It was Carter county, and they do have a big population of drunken country boy jetboaters.

Hit the 11 Pt River on Sat. Arrived as a thunderstorm was rolling in. Put the boat in at Whitten and drifted down past Whites Creek waiting to see what weather was going to do. We had caught a few nice fish and realized while looking for a net that the boat had been stripped of net and life jackets. We went back to ramp and picked up some inflatables, the proceeded up river a ways. Fishing was still good, buddy caught a nice 15" rainbow with an attachment, freshwater lamprey, big one. I have seen them before, but not like this 8" feller. We had several more trout during the day. We ended up running up river past Mary Decker Shoals. All trout were nicely colored and finned out. Not having been stocked for a while did not seem to hurt us. Wonderful day till rain caught up to us. Motored down, pulled out, and put back in at Riverton for late afternoon of smallmouth fishing. Weather must have turned the bass off, we could not get anything going with them.

I found it hard to believe that it drowned, looks pretty healthy in photos. Blood out of nose and mouth, probably head trauma from a random jet boat. Curious to see full autopsy. But you seldom see one swimming around unless its a polar bear.

They found one dead a few miles upstream from where we camped a month ago. My buddy asked me if I was packing that nite, silly question. But we were in a remote campsite and thinking of local meth heads. 400 Lb Black Bear Found Dead on Current River. Conversation arose this weekend as we spent time on the 11 Pt River. They had spotted one in Jefferson County near a swing set. Little did we know this one was being dredged out of the river. They are here, they are in the woods, be Bear Aware. Or try and out swim them, looks like they have problems with water.

Life is too short, most of us go sailing thru like we are bulletproof. Then you get grazed by a stray shot and you start looking at things really hard. What could I have done to prevent it from happening. Reality is, outside of obviously dangerous life choices, there are lots of things that can kill us without much warning. You can't go living life cautiously. Live it, enjoy it, cherish it, and pass knowledge along to life you create. I watched a young man skirt death today in a car accident, in my rear view mirror, on the way to the farm to work bees. Ran off the road in a curve that has caused many wrecks in my lifetime and took a few lives. I went back and took him up to cell phone range to make calls. He knew he was drousy and fell asleep for a second, lost control of his company car, took out a sign, went up a steep bank, dodged another sign, then come to rest on the side of the road. Side curtain airbags deployed, the car knew it was about to flip. First thing he saw was a little cross from a person that died there last fall. But all he was worried about was his job. I spent an hour with him in the truck until the Highway Patrol showed up to work the accident scene and let me go. We drove back down and looked at the site. Had he drove another 8" North, the car would have dropped off a concrete culvert and probably flipped. He was a very lucky man today.

Mingo National Wildlife Refuge - Trip Report Added
jdmidwest replied to Flysmallie's topic in Missouri Waters
A sack of frozen peas can cool off a pain. Nice report, you make it look better than it normally is this time of year. You made the right choice and did not stay in the swamp, the local mosquitos would have drained the blood out of you. Its a spring/fall place to fish. Early on, crappie, then bass in the fall on Stanley Creek. Duck Creek main pool can be fished all year, but it is choked out with weeds anymore. They used to spray and kill off lanes to keep some open water to fish, but they have let it grow up. And this area is in kind of a drought right now, not much rain this spring. -
It's a narrow swift spot with a boulder. I have run it in a kayak and made it, but many fail. Good place to sit and watch failures. It draws a crowd. It's been a few years since I have been down that far. It makes for a long day. Lots of long slow holes after Riverside.

Around noon on Sat. The stripper pole was probably in full swing at Dead Man's Curve by that time. That part of the river can be a circus on the weekend. There is a big shelf there that created a falls many years ago. Then they blasted out one side and created Dead Man's curve, big boulder in river that can and will wipe you out. Nature probably made a hole thru the shelf and made the whirlpool. Might have to go and take a look at that next weekend.

Right kind of powered boat for float trippin' in MO?
jdmidwest replied to Dashunde's topic in General Chat
I would buy a short shaft gas motor. Trolling motor would not get you up stream, gas motor might if current not too strong. A 1240 would be small for 3 people and camping gear. You are pushing 400 lbs in body weight. Not sure what the yellow label on the 1240 is rated for. You would be better off getting a few kayaks and float down stream and arrange a shuttle. You would probably have less money in boats and have room to pack like a backpacker for camping. They could be carried on a truck or rv. Most streams have current and riffles that limit upstream progress in a motorized boat unless it is a jet. Then you start talking bigger boat, trailer, motor. They could carry you upstream and have room for camping gear. -

Mingo National Wildlife Refuge - Trip Report Added
jdmidwest replied to Flysmallie's topic in Missouri Waters
I am sorry, been a while since I have been there fishing. The last time I went to Duck Creek main pool was when my best friends dad passed a few years ago. I took him and his two sons out that day in the boat before the viewing and have not been back since. Cancer struck me that fall and I have only been there hunting one hunt since in the fall. It was a place where I went and too many things have changed since, both water and fishing, and partners I used to fish it with. It was a halfway point that we could meet and fish. MDC management has let it grow up with water weeds and fishing declined. Stanley Creek in Mingo was alright, hit or miss. Probably ok right now, but something we did in the fall. You could paddle a canoe up in there and catch some bass or crappie. But it has been 10 years since I have been up into it. The 2 fighting bucks in the center on display were found by Richard and his son on a trip into the Stanley Creek area one fall. Puxico had a bar that served a pretty good sliced BBQ on toast with the usual canned beer variety, nothing special. But its been a while since I have done that. Hope you have a good trip. -
So, how was the water?
-
You don't truly respect me? My daughter has taken 2 bucks and son in law a doe with the 300 BLK out rifles I built. I carried one myself last season because of softer recoil and radiation damaged shoulder. I could not take recoil of my bolt rifle.

I want a removable rack system of some type. Plan on making use of some load bars and Thule yak carriers I have now. I want to carry 4 boats and an inflatable along with gear. Trailer is a low flatbed with no sides and a tilt.
-
I have been looking on the net for ideas, so I thought I would throw it out here. Since the Cancer, my upper body strength has been weak. Nerve damage to right arm and shoulder limits upper lift. Scar tissue in neck causes problems looking up. And my Sequoia is taller than I am, and the yaks used to ride up there on the racks. Better half has lost use of most of her left arm since the stroke so I have no helper to load. I was looking at loader assist racks from Thule and Malone, but they are a small fortune. So I bought a trailer, 4x8 tilt utility, and am in process of modding it into a yak trailer. Racks have to be removable, I am going to use the trailer to haul other things, like bee hives. I have some ideas. Lets see what else is out there.

The problem I have with Dick's, other than they never carry much of anything I need, is their politics toward the matter. Walmart quit selling MSR's when Sandy Hook brought them up in a lawsuit. But they did it quietly and without fanfare. Dicks was blatent. You want to stop selling guns, pull them off the shelf or quit. If you make a political statement about one type of gun, which every major manufacturer makes now, then expect backlash from the public and your suppliers. They have a double standard as others have pointed out. My peeve was when they upped the age to purchase above what the Federal regulation is. The approved age to purchase ammo and firearms is set by the governing forces. They are licensed to sell by the governing forces, but they decide to go above that law. That is discrimination in my book if I was under the age and turned down for something the Government has entitled me to purchase, licensed them to sell, and then refused by them because of their political views. There is the real lawsuit and a reason the ATF should pull their license to sell any firearm. And we all know what the real problem is. Its not about the gun. You have to stop Crazy from killing with anything in order to keep society in order. Crazy will find a way with anything.

Facebook is drama, a security risk, a huge money making scam, and a time suck for the most part. OA is fun, you can look at what you want and not have to follow or friend anyone. You can ignore what does not interest you. And I don't think Phil sells our personal info to the Russians. This is the extent of my social media. I prefer one on one social interaction.
-
Be nice if you could run one around to test them out.

It's the yoga pulling on stuff that don't need stretching at your age.

The Spring River in Ark is full of fishermen from Memphis, so it stands to reason that Norfolk and White Rivers have a bunch too. Orvis shop is down town, have to look for it.
-
It is a destination spot. I went last summer on recovery mission during treatment. My doc wanted to go there for something, we spent several hours. Memphis has an Orvis shop we visited also that was pretty good. That area is a warmwater fishery, too far south for trout and too far north for saltwater. It is unique. I was never in there before BPS took it over. Some kind of casino I think.

No crap there, I smell a carp. I like Mexican restaurants, but when the waiter is still stumbling around from being stuffed in a trunk for a few days, I feel the same.
-
Get off the pills and live life. Life is full of challenges, you need all your wits to face them and work thru them. You got kicked off Fbook by saying crap? Other than a few fishing reports, that is all Fbook is, pure crap. Don't even have an account for it myself.
-
Me too, I would rather die than put up carp.

When does bass gigging season open?
