The same as many, many others. We live in a country chock-full of bozos.

That was weird on so many levels...the guy didn't know the gun fell out of his pocket, the gun fired as it hit the ground, the victim didn't know he had been shot at first.

I guess Wrench was right; shot at a church function!

I can't believe no one heard the shot. They thought it was a balloon popping? Really?

That's the exact kind of story that makes the case...maybe we shouldn't have an army of civilians with barely double-digit IQs toting around loaded weapons.

Thats why I use a glock,,, toss it throw it drop it and it doesnt go bang. put it in water runs sand over it and drag it through the mud and nothing but pick it up and pull thee trigger and it goes bang every time... I wish my 1911 was that reliable even my 686 cant take that abuse.

Why would you treat a firearn in that manner in the first place? I personally would not do that to my hammer if I could avoid it. And I would check for mud in the barrel if I dropped a gun in it before pulling the trigger.

Most modern firearms since the 80's have been designed with a hammer block to prevent discharge when dropped, an excellent safety feature to check for when purchasing a handgun.

Such an efficient "weapon" too! That POS is worthless at anything other than point blank range. You ain't gonna be a hero and save the day with a derringer, you'd be better off with a sling shot.

Like I.said, I've sat at the range and observed some of these CCW permit grads, watched them fumble around loading their guns (as if it was a rubics cube) and more trigger slapping, flinching, and swing throughs than I ever care to witness. I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who has spent time at a shooting range and noticed this.

I shoot on the farm for the most part. When I do make it to the MDC Range, I sit and wait till the idiots clear off of the pistol range section to shoot.

Handguns are somethng that most have a hard time to figure out. Rifles and Shotguns are a breeze for most. Proper stance and handling with handguns are different. Back when I started with handguns, it was a weaver stance and one eye closed. Now days, you lean into a handgun and keep both eyes open. And most go for automatics now, which was a luxury cadillac back in the day.. Instead of shot placement, its how fast can you empty the mag. Learning on a single action revolver was more simple and accurate.

As for the CCW grads, the selection of instructors for the permit process can vary. Locally, we have deputy sheriff with law enforcement credentials, marksmanship trained. And we have joe blows that teach the course for an extra buck and spit them out with little training. The teacher makes a lot of difference in the finished product. And most students are new to handguns and don't shoot them after qualifing for the course. At least the ones at the range are trying.

I don't have the ability to put I link on this message but this morning there is an article in the St louis post disgrace that makes wrench's argument. This bozo had no control of his weapon.

Which is the same as someone not having control over their car, knife, emotions, life, anger, airplane (if they pilot), boat,...ect...You can't eliminate the bozo factor.

Only difference is we need cars and airplanes, the rest is just toughguy stuff.

And how would you suggest we handle this? Legislation? Make people pass an IQ test? Make every gun owner appear before a comity that will decide if they are "fit" to carry?

The only case this story makes is...yes indeed some people are stupid.
