Muddy water? Whats working? Almost CAM tourney time!
duckydoty replied to JestersHK's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Water has about 10 foot of visibility today. Sculpin an ginger has been working good. Dark colors still working too. Micros under a float may be a good choice this weekend. -
I trolled upper K Dock for one pass over the two upper cuts before Phil arrived and picked up 2 bass, one keeper crappie, one short crappie, one blue gill, and 2 whites. Now all that was in about 15-20 minutes. We should have went back to that, but I wanted to check some things out down the lake. We tried trolling again later in the day after the sun came out and only caught one stinking bass.

Albright is what I use also

We had a fun day on the lake today without many other boats out there. We put in at K Dock around 7 this morning and fished till 3. Boated up to Snap and started working the roll off from the bluff to just past the cut with mega bass. Picked up a couple stinking bass and my sister, Jen was pretty proud of this one. I told her to hurry up and toss it back so we could get back to fishing for target species. We picked up a couple big whites up there before we decided to try jigs in the brush piles. picke up 4 or 5 short crappies on the brush piles and the decided to try trolling flicker shad. Picked up a couple keeper crappie on the edge of the roll offs but was marking more fish up shallower. Caught most fish going with the wind staying in 13-15 feet of water going 1.7 mph. Had several double hook ups today. We caught 5 walleye with 2 being keepers, 15 keeper crappie and 7-8 shorts, 3 big whites, one giant quill back, and 8-10 of them bass and a blue gill. Fun day with my sister on the water.

Bass pro sells a cheap red speed bag. Super easy to pull bolts out of. I also make one shot a season with broad head just to check

Fished Snap from crack of light this morning till the wind started blowing. Most bites came before the sun peaked over the bluff. Caught a 24 inch walleye, one short eye, 4 big crappie, a nice blue gill and 3 stinking bass. Had two other fish on that were pulling real good, but they didn't make it to the boat. Casting mega bass 110+1's up on the flat and jerking them back in. walleye was full of eggs. Water temps from 54-56. -
My wife has the Horton Storm RDX and I have the Tenpoint Stealth FX4. I like the compactness of the Horton and the balanced feel with the reverse draw. Makes the crossbow feel lighter when shouldered. The acu draw on both is awesome. I can crank it with 2 fingers. I like shooting the Tenpoint Stealth better though. A little more thump in it and accurate out of the box at 50 yards. I'm shooting carbon bolts and the cross hairs line up at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards. My wife shoots aluminum bolts and her crosshairs end up being 20, 25, 30, and 35 yards. Bass Pro catalog return room in Springfield is loaded with crossbows right now at 40-50 percent off original price. Most of them were display models from last years models that are sent in and gone over then sold as reconditioned. That is where my wife and I got ours last year. The have several models of Ten Point and the Horton Storm RDX right now. Go check them out if you get a chance

C.A.M. Benefit Scheduled April 8th on Taneycomo
duckydoty replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
This is a really fun tournament for a great cause. It's a numbers game. (Ham). Hope some of you guys will sign up for it and join in on the fun. Phil's smoked chicken and jalapeño baked bean lunch are worth the entry fee! All the fish catching and seeing friends on the water are free fun. -
Caught them just off the roll off from 7 feet to 20 feet of water

I am mainly familiar with western Alaska, Bristol Bay region. Most of the lodges in that area are fishing oriented. For a family trip to see Alaska, Anchorage and the Kenai area can give you a great taste of what Alaska has to offer. I've always wanted to take the train ride from Seward to Denali. There are glacier cruises available in the Kenai region. Gold panning opportunities, halibut trips and a day trip over to brooks for bear veiwing is readily available. Pricing in the Bristol Bay region will run from as little at $2500 per week per person (not including airfare) for a rough fishing camp to places like Crystal Creek Lodge that cost $10,000 per week per person. You can spend as much as you want in Alaska

Recommendations on a big fly rod
duckydoty replied to JestersHK's topic in General Angling Discussion
In Alaska we typically issued Orvis H2 9 ft 8 weights for all salmon fishing except kings. 8's were perfect for chum, and silvers, but a little heavy on the sockeye and pinks. Jump up to 10 wt for kings. A good reel with good drag is vital. Palming a reel has lost many a fish in Alaska. Not near as precise as a modern disk drag system. Take several fly lines from floating, streamer tip, 150 grain and 250 grain sinking lines to cover many water conditions. I probably have 3000 salmon flies from Alaska tucked away. I would be more than happy to depart with a few hundred of them as my donation to the cause. Spey rods are a great way to catch salmon if you have been thinking about jumping into that aspect of fishing. Little bit of a learning curve on casting, but if I figured it out, anyone can. I've found 9 ft fly rods typically work best when fly fishing from the bank or boat. Most salmon stick pretty close to the bank while migrating up the rivers in Alaska. I have caught 40+ pound kings on 5 weights, but would not recommend perusing them with that. A day of pinks on a 5 weight is a lot of fun mixed with a little bit of a challenge. Big silvers will push the limits of an 8 wt and a seven wt is just about perfect for sockeye. Chum are a good way to put a bend in a rod while looking for silvers. -
Yeah, that was Buster

Lots of water... big trout responding
duckydoty replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
The fish was released about 4:30 this afternoon. It stayed up right for about 3 hours and would spook if you got close. Phil video taped the release and he swam off great. Congratulations to Steve! -
We change about 7 props a week at the resort

Great pictures. I hunted Schell Monday with three others and we goose egged it. I've been debating on wether or not I want one more doe for the freezer or just start chasing walleye and crappie full time.

That's funny!

Got to fish with a buddy from Boy Scouts and high school this afternoon. He and his family come down to Lake Taneycomo every year for the week after Christmas. They have been doing so for over 40 years now. He asked me for some tips earlier in the week and I suggested 1/16 black jigs. On Wednesday , Ron told me he fished the jigs for a day and a half only catching one trout. I told him I needed to show him how to fish jigs and asked him if he could fish Friday afternoon. We met up at Lilley's at 2:30 and headed up to the trophy area. Ron had never fished up in that area by boat with the water off. I showed him how to navigate through the Narrows up to Lookout. There were a couple of guide bouts and a couple of fishing boats from the Narrows to Lookout and a bunch of wade fishermen all around Lookout and Point Royal. We started just below Lookout and while I was explaining how I was fishing the jig, I caught one on the first cast. Then one on the second cast. Ron caught one on his third cast after a few corrections in his retrieve method, then we doubled up a couple of cast later. The water was off, The sun was bright, and the wind was blowing pretty hard. We picked up quite a few fish along the bluff. About half way down the bluff, I turn on the big motor and we ran down to the Narrows. Fished through there picking up a few fish with another double. Motored again to just above Fall Creek and made a few cast, both of us picking up a couple of fish. Ron wanted to keep a few and I wanted one small one for Harvey, so just as the sun went down we motored to the boat ramp flats above Short Creek. We both caught quite a few there that were slurping midges in the shallow water. I believe Ron has mastered the jig now. It was fun to visit, and fish with a friend from a long time ago. We both agreed to make it a yearly thing. Looking forward to fishing with Ron again next year!

I made 3 casts yesterday and caught 1 trout. Can't remember much before that.

Very impressive numbers Ham. I really do loose count after 2, sometimes 3.

They get me so excited when they bite, reeling them in hoping for a walleye. When I see it....HUGE letdown.

Tried trolling the K Dock to up above Snapp area looking for walleye with my MonaChari today. Trolled a-rigs with a flicker shad behind the middle arm staying in 18-25 fow going 1.3-1.7 mph. Picked up a 3 pound largemouth right off the bat just above kdock. We ran 4 rods out of the boat and picked up 4 big whites, 3 more bass a small striper, and a gar on the next set of flats between kdock and Snapp. Fished brush piles for awhile on Snapp with swimming minnows and caught 4 keeper crappie and 20 shorts. Went back to trolling above the power lines and caught 3 more bass ranging from 2-4 pounds. Again, no walleye. Lots of boats on the water today and the k dock parking lot was full. Great way to spend the day with my wife enjoying the weather.
