Scary stuff there. Glad they weren't hurt. Lot of times people get knocked out or get concussions when their heads slam up against the gunnels, dash or other parts of the boat. At least ONE boat stopped to check on them....sheesh.

I run 15lb Big Game on my Dobyns Fury where I am using hard swimbaits, A-Rigs and Ploppers. Good stuff. But if you are wanting the best of both world's in a good co-poly the P-Line CXX is awesome for the bigger diameter stuff. I have it on a couple of setups and have been super happy with it.

Boy you sure speek purdy for an Arkiesaw redneck. Ware you lerned to talk like dat? Well done sir. Just a great read and report. Weren't willing to throw that newly minted Hughesy jerker between those sparse trees in the 3rd pic? Weenie.

See, I'm the other way. Seinfeld is creatively humorous whereas Big Bang is a cheap laugh. To me at least. Certainly a following for both shows and nothing wrong with that.

It's a Pure Fishing brand under the Newell Brands umbrella. Pure fishing will be gutted and some of those fishing brands (like Berkley) will just have to take it on the chin. Unfortunately that means layoffs and less sponsorships in the name of saving the all mighty dollar and boosting the parent company's bottom line. Aside from that the line market has become extremely competitive the last decade or so. For so long the only two players in the game were essentially Stren and Berkley Trilene. So many good lines now and Berkley just really hasn't kept up with the times IMO. Trilene XL, XT, Fireline and Big Game are/were staples but that isn't enough to retain or even gain consumers. Seaguar, Sunline, P-Line and various others are just putting out better stuff and it seems like Berkley is content to just sit there and stand pat (Except for Ham's beloved Nanofil). That's usually not a successful business plan.

Do fisherman fall for the latest and greatest aka "The Hype". Sure. But just like anything else there are advancements in manufacturing processes, materials and technologies that enhance the performance of a product. Sometimes a baby step, sometimes a quantum leap. Is there a massive difference between fluoro and mono? Not in my opinion. But there IS A DIFFERENCE which can lead to more bites, more solid hooksets and in the end more fish in the boat. Isn't that the goal when you launch your boat? Fluoro sinks, mono floats. Fluoro is low stretch, mono is more elastic. Transparency in the water between the two is debatable. Depending on the situation those features between the two lines can, and do, play a large role in how successful you are in the way your bait is presented. Lotta ways to skin a cat when fishing but some tools and equipment are just better suited for the task than others. I am not willing to miss out on a memorable day fishing, or perhaps, a fish of a lifetime because I want to scrimp to save $100 a year on fishing line.

I've had no problems with the Red Label. It's not as supple as the Invizx but I like it. Got a spool of the Top Knot from Yozuri in 10# but have yet to spool it up. Hopefully it's good because the price is right .

16 feet on those I believe.

Yeah right. Peeping Tom....Mann.

How did you get access to Dave's Nedside Kamasutra Book?
-
That could work. But what I gathered from the video the bait maker will be fishing with the host of the show. So it's one boat at a time spread out over the course of a few months or so. I kinda like where you are going though Dave. A tournament where you have to fish your one bait and that bait only the entire tournament against others doing the same.
-
I like the premise of the idea but yeah....kinda hard to compare a baits effectiveness vs one another. At time of fishing you will have varying weather conditions, seasonal patterns, water level, locations, fishing pressure, person representing their baits fishing skill level, etc, etc, etc, can't really be leveled across the field for the competition. Not knocking the format or idea as it will be in good fun, just hard to crown a true champion bait.
-
Not down there so I don't know the exact conditions but be sure that you wear your life jacket at all times. 40 degree water temps and 40 MPH winds can get someone in trouble in a hurry. Stay safe. Oh yeah and make sure the troller batteries are good and charged.

With the warm wind howling I'd be throwing a jerkbait, blade bait (spinnerbait or A-Rig) or a wiggle wart. You seem to have the touch with the wiggle wart so maybe start with that. Will be a chore to stay in the wind and fight it but that is where the fish will be.

I was at the Collinsville Show as well yesterday. Only went home with some "Ultimate Shad's" that were $5 for a few of them. They are similar to the banjo minnow as you fish them weightless and nose/head hook them. Figured I'd give a local STL'ien some love and donate. Could work okay in the dying shad seasons. Might throw it when I have the jerkbaits out. Something different anyhow. One booth had the BuCoo SR's on sale for $79.99 and I fiddled with them. REALLY wanted to get one but the wife gave me the Lorena Bobbitt eyes and I had to put it back on the rack. Played around with the new LiveTarget Gizzard Shad with the Huddleston style tail. Pretty neat little bait but kinda pricey for what it is.

I assume Dave's/Duke's Prescription Ned Header's are the #1 seed in the West bracket?

One of my favorite movies. Also, one of my favorite movie quotes to use with buddies.

Boy I think I am going to have to phone a friend and ask Dave. I know Strike King in the 80s or early 90s tried to get in on the handmade wood/balsa deal. They look similar to Bagleys but even more like the Lee Sisson wooden cranks. Those don't appear to be them. I'm stumped.
-
Should be able to tell that right away by either the weight of the bait or the rattle/no rattle. Or just knowing the model and make will let you know what it's made of.
-
When the rocks start pulling back, you've got one. But seriously only time on the water will really get someone keyed in on what is a bite vs crashing into cover/rocks. I remember the first time I went "bass fishing" with my grandpa who threw nothing but Texas rigged worms and grubs. It was quite the learning curve on what was a bite vs hitting rocks on the bottom.

No, but Okuma has a pretty good reputation in making quality gear in the rod and reel market. I am a fan of the Falcon BuCoo and they just came out with an updated model the BuCoo SR. Not sure what the SR stands for but they have upgraded the guides to the same Fuji guides they use on their Lowrider series and also added a carbon fiber wrap at the butt section of the rod. The upgrades made the rod lighter apparently (was already feathery light in previous models) and yet remains at the same price point ($100-110). I think it may officially be impossible now to beat that rod for 100 clams in a rod with a nice blank and sporting all Fuji components. Really want to get one but my rod rack is already busting at the seams and my head might be busted with a frying pan by wifey if I purchase anymore gear......that she knows about.

Not too early for the A-Rig. If they are on a jerkbait they should be on a grub, soft swimbait or A-Rig bite.
-
People love the balsa stuff but I never did get into it. Couple things I don't like is that it's a fragile wood and so light that it makes casting difficult. Plus they charge an arm and a leg now for hand made balsa baits.
