    What's Cooking?

Ness- You did it yourself and I'm sure your pizza tasted great. Remember, you are in Missouri, cooking outside on a grill. Probably not using flour grown and milled in your backyard. With an oven that's been around for generations. Make your pizza, not a reproduction of a pie from that special cafe in Naples (BTW, there ARE burned edges on Italian pizzas. It's business as usual over there. We admire it. It's "authentic" and "rustic.") Don't call it burned. Start smoking cigarettes, use less deodorant, act more aloof, yet more demonstrative, and think about a casual affair. Your transformation will be reflected in your spectacular pizzas. At your new bachelor condo after being kicked out of your home.
  2. Whatever it is, its a little fish. I'm quite sure it put up a spirited fight and you were glad to catch it. Little. Fish.
  3. "...the 15-17 inchers sure seemed alot more plentiful (and stupid). " When.." in the 70's the rivers were a mess. Literally." Judging by anecdotal stories, again, fishing apparently was better in days of yore without regulation and do gooder interference on how to make fishing great. Seems to me that the more attention and altruistic meddling we do to "improve" fishing, is, actually, having the unintended and opposite effect of creating a sub species of dissatisfied fishermen who lament the past, and refuse to be appeased ,or satisfied with, our government ,and the way they manage our fishing resources. Just stop it. Go fishing. Show us pictures (not food, not fly rods on grass). We have a bounty of waters that have smallmouth bass in them. And we can go get them any time we want. Yet....Whatever. Bob's your uncle and Donald Trump is your president. I fish. Let me brag again with pictures of fish that are in our streams and anybody, anywhere, can get on our lovely streams and catch.
  4. It's ironic that, apparently, fishing was better years ago without regulation, and now, that's all we talk about to make fishing better. Then again, I was younger and skinnier and unmarried and happier years ago too.

    The Card!

So pragmatic! "We're above all that romance stuff and forced Hallmark holiday." "Our love runs much deeper than red roses!" "Oh,don't do anything special for me...." "We show our love 365 days a year, we don't need Valentines Day!" Go ahead, pat yourself on the back for having the good sense and intestinal fortitude in not caving in to societal pressure. Congratulations! Deep down, though, she secretly wishes you would actually DO something, ANYTHING, other than business as usual. Oh, she'll put on a brave face and laugh it off. She is used to being disappointed. After all, she CHOSE YOU. So, act like she is the love of your life and do something that shows it, up your romantic game, and be the husband hero, at least for a day.
  6. Hmm. I thought I some temps on other streams via USGS jump up into the 50s.
  7. Any idea about the water temperature? I'm figuring the river has to be very low right now. More importantly, nice fish Master HogW!
  8. Or, just say how much you have to spend. Makes it easier to make recommendations.
  9. Best and cheapest in the same sentence? And people are mentioning Simms and getting separate wading boots? Just buy Cabelas or Redhead bootfoot waders for less than a hundred. You wanted cheap. These will work.
  10. Give it a rest fellas. Go fishing. Be happy. The streams are still there. The fish are still there, We still have so many accesses and hundreds and hundreds of miles of public water to fish. I catch big fish every year. Apparently, so does HogWally. Have you seen his pictures? Good grief. That's just on the Meramec, an hour from St. Louis. You and many others catch nice fish all over Missouri. Sure, it takes work and skill and knowing where to go. But that's just it. IT, is out there, ready to be used. I'm not naive. I'm well aware of the issues that face us Ozark stream anglers. I agree we must be ever vigilant to protect and advocate for our resource. Yet, I sometimes think that we are always griping about one thing or another (government and private landowners are favorite targets), instead of actually going out and enjoying and extolling to everyone all the possibilities that ARE available to us. Take a break from the hand wringing over size limits and spend more time planning Ozark fishing trips, whether there is a management area on your desired stream or not. Fishing is fun. I love it.

    What's Cooking?

A well smoked brisket should reach an internal temperature of 190 degrees. Many cooks wrap the meat in foil when it gets to 160 degrees, then it goes back to the smoker for more low and slow until it reaches 190. Pretty much the standard. You'll have a nice crispy bark on the outside, and tender flavorful meat on the inside. Costco sells prime brisket, which has the right amount of fat cap. Trim judiciously. When done, let rest for at least an hour, and slice perpendicular to the "grain."

    Didn't answer my question.

    What's Cooking?

    Do you see squash there?

    What's Cooking?

What for? Eat spaghetti, as in pasta. Squash. It sucks balls, but we must use it. It is American. It is in our gardens. It has an underdog quality to it. Therefore, we must make "use" of it and, like ancient grains (amaranth), include it in our diet, because, well because, because, IT"S OLD, It HAS to be good. Anything OLD has to be BETTER than now, right? It tastes like nothing and has seeds. Which makes it all the more attractive to young tattooed chefs. They invented the fact that food comes from farms. "Farm to Table." Squash. "Because i had to grow it." No. Squash sucks and everyone knows it. We don't like it. Quit trying to sell us on "SQUASH."
  16. So, I shouldn't bring my pole tomorrow? Rats. I guess I'll go downtown to the boat show.
  17. "get togethers" "film some footage" "we had a great time" "Scott and I will laugh" "learned from watching Aaron" "we may share on here eventually" "Mitch and Paul can join in on the fun" "one of these days we'll get together" "what a great guy you are" "always game" "I feel the same way" "a few more holes" Frankly, I am appalled at the subliminal sub text you guys are flaunting. I, we, as forum users, shouldn't have to be assaulted by your sordid behaviors, especially on a fishing forum. I respectfully ask you to take your tawdry lifestyle to the nearest pink tree house and leave it there.

    Favorite Movies

MM mmh!. Great scenes, every one. Here's one Mr Wichita, not a classic, but I love Michael Shannon eviscerating middle class Leo and Kate:
  19. "Get me off this sign, I wanna catch fish!"
  20. (12) Prohibits the Department of Natural Resources from implementing any portion of the federal rule to revise or provide guidance on the definition of "waters of the United States" or "navigable waters" under the Clean Water Act and specifies that no federal agency may make a determination or designate any watercourse within the state as navigable. This is about states rights and divorcing certain federal laws from the sovereignty of Missouri. All the other stuff is moot if (12) doesn't happen.
  21. You didn't say that it leaks. Does it?

    CRAZY

I was wrong, of course. Apparently a male torso. Still.

    CRAZY

I don't think this is a weapon or conceal and carry issue. Some ones daughter (probably) was murdered and then dismembered and burned in a public place. Its not about you and your weapon. Yet another sad story with a predictable ending.

It takes a village to raise a dumpling.
