  1. Longer sight distance between the front in rear sight allows for a better sighting plane. Longer barrel develops more velocity to stabilize the bullet also.
  2. It could have been attacking his livestock. Or maybe he just mistook it for a deer. Seems like many are fast to condemn a man without any facts.
  3. Harbor freight has a couple of nice ones with Aluminum frames and Polycarbonate panels. Reasonably priced. I built one a few years back out of old glass storm door sections that I recovered from a remodel job. 3' wide and 3' deep with some wire shelves and about 6' tall. I had issues controlling the temps, it would really generate alot of heat in the day and get too cold of a night. I use the glass now to cover my raised beds in the spring when I start off my lettuce and radishes.
  4. All of the 380's are essentially 7 yard guns for the most part. Although, practiced pistoleers have been able to get better accuracy out of them. As long as you can constantly have a 4 inch group at that range, you will be able to get the job done.
  5. I never liked the PK380, too much like the P22 which I never could hit the broad side of a barn with or make it go bang more than once without a jam. I have shot a friends that he bought when they first came out a few years ago and scattered them as well. I never did figure out what the problem is with that Walther design, but I have not had any luck with them and my friends traded theirs off too. Get a Ruger LCP or LCR and you will have better results.
  6. Better half was sick at home today with the belly flu, so I had the green light to cook my own supper. She does not like cajun or seafood so Etoufee it was. Package of Crawdad tails peeled with fat, pound of small shrimp. Nice butter roux. Add some diced veggies, garlic, green pepper, celery, and onion. Cajun spices and some heat from the stove has filled the house with the sweet aroma of a nice home cooked meal served over steamed rice. Add a few cold ones and a movie to make a perfect friday night at home on a cold winter night. For those of you that like Cajun and visit my neck of the woods, I ran across a new spot. Wallies Park Road Bar and Grill off 143 by Sam A Baker State Park. A man with a book of cajun recipes has taken over a little bar that has been there for 50 years and is serving up some good food. Last weekend was my first trip over and I had the etouffee and a bowl of gumbo, both were great. His menu ranges from burgers to steak and lobster, grilled tuna or swordfish, crablegs, or just about anything you could desire. It has always been a little hole in the wall drinking spot, but now it has turned into a good place for a good meal. I was pleasantly surprised.
  7. EHD got several last summer (2012) in the drought around here. Weather played a big whammy on this year, windy and 70 opening weekend, windy and 20 the last weekend of firearms season. Both weekends were like hunting in a jet wash from a big ole jet turbine. I had deer walk within 20 ft and never saw them till they spooked. October game cams at the farm showed several bucks ranging from spikes to a nice 10 pt. Then the cams started showing only a few does during season. Dec cams and muzzleloader season had dwindled only to a few pics. Did get some nice bobcat shots.
  8. Probably the same guy that left a black one at Otter Slough 10 years ago. Mag Lite loves him. Another good reason to use one of the new lightweight led headlamps.
  9. I can blow that theory out of the water. In my house, I have two bathrooms. Most of the time I am oriented North and South, but there are conflicting times that end up East and West. But that is just design of the house.
  10. Would you really want to have a job that you have to record the direction of a dogs body is in when it craps? I have conducted my own studies. While driving down the road and I see a dog in a squat, a good honk of the horn breaks his concentration. I always wonder if the honk causes constipation or rroids.
  11. I guess $11 is my co-op member benefit. Have to check MFA.
  12. http://www.livescience.com/42397-2014-animal-pooping-pufferfish-highs.html Next time you are lost in the woods, wait till the dog poops and you can find your bearings. Looks like they tend to squat North and South. Wait long enough and they may pee a topo map!
  13. According to a Biologist for Illinois Fish and Game, Mo can never have a 2 season split because of the 3 hunting zones. If they reduce to a north/south zone, you can have a split season. The zones suck, the season is too late for the most part. It favors the ducks, most get to migrate thru unmolested in Oct. The mallards are the ones that take it on the chin.
  14. I wonder if the state will reimburse me to move to the other side? You guys certainly seem to have better hunting over that way. The Mississippi flyway has really sucked over here the last 2 years. It has been some of the worst hunting I have seen in over 20 years. Nothing seems to hold the birds, they just fly thru.
  15. I actually shot the pic from inside the house with my Nikon l610 compact camera zoomed out all the way. I was surprised how it did turn out, its a beater camera I bought to carry around daily. Dad turned me on to the hen scratch. If you have a feed store locally that mixes grain, they should carry it and it is far cheaper than "bird seed" blends at the store. Or you can have them custom blend you several bags for a fee and mix what ever you want in it, maybe some molasses to sweeten it some? Nothing special has turned up at the feeders this year, just titmouse, sparrows, cardinals, bluejays, and many snow birds. The pecker was pretty agressive and fought off the little birds when it wanted to feed. In the past, I have seen a pair of doves. They must have left out this year. They normally raise in the yard each year for the past few years.
  16. It took you 5 days to float 3 miles?
  17. I buy my feed at the CO-OP, its hen scratch and runs about $11 for 50 lbs this year. It has cracked corn, milo, wheat, and some other small grains. I mix in some black oil sunflower seed too. The store bought bird mixes are expensive.
  18. Finally back to even, not plus or minus here at noon, just plain ole zero. This little guy has been using the tree as a windbreak between snacks on the feeder.
  19. I don't know about the Current River, but our storm came in with alot of rain that was not in the forecast, turned to sleet briefly, then snow. Those clowns would have to deal with wet fire wood, rising river, and everything wet. If they were as ill prepared, the coyotes have to eat too. Maybe the mountain lions would have had a free warm meal if they got there in time.
  20. Kinda what I was basing my theory on, but we duck hunters are a different breed. I can sit on a chunk of ice kicking cubes around to keep the water from getting stiff in a wind and be reasonably comfortable doing it, without a shelter.
  21. Hop in the boat and paddle like hell. Excersize will keep you warm. Or just walk the boat out. They would not be on a float this time of year without waders. The wind would make it harder, but not impossible. It is a river and will not have large waves to swamp the boat. Making it to a car would be a better shelter and could probably make it out. Too many if's.
  22. Round here, they shy away from the little 8 x 10 box blinds that the MDC builds. I normally hunt the pool but not the blind late in the season. That thing needs an elevator, you could get a heart attack climbing the stairs. Interesting piece of engineering, thanks for sharing.
  23. What is the duck cooking recipe?
  24. Me neither, just wait for the heads to line up and have a "one shot, two kill" moment.
  25. Boinking squirrels are very irritating if they are on your roof and you are trying to sleep.
