Asian theme today, First thing this afternoon we did egg rolls. Pork to be exact, VID_20221210_133835586.mp4 Heated up a kettle of peanut oil and fried them, Some were eaten because preparing the main meal is going to take a bit, some will be kept in fridge for snacking and some frozen for later, Later we began to prep for Chinese orange wild turkey. Rice in the rice cooker and then turkey was fried crisp. Then all brought together in a sauce until thickened, Plated over rice and chowed down. Good day for cooking inside.

Thanks for the info, man. I will contemplate that idea. My buddy who I got the bigger lathe from is leaps and bounds ahead of me. I have him for a sounding board to bounce questions off of.

Yes, she is but still putting out music. There are great artists long gone that we all like that are long gone but the music is still worth listening to. I grew up as a kid listening to stuff that was popular to my parents. It still resonates in my ears.

Got tickets a few months back and hit the show last night at Missouri State University. What a hoot. He and his crew including his band, he can sing and play guitar too, made a good show. 2022 Tour - Alton Brown There was storytelling, game show with audience participation cooking and food science with hot peppers again with another audience member. There were 14 pounds chicken wings cooked in a matter of minutes with quite the contraption on stage powered with a row of heat guns while cooking vessel was being turned by a ship steering wheel. you could smell the cooking aroma being in the audience. Worth the trip and glad we went.

In Springfield this morning and did a Sam's club run. Picked up some Ahi tuna steaks. Four pack mark down price of 16 bucks. I though sounded high when Pat reminded me you can't get a hamburger meal for four bucks each. So we worked up a pan of crispy parmesan roasted potatoes. there is a stick of butter, Italian seasoning and parm cheese those halved taters are floating around in. My first tackle of a burl. A mulberry burl gifted to me by a friend. I took this in my hands and said what a mess not knowing what I would be getting into. I really did not know what I was doing so I took it to my bandsaw and started taking slices off a little at a time fin ally getting it squared up, Then bigger slices, those were then sliced again into lengths for pen blanks. Looks like a bunch but there are flaws and cracks to contend with all will not be useable. I call my first burl a success. This was done Day before yesterday. Then yesterday I tried turning two. It gives a really, really hard durable finish. The look of depth in the wood also. You can also do a sanding sealer and friction polish to finish. Thing about that is with heavy use and oils off of your hands it can eventually break down that finish. I do know it is much quicker and easier to do though. This is becoming kind of addictive. Wondering what a specific piece of wood will look like. On the lookout for burls as I prowl around.

Let's make a pen. There is a bunch of pen kits available. Anywhere from just over three bucks to 20 or more dollars. Detailed instructions for making the pen or mechanical pencil. Only thing missing is bushings for the specific one you are doing and tools for turning and finishing. Pick out blank and cut to length and drill to brass tube size then glue in the brass tube from kit, VID_20221204_104113490.mp4 Square off ends of blank and using the bushings put on pen turning mandrel. Got to turning and get close to bushing size changing to 120 grit sandpaper before going too far. OOps a bad spot in the blank but I have a solution. I filled the spot with some bloodwood dust and thin CA glue. Now run through grits up to 600 grit sandpaper. Then blow out the dust and clean with denatured alcohol. Replace the steel bushings with nylon, Now we start putting on micro layers of CA glue. I do two to three first of thin CA to soak into the wood. Then ten more with medium CA, When all is done change to micromesh wet sanding, Next use a plastic polish. I am using what you restore headlights with. Assemble the pen components again follow instructions. You tube is your friend for sure, but it took me awhile for it all to come together.
