  1. AR's have a purpose. They are a firearm protected by the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The original militia possessed the same firearms as the military. The colonists did too. What is different today? Why can't citizens carry the same firearms as the military? AR's and Beretta M9's.
  2. Sure it is, the government is limiting my selection of currently available guns that are out on the marketplace. The first time around, the Benelli Shotgun you purchased recently was demonized. It was a dreaded semi-auto that went bang with every trigger pull. It has a synthetic stock like the AR. And it was capable of holding more than the allowed number of sporting rounds used in hunting birds during the season, which back then was 3. Conservation order for the snow geese was the first to allow more than 3 for hunting since the market hunter days. And as far as steel goes, we have not grown accustomed, we have learned to deal with the cripples or buy better alternatives to steel shot.
  3. Soft hackles can be fished dead drift or with some kind of swimming motion. You can let them drift with the current to resemble a drowned neutral or sinking bug, depending on how it is weighted and the current. Or you can strip, lift, or drag it across a current.
  4. I am truly lost with you lately, I really can not figure out where you are going. You sit in attack mode waiting to pounce, but you never contribute anything positive. I do remember a time where it was illegal to give an Indian alcohol or firearms.
  5. Lives were really not changed by the assault rifle ban the first time. Columbine shooting came and went, they just reloaded more often, I don't recall what guns they used, I don't think it was an AR. So did Jonesboro.shooting, I think he used a lever action rifle. And he was out of jail before the gun ban was lifted. CT still had most of the strict gun laws in place from the first assault rifle ban, it did not stop it. Back in the 90's, thing were different. AR's and other military style weapons available in semi auto version were collected by a select few and made by only a few companies. Forward to 2012. The AR has changed. It is available in multiple calibers and styles. It hardly resembles the M16 used in the Vietnam war. Most major gun manufacturers carry several models for hunting and shooting sports. Several competitive shooting competitions have evolved using the AR platform as either a primary weapon or one of 3 in the competition. They are accurate weapons used in varmit hunting, deer hunting, hog hunting, and in 22 versions small game. They are very modular and fun to own. They have more accessories available than any other firearm out there to customize them. It has become a key element in all gun enthusiast's areas. That is why there is a big outrage when someone tries to limit them
  6. There were no new laws created for DWI other than lowering the BAC to .08. But the Federal and Local Governments have spent more money on the problem by running special weeks to do sobriety checkpoints. They advertise that they are going to enforce the laws more, which is a good deterrent. And they have made the punishment greater. So the amount of persons killed by DWI drivers has decreased. They did not outlaw booze. They did not limit you as to how much you can own or drink in a given amount of time. They did not close bars. They did not infringe on your personal right to indulge in a frosty cold beverage. They simply enforced the laws existing and made punishments stricter.
  7. A metal detector would be a simple purchase, just a little drop in the bucket of a school systems bloated budget. Maybe just take a percentage of the union dues to ensure the security of the teachers. As a PTA member I could see a collection for one. You really need some way of securing a school to prevent it from happening in a school again. As far as a photo id, when someone buys a gun in the state of MO, they present a photo id to verify that they are the one purchasing the gun. That is already there. I doubt there would be any way to track an individuals surroundings to control gun purchases. I might get flagged because my neighbor down the street is a meth head and has stole guns in the past, so we are not selling you one?? Mental health. There are numerous ways in place that are tracking them at the present, they just need to be tied into the current background check system. Tracking the key drugs prescribed to the individuals and flagging them in the current background check system would be an idea. Requiring doctors to report cases to the FBI so they can get entered into the system promptly. I have always felt that training and education are essential to gun owners, some are just plainly misinformed. As are most non gun owners. I feel everyone should be made aware of correct firearm safety and handling. Why not go back to the shooting programs of yesteryear. 4-H, Boy Scouts, etc used to teach proper handling of firearms. There may have even been shooting programs in schools back then. Now days, most youth are exposed to guns as something they use in a video game to create mass destruction firstly. There is no other training unless the parents are gun owners and choose to teach them. According to FBI statistics, violent crime has went down over the past few years in areas that have adopted CCW and in areas that encourage private gun ownership.
  8. Is that all you get for your vote, one favor???
  9. Or, maybe they could find the Mountain Lions that do not exist in MO....
  10. Notice that any of my ideas required any stricter gun control. They don't. Stricter gun laws will do absolutely nothing to solve the problem.
  11. Using the existing system for the call in back ground checks, there is nothing wrong with that. The problem lies in the time it takes for the system to get updated with mental issues. Criminal reports get to them pretty quick. Mental issues take longer or don't get reported at all and they can get issued . Maybe even go a step further, if you have severe mental issues, surrender your firearms until you have finished treatment. Mental issues would get noted in the database just like crimes, dwi, domestic dispute, restraining orders, and other issues that would stop a dealer from selling a gun to a person. The background check is the only thing licensed dealers have to check buyers with. There are questions on the form when you purchase a gun that refer to mental illness and drug use, but a buyer can simply lie on the application and a dealer can't really dispute it unless he is visibly drunk or on drugs.
  12. Yep. Poachers don't usually have collars on their dogs.
  13. Probably. I heard a rumor they are gonna mark Morel Sites with something Thermonuclear. That way they can track them from space at NASA.
  14. Ok, here we go. No politics, party lines should not matter here. We are all outdoor sportsmen, and we all care about the outcome of what is about to happen. Seems like they politicians have made up their mind already. Whether you realize it or not, the decisions coming soon will affect all of us in some way or another. What can we really do to solve the problem? I suggest 1- Stronger background checks and improving on the methods we have in place. Make sure mental illness gets reported immediately. Better a false negative than a missed decline on a background check. 2- Protect our state funded schools like we do other key state facilities. Metal detectors, limited access with control, armed security. It is our state funded education system's responsibility to protect our kids when we as parents can't. 3- Enforce laws that are in place, don't try to create new kneejerk laws. In all shooting cases, individuals broke existing laws before they started shooting. It did not stop the final outcome. 4- Continue education and training of the public in the use of firearms and safety much like the Hunter's Education Programs and the CCW Certification program. 5- Continue on the path to ensure that everyone realizes that they alone are responsible for their and their families personal security and actions immediately, police secondary. Personal CCW has lowered the crime rates. Personal gun ownership leads to better security and lower crime rates.
  15. That is where the money came from to mark the Ginseng Plants.....
  16. Looks better tonight. Posting without problems from home computer running XP and Firefox, same as yesterday. I was not using Tapatalk.
  17. I have been all Orvis from the get go back in the 80's. I currently own over a dozen rods of different lengths and weights. I have traded off a few that did not fit my casting style, but have enjoyed the ones I have kept. Orvis is a great company with excellent customer service. Most calls to them are answered before the first ring. They have gone above and beyond customer service when I have needed it. Their rod warranty is one of the best in the business. Their waders last and last. I have a pair of silver labels that I bought in 2000 and they are still watertight and breathable. I have another pair of Pro Guides that I use in the winter or colder tailwaters that I have had since 2005 and are in great condition. The only Orvis products I have used that do not wear well are the wader boots, I never get more than a couple of seasons out of any of them. You get what you pay for. If you can afford it, in rods or waders, buy the best that you can afford and you will not regret it.
  18. I seem to have trouble posting to a topic. But if this posts, it may work. That worked, but did not show as a post till I left the topic and came back to find a triple post. Did the same on another thread.. Good thing there is a delete post option It works like normal when you edit the post.
  19. The Cherokee does not have a rack system? That is a preferred way, that way you don't get the interior of your vehicle wet.
  20. Sounds like alot of tax dollars wasted. What exactly is the ecological value of the ginseng plant to the overall ecology of the area?? Why not just outlaw the trade of ginseng in the state?? Maybe tax the ginseng collectors $200 for a license to collect it? Create a large government entity like the GEF to control the substance? Or you could just let them dig it to extinction, and not worry about it as the whole idea of ginseng is about as corny as Horny Goat Weed. Don't Waste My Hard Earned Tax Dollars on BS....
  21. Coot Chili is a favorite. After a few days of watching them, you have to plow a shot into them to control the population. Breast them and chunk the meat up. Toss it into your favorite chili recipe and help control the population. You will never realize it was a green footed water walker to start with. Next obstacle, Shovelers, Any "good" recipes? Since most local MDC farms grow cockleburs, the shovelers are the prime foragers. You can hear them pass with the choking noises they make on the burs. There are a bunch of them on our flyway.
  22. Anyone have any good Coot recipes?
  23. I blamed it on a feral fish, some kind of invasive species. Look how red they are, they have to be the Colorado Red Trout brought here on the feet of Mountain Lions.
