  1. The worst I ever had was with Rick Lapoint, a Table Rock guide...we were fishing a Skeeter only tourney together in '03 in the Detroit River. We're were heading back to the weigh in going under the Ambassador bridge and it was very windy. The wind, combined with the rollers from the Freighters, combined with the reverb effect of the sea walls and current, was almost too much to bear. For the 45 minute buzz back to the ramp, I had one hand on the handle and one hand on my crotch trying to protect the boys. We were slamming so hard I thought the hull would collapse.
  2. Meat and Taters, all we need. No "deep" gay music with GoPro theatrics ??
  3. So sorry to hear this, I'll say a prayer
  4. I know when I use a spinning reel, I notice there is forearm pain the next day. I'm thinking the guys who use a Ned a lot might benefit from a lighter action rod to help load the bait with less strain on the forearm. I guess your Nanofil will help counteract the lightness of the rod.
  5. Hoglaw, I get tennis elbow every once in a while, but I don't have it now. I wonder if you can use it for preventative maintenance?
  6. Yeah, that would be fun to watch Dion ledge fishing with a spinning rod?

    What's Cooking?

I remember that! When they were singing "Deck the halls!" The Hot Pot consists of a variety of meats...usually Beef, Pork, and Lamb, thinly sliced, also Shrimp, shrimp or fish "balls". Then mushrooms of all types, enoki, button, etc. Tofu, lettuce, all types of veggies. There are typically 2 types of water simmering, one with spicy flavoring, one with mild seasoning. So at the beginning, you just have a couple of sets of "community" chop sticks and put any of the ingredients in one of the vats of water. After a couple of minutes, you have a wire frame little spoon that you take the cooked items out and place it in your plate. Last and best step is dipping the cooked items in your own personal dipping sauce. The sauce is usually made by taking a ton of fresh garlic mashed and diced very fine, adding sesame oil and a little salt, with fresh herbs. They also have a peanut oil based sauce, I usually mix the two sauces together. The heat hot, combined with the spicy hot, is best accompanied with cold beer! I usually have to be carried away from the table!!?????

This was my non-traditional Christmas meal. A Chinese Hot Pot!
  11. Wow,I once remember seeing logs stuck to the bottom of the bridge at Birds Nest
  12. If you buy them off of EBay, you can find some deals.....I bought the cheaper SH1-SH model for like $65-$70. Heck of a reel for the price....I have 5 now
  13. Marty, those pics take me back to the 90's when I was a waterfowl freak. I got out the call lanyard the other day and gave a few calls....it's like riding a bike, once you learn, you never forget it. It seemed like I had never stopped hunting. My favorite memory of goose hunting was at Truman lake....we were hunting in extreme fog and pulled away from the boat ramp. You couldn't see past 15-20 yards, due to the fog, so we puttered as slow as possible to where we thought we were going. This was obviously before GPS was convenient and affordable. After one hour and much deliberation, we shined our light and saw something. It was our truck and trailer in the parking lot!!!! Ha ha. We had made a complete circle!! Thd second attempt proved much better, we found our spot on the lake, which was a semi submerged fence line with trees. We set up the blind and decoys and waited. At daylight we heard a huge flock of geese coming from very far away, we could hear others trying to call the flock, but to no avail. They kept getting closer and closer, when they finally broke thru the fog, they were so close they already had their landing gear down. There were 4 of us in the boat and it sounded like WWIII. They were so close that one goose actually bounced off the deck of our boat when it was shot. The dog just reached down and picked it up without ever swimming. A couple of others were crashing thru the tree our boat was tied to, broken branches were falling in the boat. After things settled, we all silently looked at each other in disbelief. Then we hooted and hollered! I can just imagine what other boats were thinking....."Those lucky #%*%%#%**^!"
  14. I think so, I don't think the fish move too much if they have what they want in that spot
  15. Think that would be the bomb for bluegill

    What's Cooking?

So when grilling steaks, I have gone full circle on methods. I have finally convinced myself of 4 things...... 1. Let meat set out of the refrigerator for 3 hours to get to room temperature before grilling. 2. Season meat with Salt and pepper only, 1 hour ahead of grilling time for each inch of steak thickness. 3. This one will probably loose a few........flip steaks every minute by the clock, until they're done. 4. Use a charcoal grill when possible.
  18. The Grinch who fished the Ned
  19. Wow, that is incredible! You da Man!!!!!!!!!
  20. Give a thread enough rope and it will eventually hang itself....... FWIW, I always really love Norm's reports! Ham, I really don't think anyone is implying that Norm is fabricating his story.....we just like pictures plain and simple.
  21. Well, when your sitting in someone else's boat, who happens to be fishing the Ned, your choices are limited.
  22. From 5-10 ft away, when you watch a minnow, or a group of minnows, you never see their tail moving.....it just looks like they have mysteriously panned themselves, or darted from one location to another. You don't see an exaggerated tail movement, you don't see any wobble. That's the beauty of a Ned. It perfectly imitates that. But it also combines this movement with a more realistic profile than a slider worm or fish Doctor type worm. Plus, it doesn't tickle their lateral line at all, so they can't get a bad memory of the sound. I'm thinking the less shaking you do, the better. If you notice the fish getting wild over exaggerated movement, you're better off fishing another lure.
  23. I know you can use Stren clear blue fluorescent and a black light and you can see the line....it looks like 1/4" rope above the surface.
  24. You fish more at night than any other fisherman I know.....why do you do it? Do you feel you can catch more fish at night most of the time?
  25. Maybe the sonar is picking up Quillbacks Big M burger stand under 50 FOW!?
