I restore and use. Stuff from the latter part of 1800. Nothing I restore for myself does not get used.
-
We only do vintage for cooking ourselves. I restore and season them. Nothing really wrong with lodge as they come. Just heavy compared to vintage and rough texture but if you take care of them and use and clean properly you are good to go. If you go vintage and restore yourself Do not throw in a fire as stated above. You do take a chance of damaging an heirloom. There are much easyer ways to take the crud off. Just because grandpa or grandma did it does not mean it should be done. Ask @grizwilson we have discussed this to length. Les put your two cents in if you will on this. Let me look at what I have. I might have a smooth lodge. I am beginning to go through stuff and liquidate when I bought every piece I could to restore. I know am collecting certain marked ones to build sets. I do not have a dutch oven available at this time. The last one I restored has been spoken for. @Maverickpro201 you are from Collins, correct? I am not that far away. If you are over West towards Eldorado Springs or Nevada actually South of Dedrick I can show you some neat vintage stuff like really, really old restored and ready to use.

And purposely gave it to the native peoples to kill them. Hard to fathom what some humans are capable of.
-
Humans had everything to do with it, probably sometimes not knowing they were carriers.

Good luck that is something I have not got into yet. This is good though now I have someone to ask things pertaining to call making.
-
No, I don't. You going to start making duck calls?

Nice one Dutch! Good going you two.

EPIC Mitch

My buddy told them no to sitting up in his place. So, they did it right across his property line. I mean he was mad. Still is. have learned to not bring it up.
-
Yes, but nothing fancy like you have Mitch. Woodturning.

Way to go man! congrats on a good one. Good things come for those who stick with it. I might add it's tough in your neighborhood with all the culling over that way if you are hunting in the area where so many were taken out by the sharpshooters. We have a very close friend west of Weableau that is very unhappy for what was done close to his home. Piles of corn not far from the road with a shooting house for nothing more than thinning the heard.

Ok another question. So we know this is a Fenwick blank. The other rod I shared and found last summer we decided it was a Fenwick blank non marked. I showed a guy who said both rods had the same Fenwick color of thread wraps. Was this just a popular color wrap? Or would Fenwick sell kits for diy? Note these two rods were hundreds of miles apart. Any other companies using Fenwick blanks for their resale? The newest accusation is very translucent while the first one is more opaque. .

Thanks. I did try a 5wt modern line on it also, but I am sure it is sized higher for modern rods. I should order a 406 in 5wt to try. Heck it might throw better. So I have a 406 in a 3 and a 4 might as well have it in a 5 πdon't ya think?

It really is Imo Glen. It's a thing though. seen more like it in the web and @kjackson showed me a pic of one of his like it. I tried more than one reel on it. Some of the older fly reels had a thicker foot. I put a narrow piece of craft foam under it and it fits fine.

Yum Daryk! What is an Iowegian? Iowa native of Norwegian descent I would guess but Ness can straighten this out. Iweegen is what I heard.

Guess I am lucky or stupid depending on who reads this post. Another J.W. Young and sons reel. This one is the Beaudex. The guy put an eclip with nylon washer behind it to keep on the spool. It's missing a complete release cap assembly. I have one found but it's in England where these reels were made. I've emailed, sent message through website and finally called over across the pond. Finally talked to the guy. Said email him my address and Pic of the reel as two different caps made for the reel. Have not heard anything back from him. Ok the rod is a Fenwick FL84-5. I'm not familiar with the Fenwick markings I like the 4wt line on it and 5 throws well too. Ordered a 406 fly line for it. Double taper. Have not fished with it yet but lots of yard casting. Note 406 fly lines are made for vintage rods tru to weight.

Very, very true. Hey TJM I got another old fly rod and reel π€ͺ

Well done! Yes, there was a bit of static in the background on your question. I stayed out of this one but probably not the next discussion.π

Pellet pigs are something to do if nothing else is available or you are number counting. Nothing wrong with counting but not with pellet pigs. There is a time though when fish become wild such as Taneycomo when they are weaned off pellets they are good targets.

A true bass species or those stinkin brown and green wannabee sunfish bass species? π
