  1. I love wiggle wart days.
  2. Very nice, sir.
  3. Rare picture with me and the fish. This was a finger pinch 26. Sadly, it equaled my best this year. I have no complaints on numbers or average size this year, but the big fish needs to improve to match previous years. For example, my profile avatar is a 27 and was the second largest of that year.

  5. Bill's advice, as always, is good. When I used to have a Supreme river boat and wanted to fish the lake, Viney was a good destination for me. Lots of fishable water without traveling far.
  6. I plugged the boat in yesterday and this morning I was very excited to be able to be out for the first time in two weeks. By 7:10 I was saying ugly things. The crank battery was dead, dead, dead. I yanked it and drove to Missouri. I waited until the store opened and replaced it. I was at the location I wished to begin, the mouth of Rock Creek, exactly two hours later than planned. I saw two different boats of walleye fisherman I know and one fished Rock Creek with me. I marked many fish between 26 and 40 feet. Used a crawler rig and trolled cranks. Four bass, 1 keeper size, but no walleye. Motored over to Owl Creek and trolled the channel at 36 feet over the submerged tree tops. One bass pushing 4 pounds hit first. Then I connected and landed a 26 inch walleye. My friend had to leave and I motored back to the Holiday Island area but did not find another walleye. One jet ski all day.
  7. I am humbled. By you and by him. Class. Prayers.
  8. Champ and Dutch (among others) speak the truth. If it's legal and you caught it, no one should criticize you if you wish to eat it.
  9. Dutch ovens are the ultimate cooking device. Bread, biscuits, cobbler. chili, stew, dumplings and soups. Say what kind of recipes you want and we all will forward.
  10. Last weekend the bass I caught while trying to find walleyes were full, plump, and had large crawdad feelers sticking out. I did not pull any dads out and did not clean the fish, but the color makes me think they were hard shell.
  11. Walleye are stocked annually and a very small natural spawn supplements the stocking. They lake contains many thousand specimens, but its sheer size means they are spread thinly. Yes, there are some spots where you know fish are near by, but we were fishing an area unfamiliar to us all. The water looked good for walleye, but I'm afraid the tough bite made it impossible for us to land one. I have no idea if or when TR will become like Bull and walleye will be considered one of the main species.
  12. I embarrassed myself. Not one walleye. Not even a short. Lots of marks on the sonar - 30 to 40 feet down. I presented trolled cranks, worms on harness, slow death, and spoons. I caught spots, crappie, catfish and a baby brown bass. I went home, tail between my legs, and sulked. The other boats did about the same. It is discouraging when the big fish pot you bet on has the money returned to everyone.
  13. I will attend. The boat is in my driveway ready to drive there in the morning. I'd like to meet some of the people who read and write posts.
  14. A good jig combo, a grub on a 1/4 head, a good top water, a white spinner bait and a classic wart will probably cover any trip between now and Thanksgiving.
  15. I had made arrangements to fish with a friend today. I left Holiday Island at 6:40 to pick him up at Eagle Rock at 7:00. Fog kept me near the bank and slow. It takes an hour that way. He was a good sport about me being 40 minutes late. On the way there two, TWO, idiots passed me on plane in the main channel. There was no way they could see and they had to be driving by GPS. They were going in opposite directions. I hope they scared the pee out of each other. No top water bite for us this morning in the Roaring River arm - well no keepers anyway. We fished for walleyes after the sun came out. We found large bluegill and short bass in the 26 to 34 foot range. One keeper walleye. Because we were going slow several people chatted with us as we passed. Evidently the big tournament down lake was not the only one. We discovered the Eureka Springs bass club and one other were out. The people we talked to were catching shorts on drop shot and jigs in 25 foot plus water. Water temp started at 76 and wound up at 79. Hope the information helps.
  16. Table Rock? October? Worth it? Oh yeah! Guide? Oh yeah X 2!
  17. tell it, brother
  18. trust me
  19. Some of the baits are more regular than others, though I don't know why. I have come to believe the ones that occasionally go awry are the most effective. The real regular ones are second, and the "can't make it walk right" group are the least effective.

    Off The Top

The wife and I were scorers at the Holiday Island cross country meet this morning. The lake I could see from the booth was incredibly tempting. Good on you for taking advantage of it.!
  21. Thanks. I did not expect a shout out. I am just thankful to be blessed. I am healthy, I live on TR, I love my job, I love my wife and my life. Every day is a good day for me. :-)
  22. Saturday my wife and I are running the Holiday Island High School Cross Country Invitational scorers booth. Next time, maybe?
  23. I just read a post on another thread that said everyone here was part of an exclusive good ol boy group that would not share. Here we have several members volunteering solid advice and a guide saying he would be glad to show a new member a few things for free. Wow. Some people just don't have a clue.
  24. well done!
  25. I too dislike early releases. At least you had three good fish on.
