  1. Dock, that is pretty impressive - congrats!
  2. Maybe you folks have heard about Cher Ami, the pigeon that brought a message out from the "Lost Battalion" during WWI. The bird is on display at the Smithsonian. Cher Ami - Wikipedia
  3. Last year a warden checked us on the water near Big M, we happened to have an 18.5" walleye and he measured it. He said that he had been keeping an eye on the walleye fishermen that spring.
  4. That is pretty neat. When you get into a competition, let me know if you don't mind, I'd like to see one of those.
  5. That is pretty neat. So when you say competitions, are they homing pigeons?
  6. This was from Jonathan Stein at AGFC, it is from 2 year ago: It has been several years since we stocked Walleye in the Kings or White rivers and the few times that we have, it was surplus Walleye. These populations are doing very well naturally. The biologist from Missouri has sampled the James River arm of Table Rock and came up to help us on the Kings and White rivers. The numbers of Walleye that run into these rivers is incredible. We collected 251 Walleye per hour a couple of nights ago on the Upper White River out of the Highway 45 Bridge (Beaver Lake Twin Bridges Access). On the Kings River, we have collected over 350 per hour and see some trophy fish. Our sampling method (electrofishing) does not collect every fish. We only get a small sample of the Walleye that are there (if we collect 75 in 10 minutes, we are probably missing another 75). We cannot net fast enough to collect all the fish. We have seen similar numbers in the White below Beaver Lake. Also, we have observed fish that were 14 lbs. These high catch rates are corresponding with the increased popularity of the Walleye fishery in the spring. Stocking at this point is not needed in these river arms and Walleye are doing very well on their own. Thanks for the question and if you have any others, please let me know.
  7. Sorry to hear that, but we'll be there if you change your mind.
  8. I have always wondered about that, why not run the generators flat out instead of spilling water through the floodgates.
  9. Glad that guy got out of there, bet that water comes up fast when those gates open.
  10. I think that would be a good idea, go back to stocking walleye fingerlings on an annual basis.
  11. We're still on, the forecast I see says a chance of showers after noon. Breezy, temps rising into the 50's - could be some good fishing!
  12. Fished one of the Bella Vista lakes this afternoon and at the ramp there is a fish cleaning station and a couple of guys were cleaning fish so I walked over to see what they had. They had just come back from the upper White and had a few white bass and one walleye. They've been fishing the walleye run up there for years and they were saying they have never seen the amount of pressure they are seeing now. Houseman and Holiday island parking is full with people parking on the road. Bank to bank boats. And there's a walleye tourney this weekend. put on by one of the resorts up there, 1st place is $1K so they'll probably get some participation. Walleye tourneys are not catch and release. I don't know if long term the walleye can handle this kind of pressure. I guess we'll find out.
  13. Yep, they told me they targeted them around March 15.
  14. That's pretty neat. My SE MO grandad used gold Aberdeen hooks for his minnows when he crappie fished. Fly rod, cork, split shot and a minnow about 2-3 feet under the cork. He'd dip and drag that rig around trees and cypress knees. I did it too when fishing with him, except I had a cane pole. It was so much fun as a 10 year old seeing that cork get pulled down.
  15. Looks very clean, congrats!
  16. Very disappointing loss to Kentucky at home. Can't hit threes, can't hit layups, can't shoot free throws. A couple of the guys that were projected as 1st round NBA picks aren't even close to being ready to play in the NBA.
  17. It's just background noise from a spinner bait fisherman, jealousy makes them mean. 😀 And that reminds me, I have a copy of Spinnerbaits for Dummies that I will give him next time I see him. He'll find it full of useful info.
  18. Way to go Lance, nice bunch of crappie!
  19. The Kings river gauge, located in Berryville, jumped from 1,000 CFS to 16,000 CFS and it is still rising.
  20. Got checked for the first time in Arkansas after 15 years of fishing here. Been checked 4 or 5 times on Table Rock. Have not had any issues.
  21. This is the time of the year that you have a shot at a really good bass.
  22. Speaking of Spro jerkers, they have come out with a +1 version. And they have it in Blue Bandit. I have not fished one yet. Lately I stink at fishing jerkbaits, used to kill them on jerkers but I have lost my mojo.
  23. That's a great day, congrats!
  24. Hawgs have to win this one, or they may not be dancing later this month unless they win the SEC tourney. I didn't know Mizzou was seeded so high, but good for them, I'll be rooting for them in the Big Dance unless they are playing against some of my other favorites.
  25. I use Maxima Ultragreen also. Used to use 8lb and sometimes 6 lb. when fishing for summer steelhead. Never had any issues with it. Used it trolling for king salmon, 17 lb. test and again no issues. I use it for top water striper fishing (15 lb.) on Beaver. And I use it for any bass fishing where I use mono. It is good mono.
