Been awhile since I have reported from the BilletHead land. Yes we have been getting some ducks and geese on our own and as guest with other friends. As far as going with others I went on my first flooded pecan timber hunt and the next day Mrs. BilletHead got to go too. Fun it was with our friend the Cajun. Mallards in your face fun. Also got to hunt with a fellow OA member Curtisce. We got all green heads on one trip and then a couple of geese on another. All trips aren't successful and we have been pretty beat up on some. I tell the Mrs. it isn't what what you get that matters it is the process involved. We have got to add more sunrises together as a couple together. THIS is what matters to me and the one I love . Ok not to today's hunt. If I have time I like to scout a little each day. Since I am lucky to hunt close to home it is easy. One place I had been watching closely intrigued me. There is a rather large irrigation lake. In the field where the turret and leg is there aar terraces. On some of the terraces are catch basins. Two side by side catch basins the drains are partially plugged thus they are holding water. One of these is approx sixty yards long and forty yards across. I peeked over it yesterday to see it covered with mallards and geese. They seen me too and buggered out. A plan was made for this morning. Sooooo wet. It is a disked corn field sewed in winter wheat. All of this rain it is a lob lolly. No way I could even close to it with my little trailer. Plan "B". I was gifted a small sled from a trapper friend who is no longer using it. Liked it so much I got another one about the same size. With space limited all we took was a half dozen goose floaters and a dozen mallards plus two layout blinds. We lashed the sleds side by side and loaded up for the trip to the spot. We were able to drive along the field edge to a waterway and then up it to within forty yards of the waterhole. Then the process of wading soft ground to the spot. Glad the mule was with me She is a trooper. Decoys out and settled in we began to wait. So funny the birds ignored the thirty acre lake to hit the puddle we were at. We shot three drake mallards and two hens. No excuse for not getting the rest of our ducks. Poor shots at times. Got our six geese too and while waiting for more possible ducks more geese a lot more geese came in. One in particular. A loaner who fell in love with the goose floaters. We will call him waldo. We shot some pictures of waldo. Well the Mrs. did very carefully. We even had twenty five dump in at once. They finally spooked and waldo stayed. So where is waldo in the six floaters? Oh there he is! Second one from the left, Then the mornings take, The hide which was not too good. No where to hide in the mud and short wheat. The spread missing waldo. We had to actually sit up and then stand up to get him to leave his plastic pals, Transportation was the bomb! Mule working in the background, More cheap help picture. Yes she knows I referred to her as the mule. As long as I show the girl a good time she says it doesn't matter! BilletetHead

Char Siu Pork, http://honest-food.net/2015/10/17/char-siu-pork-recipe/ Was on the meal planning today. First time for this dish and we consider it a keeper. Suggested to be paired with white rice but we have duck needed to be eaten so we did duck fried rice which could of been a meal in itself. Here is the pork getting the char on coals. We did this and then finished off on the gas grill where I have a bit more control of the temperature. Yesterday driving down the road I made a good find and scored on some fresh oyster mushrooms and some of them would be going into the rice, Starting the rice, here is the bok choy and ginger going in the wok. I have never knowingly had bok choy but like it. Everything in the rice dish finishing up, The pork cut up with the rest of the sauce and then the finished plate. Enjoyed the meal with a cold one and the chiefs game, BilletHead

Which PFD do you recommend?
BilletHead replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Angling Discussion
HA Wrench, I have seen my son reach for a stringer of crappie that came untied seat and all right behind me go overboard and just miss a stump with his head. I went over in a flat bottom from a knelling position in the front of that boat. I shared that story with you . A lot can happen and by yourself? Just saying......... I have to admit there was a banana in the boat that day and it is an adventure every time I go out. BilletHead -

Anything can happen in a split second, don't ask me how I know Besides you could bump your head on the way off the prowler. Can't stand up passed out. BilletHead -
Thanks for the report JD. We have been wondering about your progress. Photos pretty graphic. Maybe it will scare the crap out of some on here. Not that it can happen to the most healthiest people but those that push the edge may take another look at there habits. Now to those that take this statement and makes them mad you can't argue with the facts. Keep us updated and may you continue to heal nicely! BilletHead's

Yes it was and still is down here. Three inches of run off this go around and still raining. If I had webbed feet and an oil gland on my rear I would be out there. Made a pond scout on the way to town this morning. Looking good! Billethead

Welcome Buck, Mrs. BilletHead and I managed one green wing pond hunting. Lots of birds on this place but they flew around in the dark while we sat up with head lights on our noggins. Needless to say the birds landed on the opposite side and messed around all morning giving us the stink eye! This and not much moving from other parts was the pits. Hey we were out though, BilletHead

You wanted to be out there today?

Getting Close to Hair Jig Time........
BilletHead replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
Boy you guys and your hair jigs. Nice work fellows! One thing I have to say you guys and your variations are as bad as a bunch of fly tyers. While I know there are some fly fisherman in your group I am thinking with all this tying there may be some closet fly fishers and fly tyers in here . Well done and happy Thanksgiving you jig pitchers! Actually I still have an original float and fly system. The little box with hair jigs and pear shaped bobbers. Now that I am one of those stuck up fly guys the bobbers are now strike indicators. BilletHead -
There you go young man. Grow your own! BilletHead

Flysmallie is spot on. So fly fishermen are fish killers now? We don't jerk off their faces when landing them again In jest.

More skilful Or more simple

Wrench why not the fly rod and one of your air heads?

Remember that lettuce we planted in August 23rd? Well it did real well. I mean we have had the stuff running out our ears. So with what low that was called for last night we picked most of what was left. What we did leave did not look too bad this morning after warming up from 25. BilletHead Best Romaine we have ever had. Neighbors got a couple of big bags (they had to wash their own ) Here is what we had cleaned up. We will see how much we can eat in the next few days!

Never been about right or wrong it is what gives me the most gratification. I can and do both but lean towards the "Dark Side" Again it is not what I catch but the process or the road taken to my goal. Like Mitch said enjoy what makes you happy! BilletHead
