  1. I have been wanting to visit your place, how about first day of turkey season? I could help you get rid of the noisy beast.
  2. One thing I noticed around here. Due to lack of snow this year, leaves are thick and fluffy making it hard to spot morels. We did not have a snowfall that made the ground white here this year.
  3. I have never heard of an inaccurate USGS topo. Their cartographers have always been quality. And I forgot that, I use the topos too.
  4. I think USGS was spending too much in the search for Global Warming. But. I like their stream gauge network and check the earthquake page from time to time. Back when I made trips to Alaska, I looked at the volcano site some. It is nice to have the info.
  5. I have searched a few graveyards in the past and did not roll any skulls or mushrooms. I deemed them a lost cause. I do have one that has a good pecan tree growing in it.
  6. It is starting. Not quite full on yet.
  7. Sculpins like meat. I have fooled around with them cleaning fish on trout streams. They will give you a vicious strike it it is something they want to inhale. And inhale is how they feed. I remember some guy on Norfork Tailwater that used to catch them and put them on a hook for trout bait.
  8. Today, 2 weeks after surgery, I caught a break in the weather and went to the farm to check my bees for the first time since spring thaw. Temps were in the 70's and weather was nice, but another storm coming in. Lucky for me, the girls were happy and working away. 3 hive made it thru the winter, 2 were in really strong condition, the other average. 2 hives were bearding bees, a sign of over crowding. One had a large number on the outside. I made my way thru the hives and added boxes without any issues or stings. I added an extra deep box to the middle hive with all of the bees hanging outside and by the time I left, all were inside. I went and put honey supers on, knowing that with my further cancer treatments, it may be a chore later on. I may even go back next weekend and add one more for good measure, it looks like it may be a great spring for honey production.
  9. A few small ones today in the yard at the farm. Searched a few other spots and came up nil.
  10. I always wondered what the Viking word for "Taste Like Turds" was. Now I know it in 2 Viking dialects....
  11. Nothing warms the cockles like a good ole sugar overload. Looks like the locals are more used to the climate, I see shorts and short sleeves in the pic.
  12. Perry county today along the Mississippi River.
  13. 2 questions. Where do you find a whale tail for a jet motor or did you have it made? How many times have you knocked it off?
  14. I like salmon from a can, just have to pick out the bones though. Now they have it in pouches that make good duck blind or float food.
  15. Yep. Nothing left but the big decision. Marinade in toxic chemicals and take a front row seat to a dose of radiation equal to an atomic blast or risk a 30 percent chance of it popping back up and dealing with it then in the lungs or bone. Next few weeks are going to be tough decisions.
  16. Went back in for a followup visit today, the wounds are healing nicely. Cancer was only in the one node I found and had not spread any further. Pet and microscopic exams of the nodes pulled out in surgery confirm that. Doc feels it has been there all along and not a new case, it just reared its ugly head 16 months later. I have a meeting with the Chemo and Radiation Doc's next week to plan the next stage of treatment.
  17. My buddy texted me on way back from doc, his brother has bought a new house in Cape Girardeau this year. Walked out and started picking up limbs getting ready to mow and started finding morels all over. Was over 25 at last check, all hiding in deeper grass. Its on.
  18. Did they dribble a little white gravy or quacamole out of the snoot to make a little booger?
  19. Did you check the tongue patch?
  20. At least my head is cocked in the right direction for mushrooms. If I were squirrel hunting and had to look up, I fear it would just flop on back over my shoulders and be gone. They just glued me back together this time, no staples.
  21. Good looking grays. I hit a spot today, still nothing. Going to hit Illinois over the weekend, sunshine on Sat should get them popping.
  22. Mine drifted to the other side into a node that they did not take out. They are all gone and will find out tomorrow if they will radiate this time. Good luck with the treatments.
  23. 1. You go to your favorite hole and someone is fishing it............ Get shoulder to shoulder with them and tangle up with them a few times, they will leave. 2. You are quietly fishing and covering a lot of water when you come up on someone fishing.............(when possible I had us quietly get out of the water and walk around them) If you have waders on, just plow out in front of them between casts. If too deep, stand behind them long enough to make them miss a few casts and strike up a meaningless conversation at the top of your lungs. 3. What are some of the mortal sins (or minor) that you wish other novice anglers knew and refrained from. Fishing a trout park on the weekend, it usually leads to foul language and evil intentions toward fellow mankind. I noticed you must have went during the week. The pros show up on weekends and holidays and they will irritate any sane man. The above is what I normally encounter on a weekend. They don't wear waders, I call them stompers. Splashing and stomping around making all kinds of noise instead of slowly and quietly moving around. They high bank you on the opposite side and cast over your line. Then my favorite irritation is the bait fishers in the fly area, always one or more of them it seems. During the week, fewer people and more enjoyable. The only way I tolerate weekends any more is to start out down river and fish in mornings. Then fish the park around noon or afternoon after most pros have their limit and not seeking a second or third helping.
  24. Good luck with it. Did it come back in a lymph node or somewhere else?
  25. Things went pretty fast this time. I had just been back in for a checkup on Feb. 15. It was in the first node past where they started pulling them last time. Pet showed it only in that area. Not anywhere else yet, so still a good prognosis. Still not where I wanted to be, resetting the 5 year clock.
