Senator Bubba can propose anything he wants....but the Missouri legislature doesnt have the authority to enact game laws. Only the conservation commission can do that. Wonder if Senator Bubba is the same one that proposed legislation to legalize catfish noodling?

It just had to go political....ugh

I sent my email too.

Given the fact that it's a state senate bill proposal, I'd argue it started off political. :)

Well sure...My point is it is not a party dividing type issue like taxes or healthcare. The guy proposing the bill is an idiot because he is an idiot...not because he is a rebublican. Well maybe....actually all policticians are idiots. :)

Every issue is a party dividing issue these days.

It's election year again, and as much as I hear the "all politicians are idiots" and "they're all the same" mantras (which is true to an extent), there ARE some distinct differences between the two parties. I think it's important to point out and remember who is concerned with conservation and who isn't, and I have to assume that my fellow sportsmen and outdoorsmen would agree. Another mantra: "Elections don't matter." Well, sometimes it feels that way, but the fact is that elections DO have some real world consequences...and this bill is a case in point.

Maybe Gavin and SB are right, but it's still a good reminder of what kind of person I don't want sitting in office, proposing legislation, and casting votes on "my behalf."

I do not see a reason to allow the killing of a animal that has limited numbers in the state to be shot on sight! Or for that matter any law allowing for shooting of any animal with a very small population. If someone had said Bear or Dear people would go insane as they have a hunting season for a reason. We need management practices for these animals no diffrent then any other animal in the state.

I see this as a knee jerk reaction based on fear! Yes if the animals threatening you or destroying your farm animals then yes I can understand shooting it at that point. But this law would give people carblanche to shoot on site and that I am firmly against as i see people going out purely to do it and then claim self defence.

Not the same senator who initiated all the handfishing bills, but he's in the same philosophical camp. Very interested in the state's agriculture sector, not particularly interested in conservation/resource stewardship, and would like to have MDC under their thumb. The legislation has absolutely nothing to do with mountain lions, or protecting Missourians, for that matter. It's just another attempt to usurp MDC's authority, to have our state's resources managed by politicians as opposed to scientists.

There's a lot of this sort of thing floating around this year, hopefully none of it gets any stream. But it is worth keeping an eye on...
