We have more than one picture of past catches posed on a snow or sleet covered boat deck. Sleet hurts and hail is definitely a bummer, but fishing in the snow can be fun. No fish in this pic - Champ has most of those on his phone - but this was last February 9. Eagle Rock, I think.
  3. And I'm bringing tater salad unless Bill and Phil tell me no. Already had planned to make a big batch and stow in the ice chest until grub time.
  4. Bill, I'm making a big homemade potato salad to stow in an ice chest. We'll trailer over for the social and bring the taters.
  5. Thanks for sharing, Phil. Interesting stuff.
  6. I know. Nuts, right? We were bored and kept seeing fish under us. It does take a little while for the Ned to get down there, but it wasn't too bad. Seemed like dropshotting.
  7. Oh, that's right. Sorry, Bill. I was seeing Elias. For some reason I have always confused Rowland and Elias.
  8. Oh, I remember that. I thought it was Elias and Swindle. Swindle charged over there to Elias without bothering to pull his trolling motor and pitched a fit. Elias was super cool about it.
  9. Even Henry wants an S-Waver.
  10. For some reason this just tickled me. Day we fished close to home. Returning from our short trip and picking up supper fixins' parked in front of a snow mound.
  11. According to Ashley's comments after winning the Classic, he could not get bit on his brush piles and is why he went to the spinhead his dad made tipped with the Super Fluke Jr. catching 20 lbs today slowing crawling it across the bottom.
  12. Roman bread and circuses - A phrase used by a Roman writer ... “Two things only the people anxiously desire — bread and circuses.” The government kept the Roman populace happy by distributing free food and staging huge spectacles. Many people are likely there for the show and the freebies. How many true lovers of bass or the sport of bass fishing do you think are at the show? This is about drawing big crowds and marketing product. I enjoy watching the actual weigh-in and listening to the pros (live coverage is great, too), but the rest of it is over the top, in my opinion. Each to his own, I guess, but not my cup of tea.
  13. Champ knows I had several Compre rods break ON A CAST a foot from the tip and just as many swinging short fish. I've been taught well and know how to swing a fish, but those Compre rods just like to snap there.
  14. Open will be here in October, but don't know of any in the spring.
  15. He seems to get in frenzy mode when he's not catching them. Not the first time I've noticed this. Deep breaths.
  16. Well said.
  17. Powroznik has moved up on the leaderboard. I'd like to see Howell win back-to-back, but I wouldn't root against Powroznik either. Was fortunate to draw him in the FLW at Beaver earlier in his career. Super nice guy. Can flat bed fish. Let me tell you what a good guy he is. Trying to stay out of his way and make sure I didn't do anything to interfere with what he had going on. I finally catch a small spot and I'm measuring him. Having trouble deciding if he stretched. Without being asked, he stopped fishing and jumped down in the bottom of the boat. He flipped that fish a couple of times and fanned its tail until he was comfortable it reached before he went back to fishing. He was bedfishing in some serious cover and I didn't have many opportunities, but I got to go to the weigh-in of an FLW tournament with a keeper fish because of him. He even directed me to the bump board and stopped with me to measure the fish one more time before we went to the scales. Really fun watching it live. Hope I get to see the big Pow on video.
  18. Good post. The tackle part. Nolan Richardson called it 40 minutes of hell. Anderson calls it the fastest 40 minutes.
  19. I'm wearing Typhoons at the moment and can't wait to get back in Costas. I know some of the pros are singing the praises of the Typhoons, but I don't care for them. Not nearly as sturdy as the Costas and the optics aren't as good.
  20. Thanks, Fishrman. We'll check it out.
  21. They are. Champ188 and I are planning to fish them. Think the first one is March 21. Trying to figure out a place to stay nearby. Nothing fancy. Bed, hot water and place to park the boat and trailer with electricity.
  22. QB, guess you need to watch the boat docks and other distinguishing features in your photos or ol' eagle-eyes like Bo will figure out your spots. Lol. Nice fish and good report. Thanks. We're headed out shortly. Champ says Shell Knob today.
  23. Referencing Champ188's post, a swim bait is an option, as well, if you don't want to go full-out with an A-rig. I like to parallel the bluffs out of the back of the boat (weedless rig) and run as close to any standing timber I see, regardless of the direction I'm casting. Bluff ends are usually the hot spot and I cast across them as we are approaching and make one or two more flings back across the ends as we are pulling away. The advantage of being a ,"co-angler." It's easy to experiment with depth, letting the swim bait fall on varying counts before beginning a slow, steady retrieve. My favorite swim bait on the Rock is the Keitech Fat Swim Impact 3.8".
  24. 'Cos when you got good stuff you don't have to add annoying side effects.
  25. I'm thinking Champ should have ordered some body armor or at least a helmet since wifey-poo will be hurling away with a new rod nearly twice as tall as me. I swear, his current delirium (spooning, FLOAT N FLY rods) has nothing, absolutely NOTHING to do with a swim bait in the ear.
