MDC to try to eradicate Asian carp at Creve Coeur Lake
MoCarp replied to moguy1973's topic in Conservation Issues
this was where I read the story I had read, perhaps it was editorial assumptions? just read the MDC release and this isn't in it http://kbia.org/post/st-louis-county-and-wildlife-biologists-launch-assault-asian-carp#stream/0 -
saw this on fox news thought I'd share, please be safe people!

which person who resigned are you saying is an "academic"

nah its just cleaning house from the past admin... in the past cushy gov posts are divided out as reward to donors, or political support etc....it was one reason Missouri set up its commission the way that it did...still not perfect but its what we have

read that today says silvers are bottom feeders, last time I looked they filter feed, ether way the part that says its going to be expensive should resonate with everyones wallet perhaps this record cold will kill them off before money is spent....should be interesting -
its possible live thread fin shad made there way into LOZ with the mild winters we have had until this year, its possible that a population began and flourished in LOZ and other places across the USA there are a plethora of studies on how species move north or south because of cyclic weather its been fadish to speak of for example how moose, and polar bears were under environmental stresses, as we have warmer decades species like armadillos, Opossums, even fire ants move north a bit each year, over a warm decade move quite a bit, then we have a bad stretch of winters and things get pushed back its natures way be it iguanas in florida, or Possums in Minnesota to armadillos here nature makes the rules, it it stays this cold for long every non cold adapted critter dies or it's population severely cut back, Science and "biologists" do not deal in absolutes and facts change thats why sampling is done. I will be interested to see how the asian carp deal with extended cold in the upper Mississippi valley watersheds, nature abhors stability, get too much of something, then the things that eat them explode, or sickness slaps down a population, non native fish are at a disadvantage, native fish have had millions of years to adapt, usually it mans meddling that change the habitats, like heat islands in cities allowing things to get through the cold, or supply water in times of extreme droughts.

years ago was an article on live crickets for smallmouths in fishing facts

I hear that 2 years ago in the mid/late 80's 4# where pretty common, they state started managing more for largemouths after the big LMBV scare, SMB were the dominate bass species the closer you got to the dam, seemed when they stocked the copper nose bluegills and silversides, was about the time things changed, I suspect LMB were stocked as well....then all the stocking of the lake strain walleyes, you used to see walleyes over 10# pretty regular in spring and fall, then they started pumping water to springfield, fishing TBH was never as good as it was before, lake seems clearer than it was in the past...I think the lake needs less lake strain walleyes and more of the native river strain, but I am told before the river strain is hard to produce in the hatchery, yellow perch would or should do well, if they would stock them, they are prolific and would produce more prey items stockton so desperately needs, you used to see daphnia in the lake stop seeing them in the early 90's, tiger muskies used to be in the lake along with northern pike, yet the crappie people yatched loudly that they ate all the crappie, I always contended that all the crappie fisherman filling their freezers well over the limits is what hurts the crappie fishing. people still string everything there, need a 18" one smallmouth a day, and 12" limit on spots in stockton bump crappie to 12" drop the limit to 10....18" walleyes again...then fine the bejeezus out of over harvest and try and catch the meat fishermen....but as long as people are happy having buddy tourneys catching 14-17" LMB and keeping cigar 15" walleyes nothing will change, if COs want to catch the game hogs, hit the boat ramps that don't get used as much, once a couple people loose their boats it will stop

see the above video, both have "threads" in their dorsal fin is more prominent in YOY gizzards than when they are older, its all about the mouth structures

here is a few pics from a while back me and my brother with a few bunnies, a buddy and a brown he caught plugging for walleyes, me with a nice blue from below Truman dam, a Brit here fishing Stockton for carp and we passed a driveway with a few flatties heads on fence posts, same place had paddle fish heads early during snagging season...for some reason he was fascinated by it....thought we had wels catfish

they did that on a stretch off shoal creek a few years ago, not sure that they even had to get permits, ruined a nice stretch of shoal and washed in one of the best wintering holes where a spring ran in, understand we need gravel but.....

I was gone because I move to Texas for a decade came back here in 2011...I always posted about carp back in the beginning...but also other fish......most of my life I have loved chasing stream smallmouth..still love it....wintertime was always my Taney time....chunking plugs for big browns.....hunting huge walleyes in bull shoals ...big blue cats and walleyes below Truman....been an avid fisherman all my life..only slowed down because of health issues..and that is changing....I also have written for some outdoor publications and have an article coming out in Feb (of course its carp) until my injury I worked in advertising..owned my own agency APC media.....went to school to be a fisheries biologist and fell into sales instead ..have biologists that I know all over the US, and interact with them on a variety of issues not just carp and the whole ... thing is a note taking method used to separate thoughts in a useable way digitally so one can read it at a flash... don't remember where i learned it..but sure I am not the only one if you look harder...ironically its the Bfing community that went down that road...so one of you "haters is prob one of about 3 people from the Bfing orgs.... billethead..unsure why we started butting heads, but I am told your are good people, and if I have offended you I am sorry....I am sure one day we will cross paths and lunch is on me...
