  1. I'm more of a thin mint guy
  2. You did great, only missed one. The middle is a Wordens Fatfish
  3. I figured TrophyFshr would get it
  4. OK, 25 Man points if you can name these left to right?!?!?!?!?!?
  5. Thanks for repeating what I just said
  6. I understand the MDC's priorities have to be based on what's best for the state as a whole. I happen to know ( based on recent phone conversations with the MDC) that illegal gigging is way down the priority list. If someone poached ten big whitetail bucks there would be hell to pay. 100 gigged 20" smallmouth is small potatoes and not worthy of action.
  7. The average income in DC is the highest in the United States. Both political parties have individuals whos relatives are lobbyists making several hundred thousand per year. This is a huge conflict of interest, no matter which side you're on. Great gig if you can get it!
  8. There's a Woody Guthrie song called Tom Joad, about the Grapes of Wrath character. One of the lines is "everybody might be just one big soul, well it looks thata way to me". This is always what I think about when I look into the eyes of a pet, especially a dog. I can see the soul of all my former companions when i look into any random dogs eyes...and get teary eyed. Maybe it doesn't make sense but I'm thinking you can see Heddy again one day through the eyes of another cat. Sorry for your loss
  9. Well, I've never cared what anyone says about my religion. It's my deal not anyone else's and although I don't believe the bible verbatim, I do believe in the big picture. What cracks me up is the fact that some believe God cares about who wins the Super Bowl or the World Series! All I know is I want to see my loved ones again some day. And yes, thank God for the rain!
  10. True True! When the water is low, the riffle above the spring is scary. You better have your stuff together for that one. I swear you have a path about 6-8 ft wide to go thru!
  11. On the Winnipeg river in western Ontario we used to fish a lake in the river chain that had a reef that for some reasons the pelicans gathered day after day. When you got with a quarter mile you could smell it. The rocks on the reef were disgusting. Sometimes after shore lunch all the gulls and pelicans would wait for us to leave and devour the leftovers. They would patiently wait about 30-40 yards away like a scene from the Hitchcock movie.
  12. There are usually a few spots on any river that will white knuckle you.... if you're not afraid, you probably shouldn't be using a jet boat. The key is slowing down just enough to still remain on plane with a shallow draft so if you do hit a rock, it's not a disaster. I like to sit up higher to get more of a birds eye view so it's easier to spot rocks and logs. The worst combination is going downstream with the sun in your face because of the reflection of waves as they pass over the rocks in a riffle. It's just harder in that case to see the best route.
  13. Wow, what a boat! Can't wait to see it!
  14. Gotta check it out! We lost a congressional medal winner Ed Freeman the other day.
  15. Frosty loves to pitch hair jigs! I know you don't live too far Gavin!
  16. A spinning rod has always been my go to up till now. It's really just a personal preference, I just prefer the accuracy of a baitcaster over a spinning rod.
  17. The upper Mississippi is hard to beat for big smallies, 70 miles north of Minneapolis.
  18. My first step is to try and use a commercially available rod. I will use this new one Al picked up at the Classic before I try to start building a rod from scratch. I feel I would be in way over my head. Thanks for the advice! JoeD- Yes a reel plays an important part. I pretty much always splurg on a good reel for my baitcasters. I tend to like shimano the best, like the bantam Curado.
  19. Thanks Al for all your help! I can't wait to try it! You know it's funny how picky im getting with my fishing equipment and tackle. Ten years ago, I would have adjusted my casting with the stiffer rod and just lived with it. I guess my fishing time is more precious to me now and can't stand to have to put up with something I'm not quite pleased with. I have a rod for a 5/16 to 3/8 oz jig, and one for flipping and pitching bigger jigs. I agree it is hard to find shorter rods these days. But I was caught up in the longer rod craze myself and learned the hard way.
  20. Wow, a custom rod by G Loomis, that would be way cool! as long as its not too much to spend. You know what to ask him to make!. The Let me know what the prices are! Thank you for the rod research!
  21. Couldn't have said it better myself, I'm pretty much the same way, love putting people on fish
  22. I prefer to fish with someone else. But I always feel like I'm trying to please them by allowing them to fish the holes first, so I usually back my boat into a hole. As far as fishing, I'm much more effective fishing alone.
  23. Thanks so much for the info
  24. You're lucky you're not in Chicago and have to deal at McCormick place convention and the corrupt riggers union. You can't touch any of your own equipment...has to be brought in and set up by them. The only way to get your equipment out when the show is over is bribe them and magically your equipment gets out on time. Anyway, sell a bunch of stuff and when browsing around see if you can find the small jig rod we want.......and please buy 3
