  1. Yeah, they can take a hook nick and keep on ticking. Graphite blows apart when you blow a cast with a heavy lure and hit the blank. I started on slow glass, so the action of bamboo is similar to it. I have never been a fan of fast graphite, it takes too much work to manhandle it. Flyrods need to do the work, timing and flex is the key.
  2. Why not, been fished out a long time ago and they forget to restock it. Back in the 90's, I used to drive up and fish the upper Current at least 2 or 3 times a month. Gas was cheap, I had lots of free time before the kids. The park was something that I always did during the mid day. Mornings and evenings were on the river.
  3. Disposable society now. Chinese suppliers don't believe in keeping parts for us anymore.
  4. Don't you have one of those non lethal salt shooters?? Probably like shooting skeet with brown bats like we did as a kid. They can duck a shot load.
  5. So, you have owned a headwaters? What was wrong with it?
  6. I have a friend that builds too. But he is building a house. And I know a few more. I have several, Heddon, Herters, and a Grainger I think. I get them out from time to time and play with them but worry about the glue giving way on the unexpected big fish. Headwaters was offering a 4 wt 7' fast action rod that looked fun on a sale they were emailing. $329 for a single tip rod and a tube, pretty good price. But, other than reviews on their site, I have no other knowledge of the company. Websites look pretty and reviews can be altered to suit marketing. I was looking for some real world hands on from this site. I have always wanted to drop the coin on an Orvis. But, my discount is pretty slim on them, and prices keep going up. I wish I had done it back in the 90's as a dealer. An old Wes Jordan era rod would be nice also. But, I was looking for a beater that would not fly apart at the seams. But, all Chinard rods are not made alike. And even Orvis outsources some of theirs to the Chinards. They seem to do pretty well and come in cheaper in cost.
  7. Here we go. Airbags and seat belts in boat. Flimsy little bumpers and frames that absorb the impact. Coast Guard will have new inspections.
  8. Has anyone owned one of these rods that fishes on here? Made in China with decent looking furniture. I am looking at a 7' 4wt fast action stiff blank rod that I may like. I have several Herters Bamboo rods with the slow tapers. I take them out from time to time. But I worry about the glue giving way and blowing up the rod after the 60 years that they have been glued together. I think they were made in Japan.
  9. Took the one off, in a body bag. Come on Labor Day.......
  10. This summer has been all jacked up for me. One decent trip to the 11 pt in July after the 4th. Looking forward to fall, boats need some exercise. And I need some relief from work and other things.
  11. Nice. I have a trip in October to Truman. Never fished it, yet.
  12. Whatever you used for bait seemed to target the Flathead. Only see one other catfish. Good job.
  13. Did Wrench break down and buy it to replace the Ranger?
  14. Good looking boat. Where did you find that one?
  15. Which way does that one go??
  16. Even fishing for silvers in Alaska tossing a big salmon fly, my 7 weight handled the load of up to 20+ lb fish. I don't know what you would use a 12 weight outside of saltwater for.
  17. Throw it in a crack house and light it up. 2x problems gone and more investigators on the case.
  18. I never wait for them to make rules and seasons. Its mine, I protect it. Its a feral animal jacking with my stuff. Its a shame that fur does not bring anything.
  19. Shallow anchors get in the way of trolling....
  20. It sucks when you are trying to fish while they are running up and down. Last trip to 11pt, guy was pulling his kids around the boat hole at Whitten on a tube while we were trying to launch. Over the horsepower limit motor and just jacking up the fishing on a nice Monday morning.

I love the Captain D's Dippin Sauce. Make my own sometimes. Good for shrimp and fries. 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise 1/4 cup mustard (Creole mustard if possible) or Dijon 1 Tbsp sweet paprika 1-2 teaspoons Cajun or Creole seasoning (old Bay) 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish 1 teaspoon pickle juice (dill or sweet, your preference) or fine relish 1 teaspoon hot sauce (preferably Tabasco) 1 large clove garlic, minced and smashed

Fried egg sandwiches were a staple growing up for lunch in the jon boat while fishing with my uncle. They have to be fried hard in bacon grease and on white bread, some mayo.
  24. Looks like Current River at Doniphan every weekend in the summer.
  25. Watch out for the Monkey Pox. I saw a street begger in Farmington Wally World parking lot that looked like she had a dose of some kind of sores on the face.
