  1. Big thing is how much do you want to spend? The Sage Bass II rod/line/case combos are some sweet rods, but you're at 550 without a reel. Add a reel to it and you can look at another 50-200 bucks pending on your brand and what kind of quality you want. I have a Sage Bass I rod with an Allen Fly Fishing Trout 2 reel, it casts the big wind resistant flies extremely well plus it looks sweet.
  2. I was wanting to hit up that section to see if I could find some common or gras carp but sounds like the bighead are all thats there. Bummer.
  3. If you fish around the outlet of that marina just south of the new bridge they are building across the river with old 141 they are all over that place of the river. my dad catches em like mad on roadrunners down there in his kayak
  4. I seen one about 20 pounds come out of the Meremec in Valley Park many years ago. People just dump em in there, you can buy one at petsmart for under 5 bucks.
  5. Just now starting on the carp? ive been catching em on the fly since march now. I need to go chase some pigs though, i have some ideas on where I may find them
  6. Some of them they do. I bought heart of the Driftless from this years film for Reverb, its a good flick.
  7. You sure about that? ive heard this very same story told many of many times in slightly different fashions. sometimes its the neighbors dog who digs it up, some times its in the street etc etc. Always ends up washed and back in the cage.
  8. Anyone seen any decent sized carp crusing around up there yet?
  9. The other thing is casting a big heavy rod with huge chicken flies on the end of it for many hours really takes it out on your shoulder.
  10. i thrown musky flies with an 8wt and it was struggling with them. they came in at about 8-10" long and they could stand to be bigger. i bought an 11wt for some od reason recently so i think im going to go after them again with that rod and a boat and some big flies. they seem like fun.
  11. Welcome to the dark side. I've been catching them like mad this year on the fly, up to 7 already.
  12. I decided yesterday that I am good at fly fishing in streams, creeks and rivers, but when it comes to bass fishing in lakes I am awful at it. I was at a lake yesterday and saw many fish right in the shallows staring at something close to the bank. they were interested in eating, but didnt really look at much i put in front of them. whats a good fly for convincing them or when they see it they just have to eat it to remove it from sight? these were big fish in the shallows. 16-18" or more
  13. Yeah im going to go with corn snake on this one.
  14. I will second this. I bought a 9' 8wt about a month ago from Hargrove's and its a wonderful rod. i have broke it in on a couple of big carp already this year too and Im very pleased with its big fish fighting ability ( multiple 26" carp ). Its not nearly as beastly as the TCX rod I have from them but it sure will throw some line. For the price , $255 for 9ft 4 piece, its a great rod. I am a firm believer of the Sage rods now. Tell you what, if Cabelas still has it in the bargin cave, go buy the Sage Freshwater line they are clearancing out for 29 bucks. I have some on mine and its will shoot 50-60ft of line out no problem. I almost wish I would have gone to the 9wt instead of the 8 but oh well, a 10 will be my next rod. What reel did you buy? I have a Sage 1680 and the only thing I dont like about it with this rod is that the reel is black and the reel seat is a nice pretty titanium anodized finish, so the reel is going to go off to my paint booth and get a silver finish to better match.
  15. I was reallly tempted to go try that creek out this weekend. I stayed at my local stomping grounds and caught a bunch of carp instead. I need to get out there soon though
  16. darn you......maybe another time. I need to catch some of those this year.
  17. Good to hear. I was thinking about hitting the upper area of that creek this weekend since it sounds like Femme Osage is a bust now.
  18. That looks like the baby warn you get at walmart. i use it for tying this big bass minnow patterns, might have to make a worm or two though
  19. Friends of mine placed 3rd in the N/A class with his multi-color legacy.
  20. 8wt is sold!!
  21. Im quiet the fan of my Simms Freestone boots with the Stream Tread vibram. They are very comfortable, freakishly light and pretty darn grippy. I have had them all over the place and really the only time they feel slippery is on super flat rock covered in that super slimmy algea, which even the felt can struggle with that stuff
  22. yeah its just too bad the trout in it are stupid and only eat pellets. BUUUTTT I think im going to be donating them to the cabela's aquarium this weekend. they have gotten too big and are kinda boring now.
  23. Bump. I sold the recurve and dropped prices on the other stuff.
  24. More or less like this currently.
  25. Would ya take a trade on a compound bow?
