  1. A couple of days ago Scott (Feathers and Fins) and I were discussing night crawler harnesses. Things we understood, but some others did not. I received a very nice PM from a fellow forum member asking a question. This morning I tied up two examples to show the regular Texas rig worm harness and to illustrate the slow death harness. Both use Macks Smile blades. First a picture of the smile blade/slow death components: Next a slow death completed harness: Last a regular harness with a smile blade and a bobber stop to keep the beads and blade from mushing the threaded worm down:
  2. Looks in great shape. I am sure someone will consider themselves lucky to buy it.
  3. BB, give us a couple clues: preferred species preferred style boat or foot This board has a very large and successful group of anglers and they love to tell how to do things. Wait, that didn't come out right. Oh well. Welcome.
  4. Have you every driven in Mexico?
  5. I use braid to my bottom bouncer, but I make the harnesses with 10 or 12# mono. Braid harnesses tangle easily because the line is so fine and limp. You should see the shimmy when you combine a smile blade with the slow death hook on the swivel.
  6. A place called Walleye Supply. Currently I am tying with a 1.5 inch Macks Smile blade in front of a bead in front of a large torpedo float. I use the bobber stops to keep the float off the worm. If I am making a slow death rig, I incorporate your swivel idea. Otherwise I tie on a size 1 worm hook.
  7. Encouraging report. Thank you.
  8. Several of my favorite locations are in the direct line of fire for the tube and ski boat crowd.
  9. The last two trips out were miserable. A few small fish and that was it. This morning I hoped a change was due, and was very happily surprised when it did. I caught four walleye and lost a fifth. Three of the ones I caught were 19, 21, and 24 inches. I found them on a rocky wooded point, 26 to 28 feet deep. I used a pink/blue/chartreuse crawler harness at 1.2 mph. I wanted to keep fishing, but the boat traffic became dangerous, so I came in.
  10. First, and most important, I am pleased - heck, I am sure we all are pleased - to hear your wife is recovering. She doesn't know me, but tell her she has my best wishes. Second, thank you for the most positive report I have seen in a while.
  11. Owl Creek was not cleared before the lake flooded. There are trees throughout the cove right up to the mouth and beyond. The bass, and sometimes walleye, suspend in those tree tops and ambush that which swims above. I have caught them on the same bait at the same location and by trolling a bait that barely ticked the submerged tops. Something like a Norman Deep Little N or DD22 would accomplish the same barely above the trees on retrieve.
  12. My wife and I enjoyed this post Phil. Thank you for sharing. It is all about process, not product.
  13. Never have worked with a roller guide. We need to spend some hours talking. I do not understand all the salt water knowledge you are applying to fresh water. You must remember 10# is "heavy" line to me now days.
  14. Scott, When you are ready, I make a mean Ned rig rod.
  15. The Eucha is even closer. It is just outside Jay, Oklahoma.
  16. That looks special.
  17. It's about the speed.
  18. jdelow77, your information doesn't list where you live so I arbitrarily used Fayetteville as a starting point for this information. Try Lake Eucha in Oklahoma. Excellent crappie lake, small in size, with marked brush piles. About an hour and 15 minutes from Faytown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Eucha
  19. Some things are harder than others. I have collected a list of those things. 1. Being an ethical lawyer that makes a good living. 2. Playing rugby past the age of 35. 3. Enjoying parent/teacher interaction. 4. Catching keeper size fish every day on Table Rock after June.
  20. I don't know why I bothered but I went out around 9:30 and fished until 2:30. I used gulp minnows on a slow death rig and trolled a scatter rap on lead core line. I fished 15 to 30 feet deep, flats and edges. Four walleye, all short, and 6 or 10 spots, 10 to 15 inches. Two large bluegill. Pretty much boring, but at least I was on the lake, right?
  21. Well, I got as far as the buoys at the marina entrance and Missouri lit up like a fireworks display. I wouldn't be surprised if Eagle Rock marina got hit. I turned around and parked my boat in the slip. If it clears I will go out later.
  22. Impulse, keitech
  23. To rig a plastic, I suggest something very soft and smelly.
  24. I hope you enjoy the devil out of the park. Stop and enjoy and think. The CCC put it all together during the Depression. Something the government did to keep people working. Every CCC place I visit and every WPA school or public building I visit gives me a pause.
  25. As I reported in another thread, July 5 was most unkind to me. I caught spots and bluegill, but only had one walleye bite and it came unbuttoned very quickly. I do not intend to give up, however. I merely have rearmed. While I was in Rogers today on another legitimate errand, I stopped at Cabelas. I picked up two scatter raps. I have taken my lead core rod out of the closet and it will go with me to the lake tomorrow. In addition, I bought a jar of the Gulp Alive 3 inch minnows. I intend to thread those on a one bead slow death rig. I am going to cover some serious ground on the flats and edges tomorrow.
