  1. Outstanding giant Ryan! I have had guys tell me about spurs that long before but none could produce a picture. Could you take one for me to show them with a ruler? That way I can show them! Thanks.
  2. Was a team effort in the cleaning. She holds her own! It will be fresh fried turkey and morels today.
  3. 2018 was the last time I was able to get Pat on a bird. Today we tried on her day off. Went behind the house knowing we had one adult Tom and a Jake. Pat is not particular and Jake would work. So there is two places they could roost. Did not put them to bad last night so it was a roll of the dice type choice. We chose wrong. Nothing but we could hear to the North a bird on roost gobbling. Curses foiled again! BUT we were early and decided to go North and see if we could get there before fly down. As fast as two 62 year old folks could travel we stumbled along. Picked a spot and put out the scoot and shoot. Guess scoot and shoot is misleading as there is no scooting involved. Pat backed up under a big cedar and me directly behind parked in front of an oak. Catching our wind a called a bit and two birds answered. Then the we heard one bird fly down and then the second into the open which was the Jake. The old bird came into the open. I called a bit again and both birds perked up and seen the decoy. They were 200 yards plus away. Instantly the adult bird attacked the Jake and tried to run him off as the Jake was trying to get to us. Then it was on who made it to us first. One gobble as the adult trotted towards us. Jake made it first but Pat was concentrating on the big bird then Bang your dead. We both needed this and it was even faster than my hunt Monday morning. 18lbs 7oz. 9 1/2 inch beard and spurs touching the one inch mark on the rule. Felt really blessed more than usual. Sat there another 30 minutes with the sunrise to our back. Life is good in BilletHeadVille.

    What's Cooking?

The wild turkey form Monday morning spent the day on the stove. The legs, thighs, wings and the oysters from the back were browned then spent a good four hours with herbs, spices and roasted garlic braising on a simmer. While broth was still on a simmered the meat was pulled and deboned then returned to the pot. Carrots, celery and caramelized onions put in. As carrots softened the fresh baby spinach then was added. A few more minutes it was bowled up. A good tasting meal for a unseasonable day. Bonus happy wife having this waiting after a days work,
  6. We have three or four sects of them around here. Each do things a bit different. I know for a fact early in the season they order tomatoes from other places then sell as their own. Have a friend whos wife works at a grocery store. the Amish come in and by canned peaches in mass quaintly. they then make jams and jellies to sell at various places. I know others who do grow produce and sell. Sometimes they don't have much to sell but it's good stuff.
  7. Atta boy you made my day! Thanks
  8. Well the dirt survived!
  9. Bet your covered stuff even with the bleak forecast will make it John. Nice looking indoor goodies just awaiting the nicer weather. I wish my lettuce and bok choy was outside under the covers. Our stuff is still in hover mode under the Led grow lights.
  10. Watching home improvement? I prefer that 70s show
  11. Ha ! We most likely had that much too but it is malting fast due to warm ground, Sun is trying to peek out and 39. If it clears up this will be a killing freeze night. Weather service calling for 27, I'm betting colder but hey what does a scientific meteorologist or a wannabee like me know? 😉
  12. You are right many things are going to suffer. Sucks big time.
  13. Shot him on other side of tree row behind this snow mess we are getting. Snow plows are out. I would not of been out there today.
  14. Educated scientific people predicted this.
  15. That is a big spotted gar. I manage to catch a few on the fly rod each year and see lots of spotted gar but never seen one even close to that!
  16. Don't know if I should laugh or like. Remember goose was bad stuff until you tried flying fajatas. :). Guess you are going to have to travel out of your comfort zone (food and travel) and come down and get you a meal.
  17. Well another turkey season is upon us. Kind of sparse round these parts this year. I have been watching two toms and a few hens using a tree row. One side is a wheat field and the other a disked field. Both were corn last year. The birds had been pitching into the wheat but changed as the wheat got deeper. So up early and stumbled in the dark to another tree row East of the main roosting row. Set out my scoot and shoot decoy. Easy to see for the birds landing in the field. As the sky started to lighten up the bird sounded off well on the roost. Then down to the field he came. I called a bit and he perked up. A hen came down next. Here we go I thought he has his girls and will stay with them, NOPE. Called a few more times and he spotted the decoy. Set a course for it and me. Closed the distance of 150 yards pretty quick stopping three times to gobble. Bang your dead. Hot dog! Got my prize and set it across the fence behind me and almost squashed a morel. OK I can deal with this photo op. I carried the bird half way to the truck, went back and repeated with decoy and gear. Repeat again to moms yard. Well lookie here. Looked around more and found others. Have not counted but close to 20 I am guessing. Cleaned and taken care of and just to poke fun at @fishinwrench and @Terrierman I want them to know the legs, thighs, wings and oysters from the back are going to good use Remember waste not want not? It was 20lbs. 15 oz. Inch spurs and 10 inch beard.
  18. Poor Molotov cocktail.
  19. Dave I have caught a half dozen buffalo on the fly. All blind casting looking for other species. I have tried sight fishing for them on shoals but only one thing on their minds then.
  20. Brothers! Thanks Travis.
  21. The girls painted dollar signs on them I bet!
  22. From fishing or repairing boats? Congrats for either one. Good day. By all means the gals should thank a scientist for acetone and paint! Lovely toes
  23. I thanked the scientist for the covid vaccine only. The rest was intended for you, directed at you since you are so happy with your store green picked tomatoes and your smokes that are protecting you from the Covid. All are growing well and satisfying your nicotine urges. Did you read in my post to you for you to thank a scientist ? I think you should sit down Glen and light you up a smoke and do some light reading. Thank a scientist after reading this:
