So much rain here in BilletHeadVille, One thing about it is it makes the shrooms burst forth. Still seeing chanterelles pop but kind of ignoring them until this weekend when the Mrs. can help me pick them. But I could not stand not taking a woods walk today. First thing I stumbled upon was some Hygrophorus Milky. Scored on a half dozen! Picked and tried some a couple years ago. Tasty and have hoped for more ever since that find, More prowling I found a chicken of the woods. Got part of it picked, A bit more looking and I found a first for me. Hedgehog. Three in fact and there are a few more peeking through the moss blanket. Looking forward to the taste test, Cinnabar chants are starting too here, Not looking I still found chanterelles and picked some, Black staining polypore, Old man of the woods, Fun walk, hot, sweaty and mosquitos of course, BilletHead

Thanks everyone, Please keep the prayers and positive thoughts coming. Family are holding their own but Richard is not doing well at all. Still working for a plan of treatment. Problem is he is so weak right now and needs to eat and drink to get stronger for handling the treatment regiment that is needed, BilletHead

Buffalo hot dogs and slaw, Grilled hot dogs. Charcoal with hickory splits on the coals. Lid was on eighty percent of the time making lots of smoke, Served on Hawaiian style buns, blue cheese dressing, added blue cheese crumbles and choice of hot sauce. We used franks. Then there was the slaw . Southwestern style. Cabbage, jicama, mexi-corn,red onion, cilantro, jalepeno, lime juice and some honey, chipotle chilies, ground cumin and S&P, A cold tall one to wash it all down here in BilletHeadVille BilletHead

The BilletHead harvested some wild garlic today, More rain last night. Softened the ground real good so I decided to go pull some wild garlic, Some smaller heads in there and some nice ones too. Just have to use more smaller ones in dishes. Got the tops cut off, bundles made and hung to dry in the shop. Have more spotted along the back roads so may look for more. BilletHead will have garlic breath and so will Mrs. BilletHead. BilletHead

You need to find you a chanterelle patch friend . And a hen patch, and an oysters on some trees, and some chestnut boletes scattered around, and some oh well you get the picture . This will make you forget all about peas and your deck! BilletHead

Pretty good pairing if I say so myself . Yellow squash and chanterelles sautéed in butter S&P served over toast, Enough for two and all eaten by me of one . If Mrs. BilletHead comes home from work in a good mood and I find another squash in the garden ready to pick I will fix this for her this evening. BilletHead may be in trouble when the Mrs. finds out I went shrooming without her today! BilletHead

A win in BilletHeadVille, They are just peeking through the leaves here. pretty neat as the little stem worms/maggots have not infested them yet. Don't care what you say if you have eaten the larger ones you have ingested some of these pests. I know we have but just considered it more protein . Found some witches butter. Want to try it but it is not enough and how the heck do you fix it? https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/witches’-butter There was one lonely chestnut bolete. I have seen a few before but only one here and there. Got positive ID on them last year. I told myself I was going to try one someday. Today was the day for that, Got the mushroom brush and brushed off the dirt. Got a bit of butter hot and slightly sizzling. Tossed in the little bolete for a sauté , A little browning, . Darned good tasty treat. If I ever stumble on any more they will go into the bag or shrooms basket , BilletHead
