Let me rephrase JD. Not housefly maggots but horsefly maggots. No meat ,bone or grease. Horsefly maggots feed on decaying plant and leaves. Another question to the OAF garden brain trust. We did put some tomato leaves and trimmings in the barrel. So we know some tomato diseases is passed through the soil especially if you go tomato in back to back years. Di i infect my mulch potentially? BilletHead

I think that is what I have JD. The flies get in and lay eggs and the maggots do essentially what the worms do in yours breaking things down. Tree frogs slip in and feast on the bugs. Speaking of tree frogs. The self wicking tubs have been the best thing for those frogs. They go in and out and have been raising young in them. Little tree frogs all over the garden even in the drought we have been in. The frogs win and so do I for garden pest control. Win ,win to the max. BilletHead

Yes and speaking of compost. I got one of those tumbler compost deals. We have been real good about saving everything from the kitchen and a few clippings all put in there this year. Breaking down right nicely. The moisture is crazy in there though. It drains through the cracks and is beginning to get hard to turn. BilletHead

been martyred on a couple of fishing forums for promoting carp angling wasn't just warsaw lots of places from 4 rivers to stockton TR bull shoals sorry billethead I wish it had been made up, I never share these things or even play the victim card like is so in vogue with progressives these days MoCarp, Did you not say all of this? Please reread your last statement towards us or may correct it me. "I never share these things or even play the victim card" I see seven lines here that you stated. Harry! No one cares you like to carp fish especially me. What I ask is that you please quit jamming it down my throat. Yes i could block you but there are times you post something interesting and I have a thirst to learn. You spew off many things. Some make sense some do not and bring up how to mess with bow fishermen legally? Then you say you have been harassed but cannot back it up? Then say I never play the victim? You sent me a PM once when we had a difference in opinion. You had mentioned we might have a sit down meal. I contemplated that and thought yes this could be done. Now I don't think so. I would liken it to one brick wall talking to another brick wall. Enjoy your sport man, Sincerely The BilletHead

Here is the first year plan Ness, We (Pat) pulled the plants. Tough as there were roots going to the bottom and no doubt into the watering tub. I stirred up the dirt and planted more Lettice seed in each planter. I plan on before the big freeze months drill a hole to let water drain so it will not freeze and break. Then before planting again lift inner tub out, remix in the wheelbarrow, clean out bottom, repack and try another season. So I am hoping the dirt is not spent and will go for more seasons. One thing is watering like I do from the bottom keep and adding occasionally miracle grow it will keep the dirt fertile? I did twice water with this miracle grow mix in each tub this season. What says you Ness? Think this plan will work? Need input, BilletHead

You opened yourself up to a response from MoCarp Wrench but I will respond for him. Like Deven said. You don't see them. They are in stealth mode in camo hiding so the bow fishers don't know where they have baited the spots and know where the big fish are. I think I remember him saying he once posted pictures of his spot and told where it was and then Bow fishers came in and shot his fish. They are out there millions strong. So when you are out on LOZ chasing bass see if you can find them? Oh wait you have not seen any and this proves how stealthy they are or you need glasses, BilletHead

Yes lancer it takes real time to babysit the garden and home is the best place. True that about soil needing time away from a rotation of peppers and tomatoes. Bad thing is with limited space it is hard to do. With no good free soil I can get I have to buy commercial mixes and do what I can with them. This buying can get pretty expensive and way more cheaper to buy at farmers markets , roadside stands etc. This too can surprise you at what you get from there. We buy somethings we do not grow. I do realize this type of place you can get good stuff. One day we stopped at one of the Amish stands near town. We have many of them now in our area. So he had some nice looking cantaloupe. i asked about his process of growing them and how much work was involved. Quickly he answered oh no I did not grow these but buy wholesale at so and so farms for resale. He was honest and when I have asked others the response is skirted around. Early in the year we used to go to one of their big buildings/markets. There would be in the back boxes and boxes of commercially grown tomatoes shipped in from other places. They would be unboxed and brought in for display in bins. Later on in the season some of the bins would be full of misshapen heirloom and typical garden tomatoes that they did grow. We were not exactly lied to but the truth was not exactly told either. I have another friend who's wife worked at a market. The Amish would come in in buggies and purchase cases of canned peaches. These were converted to peach jam and sold. No they did not grow the peaches but did make the jam. I prefer to grow my own when I can so I know the whole story. Same for harvesting my own protein if I can. Not always able but prefer to know exactly what goes into my body, BilletHead

Devan I used to bow fish and did for many years. I still know bow fishermen and have never, never, ever seen harassment for the carp bait fishermen or women for that fact. I think we should have our own @oneshot weigh in on this Has the master of fishing for meals ever been harassed by a Bow fisherman?. Heck I used to shoot fish at Schell Osage crossing the road during flood events. Rod and reel catch and keep would ask if they could have my catch I gladly shared so I would not have to clean what I wanted and not have to bury what I did not in the garden. The only people getting rich over carp is the manufacture of specialized carp equipment and bow fishing equipment including boats. The most important value is time spent afield by anyone chasing carp and the enjoyment for killing or C&R. BilletHead

All this for a carp? Still waiting for something how this happened to you and why it wasn't reported an if so the report. I would venture to say you have a vivid imagination Harry. Nothing wrong with imagination and that is the truth. Fairytales and science fiction come to mind and I like them all. What state did this happen in? Most reports are published out there. You are good at computer skills and copy and paste. I am not. Share more please, BilletHead

Congrats! The best catch ever Jim, BilletHead

You guys are so bad, My turn. Things you can do if you find out there is a rod and reel carp fishing tourney on your lake. Legally do. Tit for tat, Walk around with shiny noisy objects in and out of the fishermen. (note this is a normal thing on Ozarks lakes in the summer) Take all boxes of Wheaties and strawberry jello off of the shelf in stores. Plan a wake boat regatta that weekend Jet boat drag races Have a St Louis radio station put on a flotilla Revoke all anglers from Europe Require the lake a catch and kill for all invasive species. Naturalized or not. Bow fishing tourney at same time. Heck yea it is already baited for them! This is better than the late night top ten list. We are so bad but hey this time we did not start it, BilletHead

This should get MoCarp all fired up ...
BilletHead replied to fishinwrench's topic in General Angling Discussion
You know Wrench that picture and you will be famous. It will soon be on every carp angling board in the Country and I bet Europe too. I would say for posting it there will be a wanted poster for your head also. Watch out you will be plummeted with dough balls shot from high dollar bait slingers (commonly known as a beany flipper or sling shot). I will not tell but if they find out your address the carp masters will set up the camo fishing hide out tents, reclining chairs with fishing poles with buzzers and lights around your house. it may be hard to keep Orion out of the bait bucket, BilletHead -
Duane may have to slow down on the lure painting craftsman trade some. Glad I got mine before the otter craze hit. I can see it now he will hang out his shingle sign "Duckys otter tours get your tickets in the Lilleys Landing office" I have to come clean on something and haters are going to hate. Otters have been here long before we were. They need a place too. Damage yes but not as much as deer, raccoons, coyote, squirrels, HUMANS etc. do annually. If you are effected by the otter consider yourself in the minority. I wish i could find my t-shirt I got when I belonged to the Missouri trappers association. It said "Bring them back to Missouri" . It probably got buried or thrown away by Mrs. BilletHead. I can still remember the first three encounters with them. Now it is like hey look and otter. I have friends who have trapped them and when not caught in a conibear killer type trap they can be real mean. They are just a giant supersized weasel. BilletHead Sign me up for the otter tour Duane!

Keep a good eye on her big daddy! Yes the iodine does real good killing this critters the sacred cow that poops in the water because they run free and you cant eat them. it does not do much for the heavy metals and other pollutants that may lurk in the H20. Did she get to see any funerals where they set sail their loved ones on a raft on the same waters she may of drank to only set fire to the craft corpse and all. I am sure the experience was good for her witnessing other cultures. Will she be attending the shindig on the river this Fall on the Niangua? Could you get her to do a report on here if she doesn't go or the BilletHeads' cant attend? BilletHead -
