  1. Went out between the thunder boomers, 10:30 to 3:00. Semi overcast and covered up with pleasure craft that gave me no pleasure. Marked fish suspended in tree tops at 21 feet. Trolled a reef runner knock off through those tops and managed one keeper walleye and several small bass. My backup glasses, secured by a keeper lanyard, stayed with me. I figure a keeper walleye on Labor Day weekend is a win.
  2. This is what I use: http://www.ttiblakemore.com/home/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=696&category_id=125&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2 except I use size 1/0. Recently the Wally World in Cassville has carried these.
  3. I made my first trip out in six weeks Saturday morning. Fished between Holiday Island and Eagle Rock from 6:15 to 10:30. Water temps 83 at HI and 85 at Eagle Rock. I targeted walleye and fished inside bend flat breaks to the channel. Live bait and trolled cranks. No bites. Zip. Nada. The bad news is that I was headed uplake to make one more stop to try something different when I crossed a large wake (the traditional holiday boat traveling at the perfect speed to make the largest wake for the tuber and the PWC behind it.) As I bounced I looked to the side and the wind/bounce snatched my glasses from my face to the lake bottom. That ended the trip, gave me something to do in the afternoon, and hit the wallet as hard as a Steez.
  4. The quick answer is no. However, if you use a single light wire 1/0 J bend plastic worm hook and rig the crawler like it was plastic, you will hang up less. Less hangs = less fewer lost rigs. In addition, when you do hang, slow steady pressure often bends the hook and you get the rig back.

    Help!

Thank you for sharing what you know. Collectively, the information gives me several starting points.

    Help!

Doctor has cleared me to fish this weekend for the first time in over 6 weeks. Despite the tourist invasion, I hope to fish early for three days. Any real time bass or walleye information appreciated. (Thanks QB for your real time reports) Thermocline depth, trigger speeds, current ambush trends? Am I looking at spoons jigged on breaks or topwaters early followed by dragged worms. Are they suspended and i need to troll cranks? BTW, thanks.
  7. Boyhood: Daredevle spoon, Shannon Twin Spin, Mepps squirrel tail. Modern: Manns Jelly Worm. Later the Wiggle Wart. After that an Okiebug single blade spinner bait.
  8. I am thrilled for the grandsons!
  9. I don't know how QB and jeb fish it, but I would try this:
  10. I don't get it. What are we supposed to do?
  11. My father's last trip with me was on the White for big brown. I cannot remember the guide's name, but he was a police officer near Gassville. Elvin? Molting crawdad specialist, We caught four fish - 5 to 9+ pounds. We turned them all loose. At the end of the day, dad said, "Brother (his nickname for me) that was great, but these boats and seats hurt my knees." I never got him out with me again, but he was nearly 80 at that point. Take the "dad" out as often as you can, take pictures.

  13. I am late to the party on this thread. Sorry. My internet was down. I am in my third year of an Alumacraft Navigator 165 tiller steer running a 75hp Etec. I have been totally satisfied, It is stable dry and comfortable in all weather. The engine starts on the first key turn. It hardly burns any gas and runs 34 mph (GPS) with the standard aluminum prop, a full gear load, and just me. With three adults top end remains above 30 mph. The side console is rated for a 90hp. If you want a ride, I am in Holiday Island.
  14. What an informative thread! Once again, OA collective knowledge is amazing. BTW, I'm running a 75hp ETEC.
  15. Overwhelming. Simply overwhelming. Those of us in tin boats don't even know the words to describe a boat like this. I have seen Quillback's up close and was impressed. This is merely overwhelming.
  16. Really well done, but you have created a monster. Next time they will expect to catch fish.
  17. Good luck and please tell us how our TR differs from and is alike to Guntersville. BTW, the best advice on TR is turn around throw to the deep water, not the bank.
  18. A 9 to 12 inch spot is very tasty. Please keep and eat!
  19. Y'all are scaring me.
  20. cinnamon, ground coriander, clove, and allspice are all candidates for the "strange" flavor. I have not tried Johnny's so I cannot guess. However, I regularly use small amounts of some or all of these ground spices (and cumin) to change up the standard paprika/chili powder/garlic powder/onion powder/sugar rubs. Itching to try a new rub? Start with Cavenders Greek seasoning instead of paprika, use less salt, and add the usual suspects other than onion powder and garlic powder.
  21. One foodie to another -> Outstanding!
  22. Unlike many, I do not baste ribs or butt. No apple juice spritzes. I rub early and let the smoke speak for itself. Now once I have the pork pulled and on the bun, I want sauce on the meat before I add the slaw. With ribs, I serve the sauce as a dipping sauce.
  23. Ness: Yes it is fairly thin and it retains the mustard/vinegar bite, but the tomato sauce tames it a bit and makes it brown instead of yellow. My guests react more favorably since mustard yellow is way outside their comfort zone. I also switched Franks Red Hot for the original cayenne pepper ingredient. Franks adds heat and flavor.
  24. " Some things do not turn out well if made in cast iron. Don't know Branson Ozark recipe but I'll make a note to try it.
  25. I used Tim Hughes in KC. He does the removal and then paints. Check out his site. http://www.hughescustombaits.com/
