I finally bought a Boga grip and learned to use it to hold every fish. Even the small stinkers can sabotage you.
  5. FWIW, Tackle Warehouse carries a two pack of War Eagle spoons (7/8 oz.) for $7.95. I have caught numerous quality walleye on the white and other colors. They come with EWG Gamakatsu hooks and swivel on the nose. I suggest they are as effective as the examples above and cheaper than you can make if you consider the accessories. If you elect to go with the midbody tie model, seriously consider only putting a hook on one end. The likelihood of jiggling the bait free of a hang will dramatically increase.

    What's Cooking?

Marinated, roasted wings with saffron/curry rice, and a bit of roughage.
  7. They work - when they don't hang up. They were designed for three methods: cast and rip, vertical jigging, and swim bait style. Tom Mann, the owner of the company that made them, caught a huge string on Lake Eufala, Alabama, and said he caught them on these. If you cast and rip, fish them on a clean bottom long gravel roll off. Vertical jigging in pole timber works, but don't try to move from one tree to the next with the tm. As a swim bait, there are many better options.
  8. If I were a younger man and still living in Eureka Springs, I would pay you tomorrow.
  9. firetiger is a combo color that combines chartreuse green with black and/or orange. BTW, pro walleye anglers troll spinnerbaits effectively.

    Family History

My father's long time secretary was the president of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. For a present, she did a complete trace of my mother and father. On both sides I am white trash Scots/Irish. The families came in pre and post Civil war and lived in the Appalachians. Mother's family and Father's family both followed the migration to Missouri and then to NW Arkansas pattern. The anomaly was Coonrod Steiner who came in via New Orleans in 1903. He was Alsatian German and the name eventually twisted to Stainer. The wife comes from the long line of Henry Hudson descendants mixed with Scottish Congregationalist ship builders. Our children do not stand a chance.
  11. If he is a troller, then he may not be accustomed to casting for walleye. If he fishes only impounded waters, then he needs a simple white or firetiger jig with a trailer, meat or imitation meat, or plastic. If he intends to fish moving water, then clousers with a little flash tied in will work.

    Sesame salmon rice bowl tonight.
  13. The wife and I celebrated the 50th in August. Together 2 years before that. I figure, if she hasn't kicked me out by now, maybe I got lucky.

    past e fagioli (pasta fazool)
  15. A fellow teacher, whose class room was across the hall from me for several years, had a magnificent large mouth mount on his classroom wall. The fish was 8+ he said. He also said it was the only thing he got out of the divorce.

    What's Cooking?

After Thanksgiving, my wife made several comments. Some of those concerned the meal. Next year she wants cornbread dressing, more queso, and what was I going to do with the turkey tenders. You can't leave an unsatisfied wife running around. She will only think of things for you to do. Turkey tenders, cornbread dressing, and a new batch of queso.
  17. Walleye Central has a 10 pound club. Seems to me that might be a good dividing line. Even then, think repo mount?
  18. Good replies. My best bass, one I might have considered mounting in my youth, came from a Tulsa pond in the late 60's. I had no money to mount. It was a bit over 9. Today that pond is a "water feature" in a high dollar gated community. If only for the irony, I might enjoy that mount. I have been blessed with several good fish since then, but I have chosen not to mount. I am sure many of you feel the same. What would it take to change your mind?
  19. Best version.
  20. That will do it.
  21. Twas blind, but now I see.
  22. As you might expect, I belong to several different fishing boards. Yesterday someone from the Lake Erie area posted a question. Should he stuff a 10 pound fish that did not measure 30 inches? 30 inch walleye in Lake Erie are like 20 inch LM in Table Rock. Nice to catch and worth a picture, but not that big a deal. Choose you species, choose your fishing locale, ignore what you may have done or believed in the past. What size would it take for you to mount a fish?

Last night's cheesy corn chowder. (Note - it would look better if I had used the orange cheddar.)
