    What's Cooking?

Simple fare this evening. Some of the left over smoked pork tenderloin went into a roasted hash with a poached egg. The salad was made from blanched sugar snaps that came from my porch.
  2. At 929 to 933, HI is still good, but you need to park in what they call the overflow parking. The ramp at that level is flatish. Easier to do with two people. In the old days people launched off the point, but they blockaded that. BTW, at high water, the point at the opening becomes a prime walleye area.
  3. By 929, the question becomes can you get under the Beaver bridge, and if so, will they cut water loose and make it impossible to get back. Serious answer, at present, 928, if you go slow and watch what you are doing you can get a bit above the 62 bridge in a bass boat but probably not as far as Spider Creek. In a river boat you could make it past there.
  4. I have harvested modest amounts of the sugar snaps twice. My bush tomatoes (cherry) popped out their first bloom today. Tulsa is a bit warmer than mot of the areas you guys live. For example strawberry season is nearly over.
  5. My two cents: A 24v system should be plenty unless you fish all day tournaments in a gale. I am shopping a new troll motor and the Ultrex is my second choice. When The Ghost comes out in a longer shaft I will buy. Battery advice is all over the map. Some advocate Optima. Wrench says don't spend that kind of money and simply buy new batteries every year. I buy Interstates and replace them every other year. Never had a problem with that system so long as you keep them charged. I have had Lowrance, HB, Simrad, and Garmin units on my boat. They are all different and all excellent, but If you go with the Ultrex, go HB and link your console and your bow. Personally, I would buy the built in Mega DI. Remember, my advice is worth what you paid for it.

    What's Cooking?

I don't have a deck rail anymore. We plebeians cannot afford such luxuries. Preping for tonight this afternoon.

    What's Cooking?

Smoked bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with sweet potatoes roasted with onions and sage. Sugar snaps from my patio garden and a hand made sauce. A bit too done for my taste, but still excellent.

    What's Cooking?

About 8 years ago they cut and repaired my left shoulder. It was "down" about three weeks before surgery. I was lucky, though. I had limited use of it in only a few weeks and, after therapy, I had full range, although I never quite recovered all the strength.

    What's Cooking?

Pork tenderloin headed to the smoker.
  11. In 2011 and 2017 (both 930+ years) I found the fishing excellent once things stabilized. The walleye stayed shallow in the murky water and buzz baits and top water in the bushes early gave way to finesse worms and Zinkers later in the day. In addition, try out the picnic table pattern. Hope no one loses property or themselves while it gets that high.
  12. Some of the parts are in and the others are coming for the new top water rod I will build. I will use an MHX P783 (6'6" Med. w/ Mod. Fast action). The grip will be the Winn blue swirl split grip and using blue thread I will spiral wrap Black Recoil micro guides. I chose that blank because Zell Rowland and Ike agree that for top water you need that kind of action. If I decide to throw a super spook or the large size whopper plopper, I will need to lob it. I will move my Lews Custom Pro to it.
  13. Last week end I finished a crankbait, light spinner bait, finesse jig rod built on a MHX MB 862 blank. Black recoil micro guides spiral wrapped with chartreuse thread to match a Lews reel and a Winn handle. The picture below is not mine but representative of what I did. .

    What's Cooking?

Alright experts, guess what these ingredients mean about tonight's dinner. Starting top right and moving clockwise, you see salt, capers, white wine, lemon juice, garlic, lemon pepper, and butter. Write your answers down and exchange them with the student to your right. We will review later.

    What's Cooking?

The wife and I got a bit crazy this afternoon. We had frozen peaches that needed using so I made a pie crust and she made peach, brown sugar, sure jell filling. We used the dough to cover the peaches and used the excess to make sugar cinnamon sticks.
  19. The TM shows a green light turned on and plugged in, therefore I believe it has power. I did not check voltage as I do not have the tool. Wrench, I am the ultimate can't do squat mechanic. Wasn't raised the right way, I guess.

What do you suppose will be dinner tonight?
  21. A number of issues shortened my fishing year last year. A big issue delayed it this year. I went to the lake today to clean up the boat and test things. The first part went fine. The testing did not. The Evinrude ETECH started on the first key turn. I love their motors. The troll motor fob would not function. I changed out its battery and still nothing. I took the foot pedal out of storage and plugged it in. Still nothing. At that point I used my engineering and technical skills. I decided the darn thing wasn't going to work. Later this week I will pull it out of the water and take for service. I wish I were still close to the shop in Springfield. Despite the above I took the boat out and tried to fish as I once did 45 or 50 years ago. Since the lake was whitecapping, that did not work worth a darn, either. Every protected cove had at least one boat in it. I gave up before I had a single strike. Water temp 65. Visibility 2-3 feet.
  22. Under the current "rules" any wet Spring will be like this.

    What's Cooking?

Last night I did a hotdog, potato, sauerkraut casserole. Not worth a picture but tasty. Today we ordered the brunch here and saved the shrimp cocktail and smoked salmon for tonight's dinner.
  24. That is high, but the last five feet on BS is an enormous amount of water.
