flytyer57 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 $30???? You're getting ripped. My dad pays $15. You dads get's the SENIOR CITIZEN discount. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
exiledguide Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I am of the opinion that you have a right to charge whatever you want. I wish more landowners would make their places available. Would be happy to pay the going rate. This is the first time in probably 30 years that I don't own any rural land or lake development property just to have access to fishing. Your rates seem to be very reasonable. Does anyone else have private access available on any of the Ozark streams?
Chief Grey Bear Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 You dads get's the SENIOR CITIZEN discount. Yeah, he is 72. And can still paddle a canoe with the best of them. I hope I can say the same when I am his age. Does anyone else have private access available on any of the Ozark streams? As a matter of fact I do. ollie Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Ditto with Chief on that one. Then again I was raised around here and lived most of my life in SW MO so yeah I know a few people. Yes, we have places on the Meramec and the Big River....we are very lucky!!! and cherish them greatly.
Al Agnew Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Al, I believe the Little Niangua to be the "truest" thing to an Ozark river closest to KC than the Big Niangua. Not by far albeit... Have you floated it? And also... the Pomme De Terre, Sac, and (whoops! Am I violating any principles here?) OK... named a few Ozark "fringe" streams. Maybe the Little Niangua is that also, but I don't believe that. There are plenty of streams in the western part of the state as most of you know that feed the big reservoirs. Do some research and maybe you'll find a brand new, unused, gem of a spot. KC Yeah, I know about those others, and you're right, the Little Niangua is definitely a pretty classic Ozark stream. Difference is that it is smaller, often with barely enough water to float, so it doesn't lend itself to the kind of concentrated rental use you see on the Niangua. The Sac and Pomme de Terre are limited in that the reservoirs on them have taken out much of their best water and altered the characteristics downstream to where they aren't the kind of streams the canoe rental crowds prefer.
Greg Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 You know, I was re-reading this post, and I thought to myself "holy crap, I sound like a mean-spirited grumpy old man." So I apologize. That post was over the top, and I can see that within about five minutes of writing it. I believe what I believe, but there's no reason for a post to be as negative and accusatory as this one a topic like this. You know I didn't find this mean spirited either. Unfortunately it is truthful. And it's the reason I don't do more floating in MO. The last time I and my sons floated the north fork of the white (about a year ago) we saw some truly unfortunate things. I'm not a prude by any means and the bikinis certainly don't bother me (or my sons). But I draw the line at some things. Like falling down drunks screaming obscenities. The worst was a drunk mother and father verbally abusing their young son. It was truly sickening what they were calling him. I practically had to hold my older son back. But the father looked like the type that would have a concealed gun or knife so we held our tongues and went on.... Now I'm through with my rant. Not all floats are like that one but unfortunately a fair number of them are particularly on the popular streams. Sorry I know this is kind of off topic. I do agree that the original poster should be able to charge what he wants. I would gladly pay the $10.
