Pros versus amateurs. Class shows every time.

In another place I posted the following about my day at school on 9/11. It seems appropriate here and heads this thread away from confrontation, so forgive me for "re-posting." "9/11 is an interesting day to teach as a middle school social studies teacher. My 7th grade was not alive that day. My 8th grade was way too young to remember. NO visceral connection whatever, but they have had 9/11 lessons nearly every year. Some have seen one of the movies. I started by asking what they know and found partial knowledge tinged with conspiracy. I had to ground and center them with a condensed version of reality - men who had chauffeurs did not come home, nor dishwashers at the posh restaurant, nor secretaries from the law firms. Fire chiefs who had to decide to send men to a task that meant some would die, and fire fighters who went knowing they might. Father Judge, and how haunting similar his posture in the Pulitzer prize winning photo is to Michelangelo's Pieta. I was trying to make sure they understood that "historic" events are not dry things in books but thousands of personal stories all happening at once. We had a good day but we shared some tears."

Vacation Back To Rockaway Beach! Could Use Some Tips
rps replied to sdsr1907's topic in Lower Taneycomo
My goodness that sounds fun. I know nothing of that lake, but I wish you the very best. -
Sandy bottom lake with maybe 2 feet visibility. Grand River feeds it, but only after visiting Grand and Hudson. Old lake so not much natural cover, but locals have placed a bunch of brush piles. Lots of old private docks and boat houses from the 50's and 60's. On Gibson, 20 feet is very deep water to fish. Try dock edge patterns with senkos, swimbaits, and buzz baits. If you find some of the sunken brush piles try Jikka rig creature baits. If you think of it as a dingy flat part of Grand, you won't be far wrong. Hope that helps.

Bad karma has its own way of working out. This story applies to wake boats, PWC, tournament fishermen, all equally. Some years ago I was on Keystone Lake outside of Tulsa. I was in a tin boat and I was fishing for stripers. (Phil, why does auto correct want to turn that word into strippers?) A very sleek and powerful boat from Ugly John's boat dealership launched across the way. It had next to no V, next to no rise from the water line, and a very loud rumba rumba rumba whiiirrrr noise. The driver idled and surged up and down the cove any number of times. The engine was unmuffled and tuned to intimidate. The driver finally made an abbreviated run from the front of the large cove to the back. He shut it down and turned, revving his engine at a constant cadence. Then, with a final rev, he popped the boat on plane and screamed from the cove out onto the choppy lake. He turned slightly into the wind and waves. His boat skimmed the first 5 or 7 wake tops, then knifed into the next. He and the boat disappeared like a diving plane. We fished him from the lake, but his boat remained stuck in the shallow bottom for a week before they towed and yanked it free.

Sorry about the implants. I've had one and did not enjoy it. Well done on the walleye. I am living through you and a few others this time of year.

QB, the fall bite seems to be building. The cool weather expected this week will drop water temps. We are days from a change of patterns and techniques.

Wanting To Fish Down Stream From Spider Creek.
rps replied to bheff's topic in Beaver Tailwater/Upper White River
From Spider Creek down stream you are in transition water. Trout are still there, year around, until you reach Houseman. However, as you go farther down river, the number of walleye and other warm water species increases. Between Spider and the 62 bridge try the suspending jerk bait and the Rebel Wee Crawfish. Also think about night crawlers on a circle hook. Good luck. -
Scott, slide your eyes to my avatar. That is a Tim Hughes painted Top Dollar with Daiichi Death Trap trebles and hand tied hackle and tinsel. I think that is a big clue about how I feel about fishing for top water bass. In a normal year I typically do not begin fishing for walleye until after I have been on the lake 2 or 3 hours. This year was abnormal and I have been starved for a bite on top. Check this old one out:

Champ is correct about the risk, especially once the river bends to the right when headed up stream from Houseman. When a strong flow is going on, that adds depth but it is still easy to find snags. In addition, there at least two points before you reach Houseman where, it is imperitive to know and stay in the channel. I look forward to meeting you on the water. I drive a blue and silver Alumacraft with a 75hp Etec tiller.

Kyle, This Spring I made a Ned rig rod from the following components. I found it to be perfect for the little bait, yet strong enough to deal with the fish. Think about building one. I went out between rain falls for about two hours mid day. I fished the very back of a creek near HI in water 7 to 4 feet deep. I caught 7 with two of them small keepers. The good news is that they hit a top water and a buzz bait. All fish came near wood lay downs. Water temp was 81.

You want fillet? Buy a complete pizmo. Strip it of excess fat and silver skin. Slice into one person portions. Wrap each portion tightly in cling film and place in a freezer baggie. Freeze. Take out what you need for tomorrow and thaw in the refrigerator. If you want a lesson on the prep of a pizmo the internet will show you. If you want me to show you, buy two and I will drive to you, clean both and only take one home. It would still be cheaper than buying the steak at the grocery.

Welcome. I have never fished Stockton or Pomme, but what I know about Table Rock is yours for the asking. Instead of crappie I chase walleye, along with the bass for fun.

HI loses power very frequently. Very frequently.

The early front came through hard here about 5:20 am. rain, wind, lost power. I went back to bed rather than go out. Weaker now but still not done.

Welcome to the forum and we appreciate your post. I live in Holiday Island and fish the Upper End. Gunfish spit as they walk and have a longer glide. Good baits. I hope to go out in the morning and find a decent bite. Good luck.

Here at Holiday Island, planting a tree requires a quarter stick of dynamite, so I do not garden like I used to in Tulsa. I have herbs on my porch and I visit farmers markets. In the last 10 years, the influx of Latino and Asian families have begun to compete with the good old boys, the hippies, and Mennonites, and the markets are incredible here, in Fayetteville, and in Bentonville. This time of year everything is bearing and looks wonderful. Allow me to share a recipe that uses many of the products available this time of year. Start with waxy potatoes (gold or red), zucchini, eggplant, and tomatoes that are all nearly the same diameter. If they aren't cut them to wind up that way. Slice all in 1/4 inch slices so you have equal amounts. Three squashes, three Japanese eggplants, 6 to 8 tomatoes, and 5 or 6 potatoes are about right. Put everything except the tomato in a colander and sprinkle generously with salt. Mix well to coat and allow the vegetables to drain in the colander for an hour. Lay the tomato slices on paper towels and salt liberally. Peel and slice thinly two onions. Saute the onions in olive oil until they caramelize. Add three cloves of thin sliced garlic about a minute before the onions are done. Spray grease a casserole and spread the onions and garlic over the bottom. Use paper towels to press the tomatoes dry and to dry the sliced other vegetables. Spread thyme sprigs over the onion, then stack the vegetables in rows on top of the onions. Drizzle the completed casserole with olive oil and cover with aluminum foil and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese or Parmesan. Return to the oven for an additional 20 minutes to melt the cheese.

I feel college football to be the only sport other than rugby worth watching or following, Unfortunately, my favorite team, OU, is almost impossible for me to watch. None the less. I hope you all enjoy the season. Boomer Sooner!

Time for me to go hunting again.

I just view this as herd thinning.

I do not "do" pro ball. The variables include corporate money, television markets, and rules designed to entice gladiator viewers. Really, sometime after George Blanda, after Green Bay on frozen ground, and after Rocky Bleier, I got bored. Still, I hate to see injury make or break a season, especially when a good Sooner is the victim. I hope his knee is fine, at least for real life. Boomer, Sooner!
