  1. If we are going to be politically correct and touchy feely afraid to say anything then we should not pick on bowfisherman, folks who want to keep a limit of bass of any species, our micro fishing friends, or even the giggers. Quit picking on me I am a 6' 183 lb. old man, Ok I give you all permission to pick on me, BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Pot pie, Squirrel pot pie that is . Ozarks anglers is an outdoor site. Some of us grocery shop in the outdoors. Quite a place to share this meal. @fishinwrench He had mentioned his aunt used to make squirrel pot pie but the recipe had been lost. Wrench then found one and posted up. So when we got our Missouri Ruralist magazine there was the recipe. Called for three cups of meat so we got the slow cooker on low with some chicken broth heating up. Not knowing how much squirrel would equal three cups I used four. A bit of S&P and in the slow cooker it went, Three hours later I began to pick meat while the Mrs. Prepared other parts of the meal, filling and pie dough, I added three cups packed picked meat to the vegetables and thickened mixture. I figure it takes at least three BIG squirrels to make three cups. I am glad I used four, A bit of pie dough and mixture left to make a small one to go with the 9 inch pie. I think a 10 inch pie would be perfect. Ready to hit the 375 degree oven, 45 minutes later, Hot Dang the plating and feasting commenced, Yea baby good eats right here fellows. It is Mr. and Mrs. BilletHead approved! BilletHead
  4. Congrats to your friend, Not sure what excites me more this morning. The beautiful buck or that there oatmeal cake , BilletHead
  5. That is so cool John! I know that feeling and it is special. Our sons will feel it too when it is time. I have my grandpa's 30/30 and a colt peacemaker that belonged to him. Thanks for sharing, BilletHead
  6. Dang, I was doing a fine job staying out of this thread but now there is a caravan of bow fisherman from Honduras heading for the border. Build a fence, send troops to stop them. There are carp in Texas that need protecting . BilletHead
  7. A very special bush ! 🤪, BilletHead
  8. Neat reports guys and well done to the new hunter. You never forget your first. Bummer DJ for the gun issue . Yep it happens. The BilletHead's pretty much just watched deer out the window both evenings. Our little food plot out back and cut soybeans to the south. The does come out and Saturday three little bucks. Soon a nice one gets into the mix and round and round they all go. Last Evening just the big one showed up checking out the mixed seven slick heads in the field. The bigger buck is a solid wide thick six point for sure but cannot see any eye guards/brow tines at that distance out the window. I have three nice sixes on trail cam that are missing the needed points. Genetics I suppose. It is a shame to have five year old deer that this is all they are going to do and they need taken out but we are still in the 4 pt. or better part of the state. With three archery deer in the freezer do not need to shoot another. BilletHead Jr. has plans on being here to hunt Saturday. I am hoping he has one of the big ones go by his favorite stand. If he wants just shoot an eater that will work too, BilletHead

Well Done John! So how did the taste test go? Shall we try it? BilletHead
  10. Nope, Bushing on the motor mount where the motor pivots. It was put on upside down. The mechanic said it was that way from the factory in China. Unbeknownst to me I did not notice it until my warranty was expired. Even sent the picture to Wrench. Thought it was a good enough picture he would pick up the problem. I have place I get it serviced South of me. Much closer than Glenn . I told the guy something just did not look right. He laughed and said it had been installed upside down. He even called mercury. They said out of warranty , BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Not really if you use sparingly. We dehydrated some. Break them open and shake out the seeds. Then break up the pepper. Same little red peppers they put on General Tso's when you order it on the spicy side. Contrarily to popular belief we are not pepper heads. We like to taste what we are eating. like enough spice heat just to let us know it is in there. BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Finally got on the cinnamon roll bandwagon, Used the recipe @Flysmallie shared with us. Did not have what I would call a good first or second rise but the baking process brought the dough to life, We did add a few raisns and a handful of chopped native pecans. Spread the frosting and it made a good breakfast at 5:45 this morning with a hot cup of coffee, Thanks Ronnie, BilletHead

  21. Thanks John, Pretty fun and like the idea of how quiet they are. What can I say. I knocked them over and shot 100%. BilletHead
  22. Silhouette shooting, Well Wrench got a bunch of silhouette targets. I did not get any ordered but a package showed up in the mail from our fishinwrench here on OAF. Thanks @fishinwrench . I read the instructions and it said to tie some twine to the targets so you don't loose them after being hit. I am always thinking and came up with something, Some little chain, small clips and screw chain to 5/4 foot long sections of decking boards. I thought this is going to work and sent picture via text to wrench. Good idea he said and he had already lost a chicken where it had left the twine. Flying off into who knows where. So i set up my range from enclosed instructions, Put targets and yardage markers out. The closest 20 yard chicken with board I had to set on a bucket to clear the top of garden pond and a bench downrange. From a bench and lead sled I focused in on the chicken and pulled the trigger. Down it went. With a smile I went to target. The chain had wrapped around my stake marker and no chicken to be seen . Oh boy. I began to scratch around on the leaves and every few leaves was yellow just like the target. Nothing ! So i went to shop and got a magnet on a wand then began to sweep the leaves. Nothing . I could only imagine I had smashed it into the soft ground forever. Bingo another idea, Dumped old gas out of leaf blower and put fresh in. Fired it up and went to work. Just kept blowing and sweeping and looking, 16 yards down range as I was nearing a gooseberry bush it appeared! If it had made it into the bush I would of never found it, Somehow it had unclipped. I then shot the next one the pig at 30, The turkey at 36, Then the ram at 45. All 4 shots had hit and all a bit to the left. Had a pretty strong west wind blowing, The .25 pellet was hitting pretty hard and the boards shifted some as the little steel targets flying tightened the chain tight. i will on a calm day make sure my left right is on but I think it was the wind. i am also going to maybe go to split rings for attaching the chain to target. Thanks again Wrench, BilletHead
  23. EPIC, I vote this post of the day if not the week! Way to go Jeff! BilletHead
  24. Oh she does Ronnie, Wednesdays and weekends we hobby together. Guess our incomes are not his and hers they go together in one fund. She has to work for insurance for one thing. Now for gearing up she has an equal autoloader shotgun just like mine that is hers, her layout blind and I guarantee she shoots her amount of shells. Then her three dedicated fly rods, waders just like mine too. Flys get tied in her preference of color combinations. As a matter of a fact the pink one from the fly swap you tied she got her mitts on pronto. She is half owner in our boats and has her own kayak. On and on I could go. On the plus side of this outdoor partnership. The Fringe Benefits are EXCELLENT ! Here is another example. Hunted Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Solo Tuesday and Thursday. Should not be out there myself but I did. So Tuesday morning 4AM get up. Pat was out there helping me load at 4:45. Wednesday it was 3AM with her along. Yesterday another 3AM wake up and she was helping load at 3:45. This morning she awakes me at 3AM. I told her no last night. She says are you sure you don't want to go? No, go back to sleep I can't do another day. This gal starts plucking goose and duck breasts and I singe the pinfeathers off then fillet off the breast halves. If I get behind she singes and fillets off too. I really don't know why I deserve her, BilletHead
  25. Of course with every hobby all should be figured in. Costs me double with a spouse that partakes too. BilletHead
