I know this isn't lake fishing but I spent a few + hours with the Ned on Saturday. It was on a small creek in SWMO. The water could not have been any clearer. After struggling to catch fish most of the morning I tied on a PBJ and quickly put a bunch of fish in the kayak.
At one point I was able to watch a fish come and take it. I was directly over the fish and it just followed and watched it. I let it sit dead for a bit and then just barely nudged it and that fish took it. The funny thing is I never felt that fish. I just saw it take it. Set the hook and brought it to the boat.
The other surprising thing (for me anyway) was that I caught just as many fish swimming it back to the boat. It was a good time and that little lure did help me out of a slump.
Here's a link to that report. All the fish pictured were caught on the ned with the exception of the one with a crankbait stuck in it's face.
A long time ago I had a bunch of Daiwa reels that would let the line get down between the spool and the frame. And they would cut it just like you are talking about. Those were the last Daiwa reels I ever owned.
Yeah we do all that too but I guess it's more expensive where I'm at. Between cheerleading, band, tumbling, dance, volleyball, proms, cars, etc.... it's been very expensive. A $500 bar is chump change.
But it has been worth every penny.
It ain't so bad. Expensive but not bad. My last one just turned 13 and I have another that will graduate high school in May and another that just graduated from MSU. It's faint, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I posted a trip report.
Isnt what this is about? Or do you guys want to keeping arguing about who has/is the biggest pecker?
I even caught a bunch of fish on the Ned rig. Nothing on the HD Craw but I did fish it. Chief can vouch for me.
So after dodging Chief like the plague every time he asked me to fish I finally sent him a text simply asking where we were fishing Saturday. He was quick to respond and had a plan in place.
So early Saturday morning I rolled west.
Met up with Chief at the Love's/McDonalds/Quick Lube and after an egg mcmuffin and a quick shuttle we splashed in.
it was fast and furious at the beginning on a square bill for me but it was short lived.
I yanked three out real quick on the SB and then it went slow. And stayed slow for a long time.
Chief finally struck gold (bronze) and landed a nice 17 inch stud.
After a sandwich that Chief bought from a gas station in Kansas I decided to see if the almighty Ned rig could pull me out of a slump. The quick answer is Yes, Yes it can.
When I rolled into the driveway it was just as dark as when I left. I was sunburned. And I was pretty ~~ sore. Mission accomplished.
Maybe that's the problem. You feel like you have something to prove and nothing to back it up. It becomes much more fun when you have nothing to prove.
The really good lakes are about 70 miles southeast. But Falcon is much safer than those right now. That's too bad because there aren't any lakes in the states that compare.
I played football in high school. Defensive end in south Oklahoma. Didn't play my senior year because I was so banged up. 3rd knee surgery a couple of years ago, knee replacement is next. And yes, I would do it all over again.
There are cheaper options out there. Thule and Yakima are the brands to have but there are cheaper options out there. For the past year I've been using racks that I spent a whopping $50 on. But I needed something that was removable. A dozen trips at highway speeds and it's never been a problem.
