  1. His warrant could have been for a parking ticket. We have no idea what it was for.
  2. I was fishing on Stockton several years ago with my dad and started asking me where that humming noise was coming from. Well thanks to Metallica I can't hear very well anymore but I knew exactly what was happening from a prior experience. I grabbed the shaft of the rod to set it down and it shocked the hell out of me. Well you don't have to ask me to leave twice. I was outta there.
  3. Lost my uncle to lightning on Texoma in 1985. He had been fishing but was trying to load up and get off the water because of the coming storm. If you see lightning then it's time to take cover.
  4. I understand what you are saying Jim, I honestly do. But the down side of this is we either have to teach our children to hide their successes or learn to deal with the rampant negativity from everyone, everywhere. Either way it's a teaching opportunity. We need to teach them that it's okay to harvest some fish but you can't keep coming back and doing the same thing over and over again without harming the resource. It also gives them the opportunity to learn the harsh realities of life. You know the one where your opinion means nothing but some asshat-on-the-internet's opinion means EVERYTHING. I teach my kids to not be ashamed for what they believe and to never let anyone change their opinion without some facts. Just coming on here and demanding that those fish are released because that's what you prefer means nothing. Especially if you are worried about cashing a check every time you go out. I'm about as close to 100% as you can get to catch and release. I might keep 2 or 3 every 3 or 4 years for me and the wife. I keep bass because I know how to catch them. Don't tell me to go catch some walleye or crappie or anything else. I don't like to fish for them. Can I go buy some fish at the store. Yep and I usually do. But occasionally I take a couple home. This world has gone over the top on trying to guilt people into doing things that they don't really want to do. I can understand if it's a truly horrible thing. But if you get so upset because somebody kept a few fish that you feel the need to openly bash them? Well then you need to man the hell up. If you have to say something then how about bringing some information into it and making it a teaching experience. Not just I'm a big guy with my panties in a wad and you will do as I say. That is purely ignorant. So if it's going to be about the kids lets teach them why we should catch and release and quit teaching them how you should be an idiot on the internet.
  5. Had a buddy that uses one on his canoe quite a bit. It works really well for him but he just mounts it right to the side. Kind of tight to operate but it works for him and it's easier to balance it that way. Plus he pretty much uses it as a kickstand when getting in or out of the canoe. It's great for getting through those slack water areas.
  6. Yeah I hit one on Pomme about 15 years ago running 60ish. I saw it but it was way too late. Not a fun time but at least it was expensive.
  7. Well sometimes they do benefit from our country and sometimes they don't. The US just denied Visa's to the India Youth Archery Team that was scheduled to travel to the US this week to compete in the World Youth Archery Championships. http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report-us-denies-visa-to-world-championship-bound-indian-youth-archery-team-2092653
  8. I've been in quite a few fine dining establishments all over the country, not by choice, and have never been impressed. I'd take the little hole that me, my dad and uncle went to in a little dive of a town in Mexico. They didn't speak English. We didn't speak Spanish. And everything was absolutely amazing. The presentation probably sucked but the service was over the top.
  9. Caught a smallmouth like that on the Gasconade last summer. It was a nice 16" fish with no signs of damage to the outside of the body but it had that same weird shape.
  10. That one has to be perfect for Caught My Eye. Let us know how it goes. Both of them are great pieces.
  11. It will never happen period. Wearing a seatbelt is a law and I still don't see everyone wearing them.
  12. I don't know if they are great or not but they are scared to death to get caught texting and driving. Week before last the oldest caught a curb and blew out the sidewall on a tire. The others were close to needing new so we did all four. Last week the middle one had to go to court for her speeding ticket. Well I guess she didn't have to go but we wanted it to stay off her record for insurance purposes. And I still have one 5 years away from a drivers license. And yes I know that sometimes you can do everything and they still make a mistake. Hell I am the poster child of that. But I'm doing all that I can to give them the support they need to make the right decision. I'd much rather have a good kid that made a mistake than just creating another pimple-on-the-butt-of-society.
  13. That's falls back on the number one reason that I gave them a phone in the first place. To call me if they have an emergency or need anything. That's why I pay the bill. If you don't raise idiots then you really have nothing to worry about. I don't have to check their phones all the time. I know they aren't doing it. They stand to lose a lot if I catch them doing it and they understand the dangers of it as well. It's not hard to raise smart kids. You have to be willing to be a parent though.

Sounds and looks like you had a great time.
  15. Just keep in mind that you have to walk in someone else's shoes before you really understand their judgment of things. Even though I knock heads with Wrench on this type of thing on a regular basis I also understand where he is coming from. I too have been critical of the amount of fundraisers for Pearson. It's not that I don't think he's deserving, but there are a whole lot of people out there that are deserving that we just completely ignore day after day. Most of them children. Where is the support for them? It sucks what happened to him though.
  16. A couple of weeks ago I saw a guy down the street from me driving his Tahoe way too fast down our street and he was texting. Or maybe he was just dialing a number but either way he wasn't looking where he was going. This guy is also my insurance agent. I see a discount coming.
  17. February and March are really good too. I love that lake at the end of March. It's my favorite place. I've never had or seen a problem with other boaters. But it's always been in Feb or March so there were no big tournaments going on.
  18. The commercials leading up to the show had mentioned that it was fake but they are always pulling this kind of stuff. Even shark week is turning into a joke. You don't know whether to believe any of it or not.
  19. We should have a tournament where that is the only thing you can use.

  21. I don't remember ever having a problem with any landowner on any river while camping. Had one on the Eleven Point come down and check on us one night but I think he just wanted to hang around the campfire.
  22. If you are stuck on the bank Shelvin or Kerr is a lot better.
  23. I think on every lake that I have ever fished I have always ran towards the creeks and rivers. Heck there are some lakes that I have fished dozens of time and have no idea what the dam even looks like. Except on Stockton. I love the dam area.
