  1. When I grill or roast it, I toss the spears in some olive oil, then a little S&P. Ronnie -- you grill it with the proscuitto on or after? I've never done anything with it but I've seen it. Looks pretty thin usually -- wouldn't that burn?
  2. So, what am I looking at? Any techie-angler want to try to educate the rest of us?
  3. You stop by, you get cider.
  4. I guess that front did the Tonganoxie split and missed us. We only got a few sprinkles
  5. Hmmm. Haven't heard of Crown Valley -- I don't think they're in KC. Also, haven't seen Piney River in our stores. Also also -- never heard of a 'stout and cider'. I never would have thought to mix those two. There's a new cider making a push in our market from MillerCoors called Smith & Forge. Pretty good stuff -- less sweet than a Woodchuck, more sweet than a Crispin. Stella Artois Cidre is pretty good too. Some ho'made down in the basement ready to be bottled this weekend.

    Strawberries

A couple of my containers have Alpine strawberries. The flavor on those is amazing, but I don't get too many and they're tiny.

    Strawberries

Looks like good info, JD. I pulled up my beds a couple years ago and moved strawberries to pots. It was mostly because I didn't want the maintenance required of a bed. The pots work great, but I don't have near the volume I used to.
  8. Just a hop, skip and a jump from KC...
  9. Ah, but they get lost, wet, chewed up.... Calendar and contacts are all electronic now, but I still plan on paper, brainstorm, list, take notes. I tried for a long time to do those things electronically, but I find slowing down and writing it out is more effective for me. I have been dictating some notes when I 'm driving with my secretary Siri though
  10. Man, that stinks. I have really become dependent on my electronic contacts and calendar and would be in a world of hurt if I lost them. One more reason to not share accounts I guess.
  11. We'll, I'm the classic candidate for it -- fair skinned, blue eyed, lotsa of sunburns when I was young. It's just a matter of time, I'm sure. I get checked every year. So far so good. I carry the aerosol sunscreen in my car all the time now -- so much better than the old creams to apply.
  12. Done.
  13. Good write up and pictures. Thanks for sharing that -- interesting stuff.
  14. Or maybe making babies. But I don't know how to regulate either one of those.

    Kim Anderson...

Thanks for noticing. I try and stay out of the gutter, you know? Seriously -- That's a pretty exciting hire for you guys, what with the history and all. Just listened to him on the radio on the way home. From that and other things I've heard he seems like pretty solid guy.

    Kim Anderson...

Good for you guys. This may put the scandal-ridden Mizzou basketball program on the road to recovery.
  17. That sounds pretty darn good, especially on a good steak.
  18. Looks awful tasty there, F&F.
  19. Nice photo -- makes even the homely carp look pretty (almost). Is there a Carp Unlimited? That'd be a good cover shot for a magazine.
  20. I think JD's right -- a quick blanch in boiling water (2-3 minutes) then pull them out and drop them in a bowl with ice water to stop the cooking. Dry them off and lay them out on a cookie sheet and slide them in the freezer. This prevents them freezing together in a big lump. When they're frozen, pop them into freezer bags. I think any kind of canning is going to require too long a cooking time to be safe, and the asparagus will be mushy.
  21. Nice story. It's a good thing to keep the tradition going. He looks like he's having a blast.
  22. I use the free app IPBBuddy on my phone and tablet. Works just fine.
  23. It's pretty much dead from what I see and hear. Sure, if they meet along the way it'll still be a rivalry -- but not like the good old days. And when's that gonna happen anyway, and will it matter?
  24. I agree with you on Kansas people being nicer in general. And I'll go ahead and say it: the farther you get away from Johnson and Douglas counties (that's KC and Lawrence) the more likable the people are. Good folks that work hard, value family, community and heritage, and try to be self reliant. You know -- Republicans
  25. Nothing like a regrettable response to a regrettable response. The rivalry is dead. You just can't have it when you're in a different conference. It's over -- and that's regrettable. Maybe over the next 20 years a really good rivalry will develop with someone down there, but it won't be the same. If you like football and tabloid headlines, Mizzou's the place. If you like basketball and want an education, KU's the place. And don't sell our scenery short, bub. Jump start your car and drive over to the Flint Hills some time. No ticks, no meth.
