  1. Global cooling again tonight and tomorrow night. Had to put a jacket on to drink a beer with the neighbor tonight. Kinda nipply.
  2. Make a ramp like you would have if you load a mower or 4 wheeler into the truck.
  3. I hit some beds last weekend and the males were just starting to come in. Went thru early and did not pick many up in the morning. Went back after wearing the crappie out at noon time and they were hitting crickets. I always seem to do better with the gills on beds on calm sunny days in bright sun. They seem to like sun better than clouds or low light like evenings and mornings.
  4. Oneshot, plant white pines instead of cedar. They grow faster and bigger. Limbs will stay all the way to the ground if you don't prune them. They make excellent privacy and wind breaks. They don't itch when you mow up against them either, long soft needles. I have them planted as a screen around my house where I don't want to see my neighbors. They make good places to pee and snipe on the dogs that stray. They muffle gunshots pretty well too.
  5. I thought 7.62x39 was the AK 47 round, almost a 30 cal bullet. 5.45x39 is the AK 74 round, closer to 556 nato .223 rem round.
  6. The reason it has caught on more is the political movement behind it.
  7. I don't think those rules applied when I signed up for this forum. I guess I am grandaddyed in. Looks like the global warming issues are cover under the false information rule.
  8. Speaking of knots, we are starting to fish for crappie with a 2 jig rig. What knot do you use for the upper jig?
  9. I think the part that Phil does not tolerate is the direct attacks and name calling that usually becomes of these threads. Civil discussion of any topic is usually allowed.
  10. No Wayne, the cause was the glass boat moving at 45 mph and striking a bridge pier that was slightly under the water, causing the motor to fly off the transom into the passenger.
  11. There was a thread on a Bass tour web that mentioned a cable or something to keep it attached to the transom and prevent it from flying around. But and engineer calculated the force applied when it breaks loose and found that mounting was not available. The cables give somewhat, but retain the tension to swing the motor around. A break away would be nice. I think it really should be in the lower unit mounting. Shear bolts that would just loose the lower unit and preserve the transom for flotation and keep the main upper unit from flopping around. But, I am not an engineer or motor designer.
  12. More info trickled in this week. Seems like they had been using the shortcut under the bridge for a while, but the lake was dropping. They had slowed down to 45 or so and seemed to know it was a trouble spot. Motor came loose on impact and swung around on connecting cables impacting Tim in the chest area. He was DRT, never knew what hit him. Boat driver was treated for shock, but no injuries. I feel sorry for him too. It was an accident, plain and simple. One of those things that could happen to anyone, any day.
  13. Along with the title comes alot of responsibility, those that don't tow the line will have to walk the plank, eh. Guess you will have to build a gigging platform on your boats for that. Congrats.
  14. My favorite little line regarding falconry came a few years ago on a weekly Hunting email from the AFGC. Falconry season - opens x date, closes x date "note, this does not mean you can hunt falcons" Seems like there may be some confusion in Ark regarding that sport and they were finding an excess of red tail hawk carcasses during that time.
  15. A billion get killed running into windows? Where did that stat come from? Or does it include car windows and bumpers?
  16. Cool looking old boat. Was it trimmed out right? Did it really power up and run good or was it sluggish? If water pump was bad, you may have a cooked cylinder. I bought an ole Johnson 9.5 that never seemed to have much power. I tried everything I could think of then took it to a professional. One cylinder was full of water and no compression. It had gotten hot and cracked the cyl wall. I sold it for parts. Check the heads around the spark plug area and see if it looks like the paint is burned off. I was told it is a good sign of overheating.
  17. They kill alot of bees too.
  18. There you go, after a brief period of global cooling, we again have global warming. Someone must have really put out the greenhouse gases today........
  19. Around here, it was called carrying, not dragging. Better to leave the yak at home and just wade. Then there was the high water temps and the stagnation. And the fishing was not really that great on most of the local streams because of temps.
  20. I think the bulk of them will be east of us this year. Too bad, I still have a box of those flys ready for the next big hatch.
  21. Thanks for all of the support. I will probably learn more about what really happened in the morning when I return to work. The group of guys I work with are all friends with both of them and will have probably learned more about what really happened. I really meant this thread to go in another direction, a lesson in boating safety, or prevention like the break away motor. Or maybe how fast something we do everyday for fun can end in such a tragic way. Either way, I will definately be thinking about it the next time I approach any bridges or structures.
  22. I predict there will be global warming after the frost tomorrow night. Based on the pattern of the last month or so, there may be another period of global cooling till the blackberries bloom. Then blackberry winter will be over. After that, probably a normal summer. Last year sucked for fishing. Low flows kept me off most of the streams that I normally venture out on.
  23. Funny thing is I am copilot learning a new lake now with my good friend. He has a Tahoe and it runs pretty good. Makes me think about how well he knows the lake we are running.
  24. Wow, they bridge has a screwed up design. Don't see many with the pilings running crossways of the supports. I see what he hit.
