Wondering what you guys think about the micro guide craze. Seems all rod makers are offering micro guide models now and was wondering if you guys/gals think they really make a difference or are they just hype to "catch" more fisherman like many products. Pro's and con's? Experiences? Opinions? Lovem? Hatem? Etc.

Guess there fine if your fishing in the summer time, but I'd imagine they would ice up allot quicker than bigger guides.

Made one last winter. I only used it a couple months before I turned it into a pool cue by letting a rod box lid slam on it. I loved it. I thought it threw easier and farther, although I could not test this as I did not make an identical regular rod. It fought fish well. I have a micro guide rod on my bench, half finished.

BTW, if it is cold enough to freeze the water on your guides, it's time to go home.

I have two Falcon Cara Finesse jig rods. One has micro guides and one has standard guides. I can't tell any difference in them. I have really started to hate split grip handles though.

split grip rods aren't very good due to balance.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

I'm with you guys on the split grips ... awkward and no good for ham-handed folks like me.

Champ, pro's Lightweight... Con's too much line drag with the small guides, and they don't seem to hold up as well!!! Don't use them if you like to throw blades or cranks.. :)

Freeze up is my concern with anything smaller than Concepts, those are bad enough. Split grip rods really need to be custom built to each anglers specs and size. Most of the commercially available ones are way too big, although the higher end St Croix's are more like the custom jobs.

Brett, Bass Pro has their Mico Guide line on sale. I will be checking them out as well.. I was JUST thinking about a new 7 footer. You can never have too many rods eh ? I don't think you can go wrong for less than $100 ...
