a hand sledge, a couple pieces of 1" steel pipe of 3' or more in length and portable winch to get unstuck. Just hammer the pipe into the river bed, hook up the winch and pull it out. I am sure people have this type of setup in their boats for the same reason. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043OV0IA/?tag=wmania2-20 -
Your screen name is what? And what about that avatar??
Linhardt replied to ness's topic in General Angling Discussion
Met a lot of good folks there at the various get togethers, fishing and hunting meetups. But before it was the link you posted, it was actually ran by the MDC before they shut it down. Then that one started. There are a few originals still around that hang out at whats left of the Cafe Outdoors -

Every since the days of the Conservation Cafe and throughout the many, many forums I belong to I just use my last name. Gets to confusing when people use different names for different forums. Back in the day I also never wanted to hide behind a random screen name so I thought my real last name would be best. It works out good now days because some forums require you to use real names so I never had to change a thing. -
Beautiful Birds there @BilletHead . Looks like the season has been treating you well these first few days. I have yet to get out.

Truman Tailwater Generation
Linhardt replied to Linhardt's topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
Thanks MCrump for the info. Did not think about calling, nor did I find that other link that you posted. I agree with you on the being there the first week on a long generation period because of a flood. At least that has been my experience as well. One of the reasons that I check the generation, just to see when they crack that thing open after the water levels get too high. MoCarp, I have called Cody's before on this and stop by to get tackle each time, and yes they are helpful. -
I have been fishing the tailwaters for 30 years. I try to look at the generation tables to get an idea of what it might be like every time I plan on going down, but I am far from knowing what numbers are good. Can only guess what might be a good number range. Everyone knows when they are generating good or generating and releasing water the fishing is good. If anyone else uses the generation tables to decide on going down and are experienced with the data, see if you can answer a few questions for me. Truman Thursday Generation Table When looking under HST column in the tables, what are the optimum numbers you like to see on there? Do you have a range of numbers that definitely get you headed to Truman Tailwaters to fish? Do these numbers also reflect the amount of water coming from open gates or are they only what is going through generator? Based the above question, if the number is low, could they have an open gate? How can you tell they have a gate open beside seeing it, or by word of mouth? Just trying to figure out what criteria I should be looking for in order to decide on when to go since I live 1 1/2 hours away. Not convenient for me to just stop by and check out.

Don't understand it myself either.

Was at Hobby Lobby in Jefferson City and happen to see this nice drawing of a moose. I thought it would go well in the house. The signature.... Al Agnew.

Not always the case..... You would think that you could use a small layout boat duck hunting with a trolling motor or other motor and hunt a conservation area flooded cornfield and not be in any trouble, but unfortunately, sometime water patrol can and will patrol those areas. I think that is kind of crazy for a flooded field, but it is what it is. For example, I know Four Rivers has had some people getting ticketed for not registering their boat and motor. The odds may be that you won't have an issue, but it is possible.

Was interested in Falconry when I was young. Studied hard and was ready for the falconry test, handmade some of the equipment, looked for a mentor, and ready to capture a bird (wanted to start of with American Kestrel, then move to Redtail Hawk), but parents at the time were not too keen on me having one. So it never transpired. Still interested now days but will probably wait until retirement when I have more time on my hands.

Well didn't get out like I wanted this weekend, scouted Friday but did not see any birds flying anywhere. On a good note I will be out on Thursday at Eagle Bluff's on a friends quick draw reservation.

I'm not, need to get on the ball and get everything pulled out and checked over. But will try somewhere this weekend. Looks like a lot of birds are around. 22,000+ pintails at Loess Bluff NWR (Formerly Squaw Creek). 33,000+ birds down at Otter Slough, which to me is amazing, but I am guessing with the dry times down there they might be more concentrated compared to NW MO. But who knows. Missouri Waterfowl and Habitat Survey

There was a guy years ago at the lake with lakefront property down whatever the road name is where Dog Day's is on that owned a Black Jaguar. Had high fence all the way down to the water. I believe one time it was by the water and happen to pick a bass fishing lure and got it stuck in its lip. Imagine trying to remove that?!

Found the perfect outboard so the search is over. Thanks Billethead for letting me take that little 3 hp Tanaka off your hands. It will definitely get some good use. Also thanks for the great hospitality and conversations this morning about fishing and waterfowl hunting.

Sounds like plan... Just let me know what you find out. Thanks.

Looking for a 2 HP Outboard with internal tank and title, to put on a lightweight duck boat. Had an '84 2 HP Evinrude years ago but sold it and wish I never did. Anyone have any leads on one? Hard to find, especially with a title. Just looking for something lightweight < 30 lbs, that runs and has title.

My guess is Common Shiner or possibly Ozark Shiner. But leaning towards Common Shiner.
