  1. Seems to be a good year for good sized crappie and that is not a bad thing.
  2. Must be the long range version. Woman was scraping it off with a knife. But who the heck expects to find a Japanese mortar shell when digging in their garden? Missouri couple discovers live World War II era Japanese bomb in their yard (nbcnews.com)
  3. Don't rain on my parade. ⛈️☂️ (Dang there are a lot of emojis to choose from).
  4. Good deal - did you see any striper activity? Didn't see much at all around Indian Creek.
  5. I'm hoping I can make it to 80 physically (and mentally) fit enough to get my boat in the water and fish.
  6. Well you did it now, 4 days of rain starting Saturday.
  7. Caught this dude in one of the Bella Vista lakes today. Got snagged on a brush pile, got over it to pull it off, and lo and behold it's off the snag and there's a fish on. Thought it was another brainless bass, but turned out to be this dude, which I believe is a warmouth. If so, by far the biggest one I have ever caught. Species guys feel free to weigh in. Could've done a better job with the pic. But here it is:
  8. Man I can't stand the smell of cigarettes, which is good for those times I think of picking up a pack. So glad I quit. Cost is outrageous too, and it's all tax, I give the govt. enough money as it is.
  9. In my little world the people I see swerving out of their lane are generally messing with a phone. I am not a late night hoot owl anymore so I generally don't see drinkers on the road.
  10. My issue with the TRD is the lack of salt content. Some of the Zinkerz are pretty salty, I like to stretch them out, get the salt out and you end up with something that is very foamy, floats well, and will move with very little rod movement. I think it really helps in the winter when I am fishing it really slow. Maybe doesn't matter as much when the water is warm and the fish are more aggressive.
  11. I really haven't noticed any difference myself, but this sounds like something that needs further research..
  12. Launched at 6 AM into the fog. Fish were biting right away, pretty much an early bite, the fog cleared off around 9 AM, then there was a period of time where there were bluebird skies and no wind and that nice weather seemed to put them off. Saw shad spawning on one 50 yard stretch of bank and had a couple of big gizzards chase one of the smallmouth I caught to the boat which they will do sometimes when spawning. Caught most of my fish shallow, from the looks of the smallies I caught, they appear to be done spawning. Caught them on 2.8 Keitechs, and a bait called a "Dartspin" - kind of a fluke with a willow blade tail spin. You can look them up on Tackle Warehouse if you want. Both walleyes came on the Dartspin. Total for the morning was 16 smallies (5 keepers), a couple of just over 18" keeper walleye, and a couple of chunky whites. Water is stained green, maybe 5 feet or so of viz. Quite a bit of floating debris, it was especially bad at the mouth of the Indian creek arm, took one look at it and decided not to go up there. WT 64-65
  13. Gone for me too - I'll PM Phil.
  14. Got another one this week. I moved up 4 places last week, watch out fellas!
  15. I don't know anyone locally unfortunately. I have used this place several times, they've always done a good job. Usually a fairly long turn around, might be 3-4 weeks before you get your reel back. I'd contact them first to make sure they can work on that model. Delaware Valley Tackle - Home
  16. Roaring River State Park heavily impacted by flooding, camping and angling opportunities temporarily impacted Flooding forces evacuation of park's campgrounds and restricts access to some fishing areas. JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 30, 2021 – Due to recent record flooding in the park and surrounding area, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has temporarily closed the campgrounds at Roaring River State Park. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will continue to allow fishing, though angler access may be restricted in some areas due to flood clean-up efforts. Flood damage will also impact the ability of MDC staff to stock fish in certain locations. If the floodwater recedes to safe levels and cleanup goes well, the park’s campgrounds may open as early as Sunday, May 2. However, park staff will know more as the cleanup progresses and may have to move back the campground opening date accordingly. Missouri State Parks has notified everyone who had camping reservations through the night of May 1 about the campground closure. The park’s campgrounds and fishing areas were quickly and safely evacuated early April 28 after heavy overnight rains caused severe flash flooding on the Roaring River and area waterways. While flash flooding is not uncommon in the area, this was the first time floodwater reached the park’s office. Due in large part to the recently completed renovations at MDC’s Roaring River Hatchery, hatchery staff reported minimal loss of fish inventory.
  17. looks like the Kings is running at 25,000 CFS, that's a lot for a small river.
  18. A few years ago Beaver had a big rise, I was fishing back in the Indian creek arm and there were big patches of leaf litter floating in the main channel. The carp were coming up and feeding on that stuff. If a guy could figure out some kind of leaf imitating fly, there was fun to be had. Dunno if the same thing will happen on TR this weekend.
  19. Good to hear they are going to start moving some of this water out, long range forecast showed more rain possible next week, but nothing about whether it will amount to much. Evening news showed the precip totals over the region and the worst of it was around the Fayetteville area stretching NE. Beaver is really coming up fast, would not surprise me if they start dumping water out of Beaver. Little Sugar is way out of its banks, but that drains to Grand. It will mess up some of the golf courses here.
  20. And why not let them whack some flying carp (geese)? Way too many of those things around here.
  21. Might be able to shoot out of tree stands if the water gets up high enough. They've got some out of bounds areas around some of the big docks and even a few coves, tourist fed carp are probably safe.
  22. This rain may really mess up the Kings river arm, that arm will fill up with floating wood and it is very difficult to get through. Otherwise the Viola ramp is a good one to use on the Kings and it has a courtesy dock. You could also go a bit further on 86 to Eagle Rock to access the upper White, courtesy dock there too.
  23. Didn't know that, maybe trying to keep Beaver at 1120?
  24. Looks like they are releasing water through the floodgates?
