God Bless you Patfish, Yes you can beat this and from another survivor of almost 12 years is my bride Pat. BilletHead

Well our friend came back to BilletHeadVille that hunted with us at goosefest. His Bride stayed at home. We were hoping to do a bit better this go around now that we have better weather. Good hunt this AM and hoping to repeat tomorrow. So here is where food is involved. He comes down toting a deer roast. Not a backstrap roast but a top round out of a hindquarter. Wants me to sous vide it. I am thinking this is going to be pretty tough deal. Hindquarter roast out of the super muscular running end of the deer? He said if it is tough we will chop it up and have BBQ sammiches. So last Evening we season the roast and vac seal for the night. After our hunt we put it in the Sous vide at 140 degrees for 6 hours. Cleaned our geese from the hunt and waited for the deer to get done. Did some baked taters and when the Mrs. Got home we pulled the roast and I seared the outside in cast iron. We paced the floor as the roast rested. Finally Pat said the heck with this and she cut off all of us a sample. Juicy and TENDER. I was totally surprised, Oh by the way Brad has one ordered . If I miss my quota please take away meals and not fishing privileges. If I exceed quota double time and more mush for each meal, deal? BilletHead

Looks like bacon even!

Good question Wrench, I don't want to be part of the problem. Never have said anything hateful here. I do banter with my friends and hope we can continue to do this. If not I respect it but will loose many smiles each day from them picking on me. Besides Wrench is such an easy target, BilletHead

Ok I'm in and you can administrate me if needed. Will you actually stock pond or just let us old folks think there will be fish in there? Hybrids a possibility? BilletHead

Sundried tomato bisque , Did use in the ingredients some BilletHead tomato sauce and all the herbs involved were from our garden. The grilled cheese alongside was made with a truffle cheese. I would call this an all American meal but the cheese is from Italy. Good old ice cold whole milk too , BilletHead

Haven't planted a food plot in years, many years. I kill them one on one in their natural environment. I even leave the yard stepping off the two acre ranchette. No gas involved just by to legged manpower. I do use the ATV because I am not the man I used to be getting them home. It wasn't bought for deer hunting. It is a multi tasking vehicle. My deer are getting cheaper and cheaper now that I look at it. Have not used the rifle in a few years either and I will be able to make money on them someday. If I continue killing deer I may go into negative dollars too So much more cheaper than my fly fishing vice. Hey wrench buddy, Where would you be if it wasn't for fishermen spending money on boats and maintenance? What percentage do not even keep fish to eat? I knw there is no catch and release in hunting. BilletHead likes messing with his buddy .

So we have papa mole, mama mole and baby mole going down their mole hole. Papa mole says I smell sorghum . Farther down the hole mama mole says hey, I smell sorghum. They all travel a little farther when baby mole says, cue drum roll. Baby mole says all I smell is molasses BilletHead's dad loved that one and told all his grandkids the story. I miss that man, BilletHead

Says the guy with a red rider bb oh I mean pellet rifle he is shooting dinosaurs with! Do you have the appropriate brontosaurs , t rex , stegosaurs, triceratops, and if shooting flying reptiles a state migratory and federal migratory stamp? No on feeding the family for what I spend deer hunting. We do it on the cheap. BilletHead

You know the old saying? You all are making a mountain out of a mole hill , BilletHead

Oh thanks a bunch Ketchup, Pat and I are still trying to get the Spider-Man undies burn out of our eyes from the flash last Fall. Now this leads so much to the imagination. , BilletHead

Please don't wear spandex or your Spider-Man undies! Also have daughter take pictures of instructor untying you from the knot you get yourself into, BilletHead

Today was the day to cook up cottontail rabbit, So it was going to be braised rabbit with onions and garlic. Browned two bunnies and set them aside, Then onions browned and added garlic cloves. A head worth of garlic. Smelled good, Nestled the rabbit pieces in the onion and garlic. Added some good cider vinegar and enough water to half submerge the rabbit. Covered to simmer on stovetop for two hours. Checked for doneness. Falling off the bone tender. Added some peas! Plated up, Pat sliced some cabbage and topped it with some lemon sour cream dill dressing she made. Good slaw and tasty bunny! BilletHead

I hate ice, Really , really don't like it. Makes things hard.. This brings us to todays hunt. Not the place where we broke ice yesterday. Birds have been using this place even froze solid. Seen some there yesterday. Smaller pond. Light in the Eastern sky as we got there, no hurry as geese were not in air first thing. Got set up and as Mrs. BilletHead was adding grass to the blinds I broke a small hole next to the bank to put four floaters in. The rest were full bodies on the shore stringing into the field, Right as we set down in the layout blinds we ban to see ducks, lots of ducks and I was surprised. Mainly big flocks up high and traveling south into the strong wind. Four mallards flew over and gave us a look. I called and they turned and began to work. Five passes and a final cup and down they came and Pat shot a drake. Bonus as I had no idea we would have ducks today and landing on an ice hole? Go figure. A bit later geese began to fill the air from two directions. We had set up a bit offset between two large roost lakes. First group to see us there was no hesitation it was wings set all the way in a nice long glide right in front of us. We let them have it two dead on the ice with a third in a sail over the field to finally drop dead and hit the ground. AS the Mrs. did the long distance retrieve I grabbed the rod and reel to work on the two on the ice. I got mine and she got the other. Three down half way there. A bit later more birds coming and the Mrs. got another. Retrieved two more to go. Really windy by now and the remaining ice was getting pretty punky. A pair came by and circled and set up. I told Pat I would take the lead bird and she would take the other. In the came and we both connected. My worst fear happened. When hitting the ice they both broke through. No matter how hard I tried The topwater plug would not pull the birds onto the ice to be pulled out. Here is where desperation came in. Loaded everything up to drive home and get the kayak. Plans were made on the way home on how to do this. What would we need? Kayak, paddle, rope, life jacket and a careful approach. Home and kayak loaded the drive back. Back at the driveway unloaded the ATV again and tied the kayak behind to be pulled back to pond. I asked Pat if she wanted to ride back there in kayak? Are you crazy she said you will hit and throw cow crap on me on purpose . So back at the pond we got things ready including a rope on back end of kayak. I told her if I couldn't get turned around you will have to pull me backwards. I got inside the yak and proceeded to crunch ice with the paddle. Rock the kayak to crack ice and paddle forward and repeat. All the way to the middle of the two birds, Picked up my bird first and what do you do? You look for a band What did I find? . Grabbed other bird and As I was trying to turn about face I heard the Mrs. say I got this and in reverse I went at high speed right to her feet. Oh did I have a band? Well yes I did! Back to the truck and loaded up for home again. Got everything cleaned then a meal started reported band through the data base. Female banded on 7-30-2013. Hatched in 2012 or earlier. Banded in Churchill Manitoba. Good day with the best of company. BilletHead

Which native cutt do you want John? I will give you three states to choose from ...... BilletHead

Yes I have heard you speak of Penzys. It was kind of neat working up my curry blend today. We have a spice and herb bible. It has fourteen different curry blends in it that you can make. All have listings on which they can be used. BilletHead

That would be really neat Mitch. I looked into curing meats and sausages and salami. You can get different curing chambers but high dollar for low tec BilletHeadVille. Many plans out there for DYI using a fridge and adding a humidifier and fan. Controls available to wire in. On the backburner for now but not out of mind. Someday maybe. I was hooked when I did duck prosciutto hanging it in my shop. BilletHead

Today, Bobotie. Pronounced boBOtie. One of the national dishes of South Africa. Essentially curry meatloaf casserole with baked egg. A curry-like. sweet, sour and savory. A one pot meal but the curry part in the recipe is not blazing hot. It is a mild curry of which we could not find but assembled from various spices. Pretty easy to make and really good. Had plain white rice with it but could see the meat mixture in a folded piece of flatbread or tortilla, BilletHead

Just hope it will pay off. Hoping the wind will do the rest, Got a pretty nice hole open. Hopefully next week this place will pay off, BilletHead
