How to Fillet a Common Carp - Video
MoCarp replied to captain belly's topic in Carp, the Other White Meat
Common carp are good eating, bull need proper preparation, blending the fish and placing it on ice is step one...smaller under 8 pounds are best....smoked common carp rivals salmon.... -
Those high power floods are illegal when a boat is under power be it slow or fast, it’s a coast guard rule....I know a couple states back east enforcement it tight this year.... big carp don’t get big by being stupid....they don’t run as shallow as they used too....and the biggest fish are more likely to get caught at noon as midnight.... as far as the PR battle...a hobby that makes you dispose of 300# of dead fish after a long night fishing gets old quick....leaving floaters and piles at the ramps don’t help ether.....at one time a few spots around here produce fish consistently in the 30s... the people who win with probable hit some private golf corse ponds with huge grass carp....prob some big gar around.....last time I put much effort into this sort of thing over 50% were buff and gar.....alligator gar once swam the white river....couple places in Oklahoma I know has them.. I hope no one gets hurt, overloaded boats, floodwater don’t mix

A few fish being caught by C.A.G members
MoCarp replied to MoCarp's topic in Carp, the Other White Meat
A few Rudd getting caught...I remember when they sold these for bait....shocked they get this big before something munches them...they used to be great crappie minnows when little...think they quit selling them in the mid 80s -

Ozark Hellbenders from the FWS page Some Ozark Highland streams are home to the federally endangered Ozark hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis bishop). These large salamanders spend their lives in clear, cool spring-fed streams, under large rocks or in crevices. For reasons that remain unclear, hellbender populations precipitously declined in the 1990s. In fall 2011, with support from the Service and state fish and wildlife agencies, the St. Louis Zoo successfully fertilized a clutch of eggs—a significant milestone for a captive breeding program that was 10 years in the making. From these eggs, 165 hellbenders hatched—a huge stride in recovery for the species. In addition to successful captive breeding, scientists have become adept at locating eggs in the wild. The result of both efforts is over 2,400 Ozark hellbenders slated for release back into Ozark streams. Young hellbenders are held in captivity until they reach larger sizes so they stand a better chance for survival when they are released into the wild. With this approach, biologists can stabilize hellbender populations until causes of their declines are addressed.

Sometimes they do get it right I lifted this from the NWF Long a symbol of our nation’s pride, the bald eagle came to the brink of extinction throughout much of its range in the 1960s. Following a long-term decline coinciding with a reduction in its prey species, introduction of the egg-thinning pesticide DDT nearly wiped out bald eagles from the lower 48 states. In 1962, Rachel Carson’s landmark conservation science book Silent Spring brought to light the detrimental effects of DDT on birds and the environment, and under mounting pressure, the EPA largely banned the use of DDT in 1972. The bald eagle landed on the original endangered species list in 1967, gaining important protections from hunting and loss of habitat. The ban on DDT, protections from the Endangered Species Act, and captive breeding and reintroduction efforts all helped reverse the bald eagle’s decline. In 2007, the Interior Department officially declared the bald eagle fully recovered and removed it from the endangered species list. As of 2009, there were an estimated 143,000 bald eagles in the United States.

A nice plump conditioned crawler works well with that setup as well....sometimes blasting about is warranted if you don’t have spots or confidence in those spots.....but after 30 years of every water and weather conditions you get to learn about the heartbeat of the lake... I also recommend this book...I’ll warn you it’s the most expensive paperback you will ever buy... as a note “slicks” are the bait of choice on bullshoals, half the battle is finding a good trapping spot ( glass minnow traps rock)

You can wade and float, best of both worlds....can’t cover water too fast so a days float only a 5th of what you normally bite off in a canoe....pits can be fun, even tubed TR a couple times....

Awwwe pawshaw....😂🤣😂🤣😂 boat noise makes the fish twitchy on Stockton....seems waves slapping your boat tells them you are there...this time of year noon till dark is best....last 2 hours of daylight...slip bobbers with a rattle bead just above your shot.....secondary points are your friend
