  1. Launched at 0600, it was a little cold, felt nice. Warmed up quickly however, by 9AM with no wind out there it was getting toasty. Today I fished jigs all morning. Got some good reports of some solid fish being caught on jigs, so I fished them. Got quite a few bites, real light bites, but there were some that wanted that jig and would hit it three or four times until I hooked them. Missed a lot more than I hooked, but at the end of the morning I had 13 in the boat with 3 keepers. The fish bit from when I started until 9 AM or so, then it got real slow. I caught my biggest bass of the day at about 1030 right before I left. It was on a bluff end right across from Big M. One of those one more cast before I go fish. Fish were deep and scattered, caught them on gravel in 20-30 FOW, dragging jigs on the bottom. 1/2 oz Green Pumpkin jig with a craw trailer. Got checked by the warden. Eagle Rock Tom was close by at the time and got checked too. He asked the warden if he'd seen anyone catching any and the warden mentioned he'd checked a "retired guide" that had a couple of keeper walleye. A bit later I saw a white Phoenix heading towards Shell Knob. Might have been someone we all know. Sure seemed to be a lot of traffic on the road between 86 and Roaring River. Might be a busy weekend. Full moon had the deer out, saw a lot of them on the pre-dawn drive to the lake. Mostly does and fawns. Saw one 6 point buck in the Big M park. Didn't check the WT.
  2. Congrats on the walleye!
  3. Connell hung in there. One of these days when circumstances allow, I plan on doing some traveling and fishing some lakes, will have to put Cayuga on the list.
  4. Haven't watched any until just now. Connell is putting some distance between himself and Wheeler.
  5. Nice fish!
  6. Gulp Minnows, not a bad idea.

  8. Well I armed myself with crawlers and crickets and went out in pursuit of the elusive bluegill. Not quite as bad of a fail as last time, I caught 3 gills big enough to keep and a 10" redear. Picked up 10 spotted bass here and there. Fished a lot of places, just can't find them except a few here and there. Saw Mr. Babler on the lake, he had picked up a few bass early. Seemed to be quite a few fishermen out there today.
  9. Nice one!

    Today's sammich

I'll have to try some apple vinegar on the pork and chicken. If you want to try something different, marinate a steak in 1/3 soy sauce, 1/3 Balsamic vinegar and 1/3 olive oil for about 8 hours then grill it.

Must be some in the family background, we have just about everything.

If you want to try something different on your fried fish, sprinkle some malt vinegar on it.
  13. Nice gill, that is what I will be looking for next time out.
  14. Looks like one to me. Curious if the bass were eating them.
  15. Are you getting any on the Ned? Haven't fished one myself in a while.
  16. I can't help you much there, as much as I fish Beaver, I can't remember going up the Big Clifty arm. My map shows a couple of ramps, one at Hogscald Hollow and another down the arm a ways on the northeast side. They are not COE ramps, my guess is they are single lane ramps without a courtesy dock. Rec traffic will depend on where in the arm you are, if you're way up in the skinny water you probably won't see a whole lot but as you head down the cove towards the main lake, if there is any, that's where you'll see it. It's a good distance from the COE parks to Big Clifty so that ought to cut down on a lot of the rec traffic.
  17. I envy you, I don't know of any good takeout fried chicken places near me.
  18. The dog days of August are upon us.
  19. Could be worth a shot.
  20. Anywhere from 5 to 30 feet. The few that I caught were in about 10 FOW.
  21. Went today armed with a couple dozen redworms and a dozen crawlers, the plan was to catch some gills for the frying pan. I failed miserably when it came to gill catching, caught 3 total. Did some bass fishing off and on, that wasn't going to well either, caught a couple on the drop shot, but things were really slow. Decided I needed to get rid of the crawlers so I put one on a drop shot, threw it up in the place that has been a consistent bass producing spot for me the last month or so, and caught a spotted bass as soon as that crawler touched bottom. Went through that dozen pretty quickly, it was literally a spot per cast. Nothing overly big, but lots of fun on the light gill rod. Once I ran out of crawlers, my catching was done. I'd fished that spot with plastic worms and jigs and if that was all I had done, I would said no bass were there, but they were there and they were all over those crawlers. The fish were in 5 - 15 FOW in a little cut on a gravel bank, Biggest fish was a cat that ate a drop shot Finesse Worm. I was done at 0945, hot, no wind, pleasure boats were emerging. WT 84.

  23. If the old spool had green line then it was most likely Ultragreen, I've been using it for years, it is good stuff.
  24. Got out at daylight today, hung in there until 10 AM. Decided to try some places I haven't fished to start and that was a mistake. Made several stops, had a couple of nibbles, no fish on the sonar, wasted a good two hours of early morning fishing time. Found some at the spot where they've been for the last 2 months, boated 8 spotted bass before it really slowed down. Caught them on a drop shot with Finesse Worm. Saw quite a few gills on the scope, going to be packing some red worms next time out, which might be later this week. WT 84.
  25. Thanks for the info, that is some great fishing you are having. I have been thinking about giving the gills a shot, maybe later this week. Couple that live across the street from my mom both picked up COVID a few days ago, fairly mild also. Hope you and Becky get rid of it soon!
