  1. It's Beehives and components in my shop this year.
  2. Why would anyone want to live in a Desert? It is a desert, low moisture, not much plant life, temp extremes. Give me MO any day.
  3. First 2 days on a private lake unless I get a quick draw by accident. Then off to Schell Osage for first of 3 reservations there Mon and Tues. Back to Duck Creek on Thurs and Fri. Then it will be time to lay up at the farm and look at the deer.
  4. Nice looking hopper.
  5. I have gotten out after the squirrels once and had a pretty good hunt. Having a hard time getting fired up about the turkey and deer. Prepping duck boat today for the season opener next weekend.
  6. I think that is happening in all of our rivers. It has been a while since I have caught an accidental walleye in MO, but I usually pick up a few while fishing in Ark. The walleye decline has stumped the biologists for a while in that area.
  7. We had that same dilema last week on the 11PT River. Tore a hole in a 1984 Bass Tracker Panfish Special the size of my fist. But it has a newer 2008 Mercury Jet on it that was purchased a few weeks ago. I really wanted to leave it on the bottom of one of the holes, but it has a new motor on it.
  8. Brian, did they go into any details on the new strains of trout? That one news article reveals more about the MDC and what they are doing specifically than anything that is reported on their website. It mentions trying new strains of trout. It details the wild hog control. It outlines the numbers of bears in the Ozarks. It mentions that they are stocking walleye in 11PT and the future of that. And of course there are the elk, which you can find all kinds of articles on. That fishing club may be something I am interested in too. Surely I could make 2 meetings a year.
  9. Beginning to feel alot like DUCK SEASON.
  10. Interesting article. MDC discusses fishing, hogs, bears, and elk on the 11PT. They mention tagging fish strains but don't really go into detail if they released them into the river. http://www.areawidenews.com/story/1907415.html
  11. It must be just about Duck Season again! Driving along an East to West route today watching flocks of geese coming down from the north. I was outside awhile ago blowing off the mower after leaf mulching and heard an old familiar sound, snow geese. Looked up and a flock passed over the house. There was a big flock of water turkey on a local lake the other day also. I guess the incoming front is pushing them south. Trouble is, there are not many wetlands around here for them to use. This weekend on 11PT, I did see one flock of mallards, several woodies, and a couple of grebes. I really expected to see teal and more waterfowl, but as low as the river is, teal would be dragging their feet in most spots... My group did good this year on the reservation side, 3 trips to Schell Osage. I pulled the 4th day of season, Election Day. 2 others pulled the last weekend of deer season and Thanksgiving Weekend. We had a great time there last year and am looking forward to doing it again. I am all pumped up for November and will probably be done by December. Our December sucked last year as strong south winds seem to blow ducks in other directions instead of the Mississippi River area.
  12. Yeah, its a rental.
  13. I never search down thru the forums each time, I just hit the "view new content" button on the right of the top banner and all posts appear since the last time on.
  14. The river was technically too low for jet boat use this weekend, so they should block off the ramps to keep people from damaging boats. We saw one other boat on the river all weekend and it limped back with 2 holes in the bottom to our 1.
  15. I finally got a pretty decent weekend for a change. Launched out of Whitten on the way to Riverton on Sat, and was into fish real quick. First fish of the day was a nice 18" bow in full fall colors. Several more came to hand as we floated the jet boat down the river, all on a shad rap. I decided to start fly fishing for a while when the fish started getting spooky and picked up a few on that. Then, the kids wanted a jet boat ride so I hopped in the canoe with one of my friends while the other took their 2 sons for a while. We floated and picked up a few more on the spinning rod. Then it happened, jet boat trolling motor got caught on a log and ripped it right off the mount. Second, when my buddy was running a shoal, he slowed down and back end dropped down and caught a rock. When we caught up to him at the Bay Hollow Bluff, he has beached the boat and was bailing water. I spent the rest of the trip down the river with my fist and a plastic ice bag plugging the hole and operating the drain plug to let it suck out the water. Did I mention the bilge pump did not work very good? Camped at Hufstedler's and rented boats for Sunday to float the Riverton to 142 area. This was the first time I have ever been on that area. And it is probably one of the most scenic. It was nicer than the Thomasville float. It is not the fields and lowlands I was expecting, there were plenty of big bluffs and rocky holes. Smallies, pickerel, and a few largemouth all were landed to our spinning gear. There are some long slow holes down there, but it is worth the trip.
  16. I think they must have opened it, it was usuable on Sat. They still had a bag over the sign off of AA though. I really expected a little more out of them than a little gravel and concrete. They did haul in some big chunk rock to try to block campers for a while. Looks like it will be a cluster on a busy day, the canoe access is still a few feet away from the boat launching ramp.
  17. Thanks for the report, just reconfigured my stuff for smallmouth.
  18. Micros require a little thought and keen observation. Look for cache tracks, beaten paths to where people have looked before. Check every outlet cover, post that has a hollow, etc.
  19. I plan on knocking out a couple down at 11pt this weekend.
  20. Suckers probably help the trout. The stuff they dig up is full of scuds and other trout food. They keep the bottom clean and encourage the growth of the critters that trout feed on.
  21. Talked to Hufstelder's this morning, Whitten is now open for business. Did not ask about the ramp, but they are putting in canoes there now. Heading down Sat. Floating Sun.
  22. Let one of those catfish drill one of the spines thru the web of your hand and you will develope a lack of compassion for their life.
  23. They like the eyes too. They usually bump you a few times before they sting. The main thing you need to protect is the head, I use a simple bug net from Wally World in the camping gear and a ball cap. I don't have one of them fancy bee suits yet. Did he find many mites?
  24. I use a hammer and spike a nail thru the head onto a post. Skin them on that post too while they hang there.
