    26 Cfs

26 centimeters for shallow.... I spent the last 2 weekends on the Spring River in Ark. It is about what it normally is at the end of a dry summer. 11 Point is the same way, alot of ramp at the 142 access. We are about 12 inches short for the year at my local. Picked up almost a whole tenth on Sunday morning. Watered garden again on Monday. I have been keeping a water bowl out in front of a game camera to keep squirrels out of corn. Just went thru 137 pics of birds, squirrels, rabbits, and a possum visiting it as a water source last week. Good news, the water tables had been recharged the last 2 years with some record flooding, so the big rivers should make it. Some of the smaller streams will be really depressed this year in July and August.
  2. I am lost, are you trying to ditch her or make a new fishing buddy?
  3. I would just take her, she will be bored stiff in a few hours or less and want you to take her back home. Make sure the temp will be no less than 90 during her time frame with lots of sun. Be sure to fill her full of coffee first and motor way far out in the lake away from anything that resembles a place to pee. That should clinch it. Then, you will be back to your normal routine in no time flat.
  4. Here you go. Plead guilty in court and forfeited property in exchange for a plea deal. This guy had some high morals, pot, LSD, and shrooms were OK. NO Crackheads, Methheads, Heroin Addicts, or Hot Rod cars on his property. Never been there, but it may have been interesting. At least the Bricks allows Nitrous in the Hot Rod 4 Wheelers. Looks like we have a new campground on the Current River. Maybe they will start a Mountain Lion Ranch there....Or a turd bug sanctuary. http://www.semissourian.com/story/1859215.html
  5. This brings up another thought. SWPA employees are not "government" employees. The dams are maintained by the Corps, but the generation is controlled by the power company. As a consumer of their product, you might have some say in the matter.
  6. That is a pig of a rainbow. Congrats
  7. But, if you feel that the water is too swift to cross...... DON'T CROSS. You are responsible for your own safety, not the horn. Don't attempt to drown just to cross the water.
  8. With the size of the big collar, it should be sporting a deep cell trolling motor battery for power. They could build a big invisible fence and use the battery as a shock collar when they cross. That would save on the monitoring part. Looking at the size of the collar, at least they went cheap on the tracking equipment and saved taxpayer dollars. Most beagles and coyote dogs have tracking collars smaller than a pack of cigarettes. That must have some old military surplus from WWII that they picked up cheap. I saw a nice herd of elk yesterday, none of them were wearing any collars and they looked natural. Plus, I think they stomp the grapes for the winery in the fall.
  9. Ness, I think that would be classified as a chest pack with a backpack if you are having trouble figuring out how to vote. It is probably the same one that I use in winter or on longer fishing trips when I need the kitchen sink. You can carry a ton and still not have back problems like with a traditional vest.

    Smoked Squirrel

Actually, I am going to start smoking the little tree rats come daylight in the morning, Came home today and found 1/4 of my sweet corn cut off at the base and laying over in the rows. Game camera revealed the culprits, a whole gang of them. The war is on.
  11. What weeds do the elk relish in their quest for browse, and how will it improve the forest ecology it will habitat in? Will they improve the timber harvests of the Ozarks?
  12. I wonder about the sling pack and it dragging in the water. I looked at one for duck hunting also and thought the same thing. Does it stay in one place on your shoulder or move around all day?
  13. Woof, that is kinda steep. Looks like they may be able to fund a few more agents.
  14. Thanks. I really don't know of any laws pertaining to wild game in a restaurant. It was for a private function and not served to the public for a fee. There are several places that I can deliver ducks around here to have smoked. They do turkeys too. The only rub would be to sell it to the public I believe.
  15. What was the actual cause that started the elk restoration project, pressure from a hunting group or desire to bring back an extinct species?
  16. Data shows that elk were eliminated by natural selection, they could not adapt to a natural predator, man. They did not die of a massive disease, natural disaster, or any other reason. They could not adapt. That is the data I have available, do you have any other theories????
  17. But 300 months, 25 years, 1/4 century, is a small amount of time considering life on earth has been here for millions of years and changes have been recorded in epochs. A 25 year cycle with only a degree of change is not that significant in the grand scale of things. I could say were are in a period of global drying now, we have less than 3 inches of rain this year since Feb based on my rain gauge. I could even make a fancy chart to show it to folks. But everyone around me is getting more rain.
  18. It was cow farts and dinosaur farts that caused all of the climatic events last I kept count. Data can be construed any way by any one. I feel that elk were eliminated by natural selection in MO and reintroduction is a waste of money. The natural selection cause has only gotten worse since the extinction. Why bother?
  19. Sounds like you need a smaller Glock. A Kel Tec PF9 or the new Ruger SR22 pistol fishes with me all of the time.
  20. Just a little poll to have a little fun. I noticed most fly shops are carrying a sling pack now that I really could not consider comfortable or useful. I have an Orvis Super Tackle Pack Vest I use in winter sometimes along with a full Chest/Backpack vest. In summer, I have a Flytedeck minimal system I have been using for a few years now that is great. I have forced myself to downsize and anything extra I toss in my shirt pockets. I also have a fanny pack that works well also if I need to carry more that a few boxes. Most chest packs have great new features like magnetic tool holders, work decks, etc. Just picking a few brains.
  21. What if a collared elk enters a private landowner's property, can the landowner use deadly force?

    Smoked Squirrel

Sounds good, you would have to smoke cool and slow or it would dry out. Try parboiling first then tossing it on a smoker for flavor. In college, I managed a BBQ joint and we did a mess of coons for a benefit wild game feast. They are full of fat and the grease kept them moist. There is alot more meat on the coon than a squirrel has. Been watching several in the yard and have been craving squirrels, but I can't get past the ticks on them this time of the year. It tends to ruin my craving for them.
  23. A friend of mine used some of the new synthetic deck boards left over from his deck project and it turned out pretty slick. Did not have to carpet them. But his was an older model Bass Tracker Panfish Special and trailer. I don't know how they will work with a big boat. I would look for some stainless steel bolts, they should last longer.
  24. What is causing this fricking drought, politics or global warming?
  25. Not even a measurable trace here. The fog this morning is wetting the ground more than the rain.
